  1. I too want to say a huge THANK YOU to MP and the PERC members for doing this for us, and all the hard work that went into it. All the members of the Baser Community that I have spoken with really appreciate the time and effort you guys put into hosting things like this for us.

I also want to take this chance to tell some of the people in the contest that we don't normally talk to, to please join the BaseBuildersInc. (period included in the name) chat channel in game. We want to get to know you!

Many of us Base Builders, from those just starting out to old time vets, chat there nightly, and swap tips, tours, and the occasional silly story or joke. It is a great place to arrange tours of other Baser's works for inspiration, or to find someone wanting to visit your latest creation.

The channel members are also very helpful and informative, so if you ever have any questions on how to do something, or just want an idea or two for your next room, it is a great place to go.

Several of us in the channel are planning to arrange tours of each other's contest bases, once the contest is over of course, so please, anyone in the contest, or anyone reading this that isn't but would like to take a tour or just chat base stuff, please join the channel and say "Hello!"

    Everyone is invited and welcome!

It is an open channel that doesn't require an invite to join. Just search for BaseBuildersInc. under ths Channel Search menu option, and join our Baser Community.

Hope to see you all there!

A generous offer that I hope I may take you up on at a later date. I buy and make a LOT of bases, and am not afraid to burn inf. I have burned a few bil to start a fresh base before, and will likely do so again.

However, it is hard to pass up an offer of a base with 65 mil prest in it being offered for sale for 2 bil inf. As fun as it can be to burn away inf, it is hard to blink twice at an offer like that.

Now, if only we could rename SGs...

I could buy 2 or 3 rename tokens a week and still never catch up with the amount I would need...

I almost want to thank the devs for NOT having it as a feature. By not being available, I am staying out of the poorhouse.

    Thanks in advance.
I'm not a part of P.E.R.C., but I have seen the way that they do things. They seem very fair at picking contestants. I believe that they like to balance things out where possible and try to give rookies, moderates and pro builders an equal chance at entering the contest. If they get too many entrants, they will likely pick randomly from each category.

I think the requests for pix is to help gauge what category you might fall into. If they state up front that no experience is required, then you can be sure that rookies can safely enter and can well be expected to have the same sort of chance at getting in that a pro would.

From what I have seen in the past, P.E.R.C runs things clean and fairly, and doesn't simply pick the best entrants they get. Everyone has a shot.

This of course is all just my observation. Someone from P.E.R.C. will hopefully clarify the point soon. In the meantime, don't hesitate to enter out of fear you may not be good enough or because you don't have pix to show.

I entered the contest, and I didn't attach pix. I'm not worried that this will hurt my chances at all. I think (hope) I have just as good a shot at getting picked as you or anyone else does.

    Cannons?

I sort of suspected it was YOU, but couldn't be 100% sure, so I figured I would still try to help a fellow Baser and just pass on the same suggestions I gave you directly to "another pirate" out there, just in case it wasn't...

I was starting to wondering if there were a "wave" of pirate ships being built these days.

    -War Base-
    (see what I did there?)

  5. I'm far from new to SG ownership. I have bought, owned, and inherited such gems as "Mike's Avengurs" (yes, spelled just like that), "Doods Dat Do Bad Stuffs", "Buddy Bumpers", "Legions of Somethings", and "Base 453-27 - Northeast". I know more about bad base names than most players do, firsthand, trust me...

Names tend to only be a factor for SGs you intend to try to grow and recruit people to. I suspect that "Buddy Bumpers" died from lack of recruits, despite the millions in inf burned into prest by the first owner to get the base built.

I'm just looking for a toybox with some prest to experiment with some base design ideas. The name isn't that important to me, as for functional purposes, the SG isn't going to be active or recruited to.

    @War Base
  6. I'm looking to buy a SG or VG on the Virtue server. I want to build a solo decorative base there, so ideally I am looking for a totally inactive group with a bunch of prest stored up, preferrably an inherited or abandoned group with no members.

Red would be better, but either side would do.

So if you have an old, unused SG, or know of someone with a group to sell on Virtue, please let me know.

Reply here, send me a tell in-game, or look for me on the BaseBuildersInc. chat channel.

