The Player Event Resource Committee would like to thank all of the players who submitted an entry to compete in Design Challenge - Bases on a Budget! We were extremely pleased to receive 42 entries. Rather than eliminating two players, we felt it best to extend two of the categories to eleven for maximum competition. It was extremely enjoyable to read the short essays on why people wanted to enter and view the gorgeous base screen shots that many players submitted. There are many passionate Base Builders and it will be amazing to see what can be done on a small budget!

Contestants were asked to rank their preference of category they would like to compete it, PERC is very pleased to say that every contestant will be given their first choice to build!

Yes ... you're reading that right. After paying for Base Plot (free), Rooms (150k) and a Start Up unit and a Main Control unit (75k!) ... I had (only) 75k Prestige left to decorate with in a pair of 2x2 rooms and one 3x3 room. I could have made things look a lot better with another 100k Prestige to burn, but that's always the way it goes. As it was, I had to ... economize a bit ... just in order to make things look presentable, rather than unfinished.

This also means that I've got 705 placed Items (including the Entrance) in my base submission for this contest. The work for doing all of this took approximately 5 hours.

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

Just want to make sure that you are using the start up unit and control unit as decorative items because functionality is not going to be scored. If you are, then wow, can't believe if you finished so fast! If you were not using them just for decoration, maybe you can sell them to have more prestige to spend

Yes, I am using those items for ... ambiance. Functionality has nothing to do with it, because there's nothing to "spend" the Control on, actually. I *really* just wanted the Main Control item, because the room it goes in is ... meh ... without it. And once I'd decided to put it in, I then had to figure out how to "support" it in terms of Power Generation, and with the budget we were given there was really only one option left. So yeah ... when you tour my base, have your sound turned on. It makes a difference.

Btw, Madame Pistacio, feel free to tour PERC Base 23 on Liberty anytime, since I'm pretty much "done" with modifications to it. If you want me to give you (and your entourage) a guided tour, we can set up a time for that.

Tours will be conducted after the contest ends on November 15th. So you have plenty of time if you decide to add/change anything.

I am soooo not done. I have much work to do <on one room> and now I'm starting to fret that 300k isn't going to be enough for my ambitions...

I'm glad this contest goes until Nov. 15, because I'm meticulously designing my base. I'm actually running into the concern of trying to spend all of my points, but it'll work.

I'm more worried about the new base features on Beta, I'm honestly hoping that doesn't come out until after this contest, because it'd cause all of us to re-do our bases with the new functionality!

There is certainly no penalty for coming in UNDER budget And I agree with you about 21.5!
