Competition time...yet again..still N/A only! :@
Yes, I understand that one aspect of the grand prize is a flight, but:
1. This is not material to what I posted. It was claimed that MMORPG.com was the source of the restriction, and what I said was that I think it's unlikely. You seem to agree with me on that. 2. The ten runner up prizes are purely VIP time. I'm sure most people would understand the first prize being limited to the US due to cost, if the other prizes were open to everyone to win. (Note that it's possible that MMORPG.com does prevent giving different prizes to different areas. Still, considering that even non-MMORPG.com CoH competitions are usually limited to the US, I'd say it's more likely that MMORPG.com isn't the reason for the limitation.) |
I don't really care one way or the other about the competition but i will say this.
I'm sure most of you will agree that to gain and more importantly to keep it's customer base a business will spend part of it's income from them. So why do so many of you seem to think that it is going beyond the call of duty for a company to do the same for it's international customers? They are happy to take a not inconsiderable amount of money from us surely we should expect some of that to be spent on looking after us as customers the same as they do for their US based customers? So what if the plane ticket is international rather than domestic. I assure you the income from their international customers will cover the extra cost.
Oh and as to the comments made about this game being made by Americans for Americans what a load of tosh. Made "by" american's yes but I guarrentee you it was always intended for an international audience. Why else allow for other languages within the code?
Two things I've been very saddened to see on these forums of late. One is the willingness of the company to take our coin and it's unwillingness to part with any of it to treat us as valued customers (be it in prizes or in wages to carry out work out of normal business hours.) The second is the distinct lack of empathy from our cousin US players. The number of "live with it" posts I have read has been very disheartening.
I am waiting for the EU only competition where we can win VIP Game Time.

I'm in Poland, and I've not really noticed much downside to being an EU player, tbh. One afternoon last week I logged in to find i had to wait an hour for maintenence to end, but that's about it. When there's extended maintenece, I don't think 'Oh, those sneaky Americans aren't experiencing this!', since people play at all hours, I know. I'm sure there are night workers out there who are used to playing from 3-6am in the States who are sometimes 'aaargh, sderver maint!'. The servers are down for the same amount of time for everyone.
I personally don't need to enter the ciompetitions either.

MArcs:
The Echo, Arc ID 1688 (5mish, easy, drama)
The Audition, Arc ID 221240 (6 mish, complex mech, comedy)
Storming Citadel, Arc ID 379488 (lowbie, 1mish, 10-min timed)
It doesn't really bother me either, although the idea of the competition itself is somewhat tempting (post the best pics of your characters).
What they should do is allow EU people to enter, give them the 5 years Subcription if they win and rather than flying the EU person in allow them to nominate another Redname whom Posi will give the haircut too.

Uhh isn't what you quoted basically Zwill saying that in this case it IS MMORPG stipulating the restriction? Or am I just reading too much into what Zwill state?
|
That doesn't preclude the possibility that there's a specific MMORPG.com internal regulation which prevents this particular contest from being offered internationally, just that MMORPG.com doesn't as a rule preclude international contests (or specifically international contests with NCsoft participating), which could have been implied by what Zwill said. Since some CoH competitions on CoH's own site have been limited to North America only, I'm inclined to believe that Zwill's statement has been a general observation rather than specific to this case, and it's entirely possible that it's an NCsoft decision based on the nature of the grand prize.
I know what you mean. I never cared about the downtimes, and to me not being able to enter this competition just means I don't have to make an effort. I wouldn't mind a free year of VIP, but what are the chances anyway? However I'm still sure many people here will think I'm complaining, even though I'm just pointing out some facts, and trying to do it in a manner that doesn't insult anyone.
Also, MMORPG.com is currently offering a free 30 day jetpack code to both US and EU players, which means that NCsoft can give non-US players something via that site.
It's entirely possible that there are MMORPG.com regulations which indirectly make it impossible for NCsoft to offer the prize internationally, but it would still be something related to NCsoft itself, considering that other companies can and do offer prizes to the entire MMORPG.com readership.