I would rather buy an established group with some prest already there and give a player the inf, rather than burn it back into nothing by buying prest, though I will simply do that if I can't find one for sale.

  7. War Front

    Cannons?

The way I make cannons is to stack a series of the larger wall light (off)s back to face to form a long black tube as a barrel. Add some of the fluory tube lamps for the croosbeams at the base for the wheels, and use large rested wall vents as wheels. Add a few other decorations, usually parts from the lighting section, and a few crystal balls beside it for ammo.

It isn't ideal, as the tube ends up being very big, almost human cannonball sized, but it is the best design I have come up with so far...

I really don't have a specific amount in mind. Ideally at least a mil, obviously the more the better. I was hoping to find a couple of people wanting to sell bases and figure out the best deal.

I'm looking to build a specific decorative solo base, so I don't need a fully pimped out base with an AES and all porters on the biggest plot sort of thing. The more toys I have to play with, the more creative I can be, but I think I can pull of the basic design I want with about a mil prest.

I know I can do that, and have done that several times, but I would much rather give another player the inf, rather than send it back to the game. As well, I usually buy bases for a lot less than the 500 to 1 prest conversion ratio.

If someone has a base they don't want or use and can get a pile of inf for it, and I can get a new building ground for less than the normal conversion rate, I feel it is a win/win situation for all.

I bought a few bases on other servers when people started migrating to Ex, leaving unwanted bases behind, but didn't get any on Virtue. I know it is a totally different community here, that is far more loyal to the server, which is why there were far less migrants...

I don't have high expectations on finding a base for sale here, and will likely have to just start a new one and buy the prest, but it never hurts to ask, and who knows, I might get lucky...

    @War Base
  10. If you haven't found anyone yet, I suggest you join the BaseBuildersInc. (period included) chat channel and send out a few requests for some base work needed there. Some of the best builders in the game hang out in that channel, and we do work for hire constantly. I get about half of the jobs I do from requests that pop up there...

  11. I'm looking to buy a SG or VG on the Virtue server. I'm strictly interested in base building as solo base, so I am looking for a totally inactive group with a bunch of prest stored up, preferrably an inherited or abandoned group with no members.

So if you have an old, unused SG, and want to make a few mill to a few bill selling it off, please let me know. Reply here or send me a tell ingame to @War Base.
  12. I would suggest that you join the BaseBuildersInc. (period included) chat channel and ask in the channel any time you are on. It is an open channel that anyone can join without needing an invite.

Many of the Basers that are active in the channel do basework-for-hire jobs. I think 6 of my last 8 jobs were from people that contacted me live on the channel. I'd offer to help you, but I am booked solid until mid-January at least...

Reposting this message to keep it sticky will help too, but I think most people get faster results hanging out where the Basers hang out live. It is a lot easier to get tours that way too.

  14. I had a great idea for the NPCs!

(Sorry if this has already been suggested...)

Rather than make them anything "specific" (Doctor, Bartender, Maid), just make them link to a custom critter creator like AE has. So we could even make NPC versions of SG members if we wanted, that hung around the base full time.

Perhaps a simple script could be added to attach an emote to them, such as Dance, or RandomWalkAroundRoom, or RandomWalkAroundBase...

    Just a thought...

    BaseBuildersInc.

It is an open chat channel, anyone can join without an invite, and many of the best base builders in the game hang out there. I think the majority of the contestants for this event have popped up there from time to time. We are constantly giving and requesting tours there, not just of the contest bases, but for some of their main and home bases. Just search channels, type in the name as above (the period IS part of the name) and then join.

Just shout-out in the channel and ask if anyone is hosting a tour, or, if you see someone posting there that has a base or PERC contest entry you want to see, just ask them if you guys can arrange a time to meet up.

It is also a great place to get tips or inspiration for any of your own base building projects. And if you are the type that would rather sit back and watch a renovator work than a do-it-yourselfer, many of the Basers that hang out there will do basework-for-hire. Some will even give toutorials or will explain how some of their designs were made. It is a good alternative to posting an ad on the boards for such services. Also, many of the Basers are willing to visit your base and offer you some tips or suggestions to spruce up your home, if you'd like some advice of that nature. Just ask in that channel if someone is on that can give you some tips or design help. We do get busy from time to time, so you many have to ask a few times.

I'm on there "pretty much" daily, and am more than willing to show anyone that wants to see it my PERC contest base. I have bought War's Mine Ride... OF DOOM!!! (I really want to give a HUGE THANK-YOU to the PERC Peoples for giving us that option!) and I will be keeping it in tact, open year round, and will offer tours any time anyone wants to see it. Just hunt me down on the channel and we will work out the details for a tour time. If I am free, I'll even do it on the spot.

Thank you again to PERC for hosting this event, and I can't wait until the next one. I still can't believe that I won over some of the amazing other bases in my category, and I can honestly say that viewing all the entries, taking all the tours, and getting to meet a lot of the other Basers that were in the contest was the best part of the whole thing. I think this contest has gone a long way towards supporting, growing, and raising awareness of the Baser community, and we can't thank PERC enough for that.

Seriously, a huge heartfelt thanks to MP, Arkyaeon, SupaFreak, and all the other PERC Peoples, to all those that participated in the contest, and all the new friends I have made as a result of it.

    BEST CONTEST EVAR!!!

  17. I know I already talked to you directly about this MP, I'm just posting this so that my sometimes defective remembery has something that you can point to help me recall the details of my commitment.

I'm willing to be put up for base editing services.

To be specific: "I will create from scratch a single new room of any size, or, I'll edit an exisiting room in a base. I'll make anything, or follow any theme the buyer wishes, in any style, in any base, on any server."

Can't be any more open to options than that...

My services being offered are specifically for the editing of a base with existing SG resources, and does not involve me earning prest, crafting items, or unlocking beacons or badges for the group.

I am also willing to be put up for this service two times.

Editing times and dates will need to be worked out with the buyers, though I will try my hardest to get them both done as close to the date of the auction as possible, and before the new year, unless the buyer wants the work done at some specific, later date or time.

I probably won't be around for the event, so please send me a message with the names and contact details of the players that buy me.

If anyone is considering bidding on my services but wants to see examples of my work beforehand, look for me on the "BaseBuilderInc." chat channel and I will arrange a tour. I am on there pretty much nightly, with very few exceptions.

    -War Base-
  18. What I would love to see most isn't really a decorative item, but I would simply love to be able to buy prest at will. I know they would make a fortune off me with that alone. Maybe offer 100K prest for 20 or 40 points, 2 mil prest for 500 points. Sure to be a popular, often repeat purchase item. From me at least...

An idea I have discussed a few times with some other base designers, and elsewhere in threads, is the idea of offering us personal "lairs", most likely bought with points. The way my idea of a "lair" would work is that it would be like a pre-made, one room base. There could be several themes, like "Hidden Cave", "Space Base", "Mad Doctor's Lab", "Dorm Room", "Space Station", "Fallout Shelter", "Penthouse Suite", "Nightclub", "Local Bar", "Artist's Loft", "Secret Agent Safehouse" etc. Perhaps they could offer a new lair type monthly. One of the lair types should be something like a "Public Storage Unit" which would be a room that could hold 10-20 storage bins and a crafting table, but no TP pads or rezzers. Likely to be the number one choice for soloists...

The lair could be a single 6x6 to maybe 10x10 room (various shapes, sizes and features for various costs of course) that would come pre-decorated with several unique items, and could include special versions of some of the key "functional" features of SG bases (depending on the special lair type) such as recipe storage bins, TP pads that accept more than 2 beacons, etc.

Someone brand new to editing or with zero interest in it could simply use the lair as is, no editing required, right out of the box, but as they earned personal lair prest, they could add more decorative items, storage or TP pads, and so on (if the lair type allowed it), or if they wanted to edit, they could re-arrange or erase items in their lair or change wall and floor colors, many of the things we can do with the normal editor, but with only the options that have been unlocked. If you only had the Cave lair, you could not line it with outer space windows, unless you bought the Space Station lair as well.

The lair concept could be used in many positive functional ways. It could be used as a way for non-VIPs to "unlock" bases, in a limited way (a lair would always just be a single room base, they could add items to it, but never add rooms - unlocking a lair would allow you to join a SG, but not start one or edit a base). It could be used to help promote SGs and teaming... make it so that a personal lair can only be accessed via a seperate portal found in the entrance room of a SG, so anyone who wanted a personal lair would have to join a SG first to access it (and Sg members could easily visit each other's lairs from inside a base - if the player set permissions to allow SG members to visit lair). As you play in SG mode, for every point of prest you earn for the SG, you'd earn an equal amount of "Lair Prest" for you to use in your lair. Thus players would have a personal motivation to play in SG mode. Win/win.

Also, as a VIP perk, perhaps give all VIPs one free lair of their choice.

For those that already have access to making bases, if they buy a lair pack, then that lair room and all the items that come in it become unlocked for them to use in the editor in any room. In the decorative rooms section of the editor, they could now have the named lair rooms available to be added to any normal base. The lair rooms could have unique stat or aspects that could combine features or placement of items found in other room types - for example, The Lab might allow both TP pads and medical rezzers in it, a Space Base might allow both power and control items in the same room, and so on. SGs might be encouraged to buy specific lairs just to gain the new room types.

Perhaps a unique NPC could be included with each room as an extra incentive for people to buy them. Buy the cave lair, get the butler. The nurse from the lab, dancers from a club, bartender from the bar, etc.

NPCs could also be bought seperately in packs, sort of like costumes or emotes are. As could the unique items from the lair rooms, like rock wall sections from the cave lair, windows that show "outer space" from the Space Base or Space Station lair, fancy water fountains from the Penthouse Suite, and so on.

Introducing lairs would help SGs gain membership and prest earners, as they could be made to only be accesed via a SG, and it would give all those players that want a simple personal base or apartment a means to do that without having to build a whole SG base.

And as the lair bases would be static single rooms, maybe no more than 8x8 or 10x10 in size, perhaps with an item limit of only about 10K (this would include items stored in bins), the drain on server resources should be a lot less per lair than a normal base is, though what you gain in that regard might be lost against the volume of them made...

Anyway, just shooting out some ideas on how I'd like to see it done...

    -War Base-
  19. These are all great ideas....

I know I would buy a "fountain pack" (water stuff), a "recreation games pack" (pool tables, arcade game cabinets, airhockey table), or a "Casino pack" (slots, card tables, craps, roulette...).

However, I think the simplest and easiest "base" based thing they could sell is prest. I know they would make a fortune off me with that alone.

Maybe offer 100K prest for 20 or 40 points, 2 mil prest for 500 points. Sure to be a popular, often repeat purchase item.

Another idea I had that I have discussed a few times with some other base designers is the idea of offering personal "lairs" for points.

The way a "lair" would work is that it would be like a pre-made, one room base. There could be several themes, like "Hidden Cave", "Space Base", "Mad Doctor's Lab", "Dorm Room", "Space Station", "Fallout Shelter", "Penthouse Suite", "Nightclub", "Local Bar", etc. The lair would be a 6x6 or 8x8 room (or various shapes maybe) that would come pre-decorated with several decorative items, and could include some of the key "functional" features of SG bases (depending on the special lair type) such as salvage storage, TP pads, medical rezzer, etc. The lair would be set up with some unique decorative items not normally found in the editor. Someone brand new to editing or with zero interest in it could simply use the lair as is, no editing required, ready for use right out of the box, but as they earned personal lair prest, they could add more decorative items, storage or TP pads, and so on, or if they wanted to edit, they could re-arrange or erase items in their lair or change wall and floor colors, and such...

The unique items from those rooms would be unlocked in the editor to be added to any room.

Perhaps a unique NPC could be included with each room as an extra incentive for people to buy them. Buy the cave, get the butler. Likely to be the number one choice for soloists.

Probably a few kinks to work out with the idea, but I would love some suggestions on how to make it better. If we can polish it up enough, perhaps the devs might give it some serious consideration. I know they had planned on offering us a personal apartment option at one point, this would be something along those lines that could make them a lot of additional money...

I know I would likely buy all the lair packs, just to to have everything unlocked. Though, as it was my idea, I think the least they could do is throw me a total set of everything for free...

    -War Base-
  20. This issue seems to have been addressed without much mention or hoopla...

If you unlock the vet items, those items will now appear for you in the base editor at the end of the Room Details tab, allowing you to drop as many as you want, just like any other editor item, as long as you have the prest for it.

    Problem solved.

    Thanx devs!

    Base Emblems

What some have suggested to the devs is that they scrap the "zero" SG logo and replace it with a "null" graphic that would produce blank banners and glass. Any SG that needed a "zero" as there logo could just use the letter "O".

From a programming standpoint, it should be far easier for them to blank out the code on an existing graphic than it is to expand the number of current logos and add a new one. The easier the fix is, the more likely it is to happen. Hopefully this could be in the works for us now.

  22. There are many, many, bases out there with apartments and dorms and schools...

Easiest way to see some, is to join a chat channel like "BaseBuildersInc." and ask for a tour.

Most of the Basers there would be happy to show you their work.

    To the team:

I know I for one am quite happy about the new base toys!

Of course we'd all like to see more stuff, new items, "bottoms" put on certain base objects, but as I have said before, they will do what they can for us, when they can. It is a slow process, but we will get there eventually. All good things to those that wait.

Thank you devs! I really mean that.

Sure we have waited a long time, and sure,we all want a lot more base luv, but let's just take it one step at a time. What we just got is a MAJOR hand in editing that opens up countless new design possibilities.

Rome wasn't built in a day. But with the new editor tools, the build time would be cut at least in half...

  24. Just a quick message for all the Basers with entries in the contest, as well as for any observers that want to see some of the entries...

If you haven't joined the "BaseBuildersInc." chat channel in the game, can you please do so, as this is were many of us "hang out" nightly to arrange tours of each other's bases.

Anytime you are on, please post a shout-out in the channel if you are offering a tour, requesting one, or are wanting to join a tour group in progress.

Also, if anyone knows of any other channels popular with Basers where tours are often arranged, please let us know the names of those channels here. Many of us hope this contest can help bring the Baser community closer together to share tips, ideas, and tours.

    Thanx.

  25. UPDATE
    Freestyle/Player's Choice

    @War Base

Thought I was done, but I had to go back and edit some more... made a few major changes, I hope for the better. That being said, thought I should update my item count details.

I won't be around for the judges (I might actually need to be away from the game for a week or two), so the base is going to have to speak for itself. I hope it says all the right things...

This was a tough contest, totally against my style... most of my designs are VERY presty, and I found this contest was like working with handcuffs on. So totally against how I am used to editing. I hated it so much at first.

It took me 6 major attempts to "retrain" myself to think about the "cost" of each item I placed. I totally envy those that made their bases fast and easily. I think that the limited funds aspect of this contest is what makes it so interesting and fair. I don't think anyone in this contest has any sort of advantage here, in spite of what some might seem to think. In fact, a practiced Baser might be at a disadvantage here, as they have to work within limits and in a way they aren't used to. I really think everyone has an equal shot at this, and I don't envy the job ahead for the judges.

I think I am finally happy with my base (for now, still have a day or two to stress about changes again), and I must now admit that the whole process of making a base with the cuffs on was sort of fun. Wasn't at the time, might not want to do it again, but I can look back and laugh at going through it now. Stressing over if I "really" needed those 1000 prest items or not. After a few bad starts, I was tempted to try to make a base using only the 10 prest items...

I wonder if I still have time to try that...

Before I forget to say it, I want to thank MP and the rest of the PERC people for making this happen for us. And I really want to thank all those players that turned out to take a stab at this, to show everyone that Basers are active and willing to participate in stuff like this. I can't wait to see everyone's work, and I hope this is just the start of many contests and/or activities for Basers.

And finally, I want to say thanks to the devs for showing us some "Base Luv" with the new editor tools, and the making of unlocked vet base items unlimited. Now, if only we can get the blank SG logo to be a perma thing (just scrap the "zero" SG logo and replace it with a "null" graphic - any SG that needs a 0 as a logo could just use the letter O, easy fix!). I know, I know, give us an inch, and we want a mile... I don't mean to sound unappreciative, I'm just throwing an idea out there...
