Consolidating characters in a SG

One of the big draws of COH Freedom for me was the ability to create a second free account so that I could invite all of my characters into my SG. It's a clumsy workaround for a feature that should already be in the game, but I was looking forward to it.

But apparently I can't do that. It takes something like 2 paid years or $100 in order to have a second account that's able to join and invite in a supergroup. The devs apparently do not want players to have that ability. It's one of the few 'play our way' mindsets remaining.

So let me ask -- how do I get all of my characters on a server into the one SG that I own?

1. Am I wrong about the free accounts? Is there a way to do this by dual-boxing without spending money?

2. Is getting a friend to help my only option? That's a tedious and unsatisfactory solution. I have to know someone I trust enough to not wreck my SG, and I have to impose on them for over an hour while I log on a server full of characters one at a time.

3. Is there some other way to consolidate all my characters into a SG of which I am not aware?

I'm sure there's a solution for this, even though the devs seem dead-set on denying us the ability. It's just too convenient, and I'm sick of waiting so long to get it done.

If I read ParagonWiki correctly,

  • Access to join a Supergroup is a Tier 2 bonus.
  • Tier 2 requires 2 Tokens to achieve.
  • If you buy 1200 points ($15), you get 1 Token for your 1st purchase on the Market and 1 Token for the 1200 points.

But...
  • A new VIP subscribtion (even for only 1 month) would have access to Supergroup included

Your choice...

EDIT: ... or ask a friend

Remove all permissions from all members of the SG except the ability to invite and promote.
Invite anyone and promote them to leader (or, really, any rank). Have them then invite your alts.
Once done, kick them with your super leader.
Grant the other ranks whatever abilities you want to give them.

Ta da!
It's really not that hard, just ask on a global channel for your server.

Paragon Wiki's Paragon Rewards article's only mention of SG is that you must be level 2+ to be able to join one (which means having paid any money to Paragon, pretty much... minimum $5)- there's no other mention that of further SG access or anything else. I did think that you'd have to be higher than 2 for full rights, but, I'm not seeing it there, so that might not be the case. I've not bothered to upgrade my Freem account to Preem, so I can't comment on it.

Everyone starts with 1 token, so you only need an extra token. Paying $5 to get the minimum amount of PPs will grant you the first-points-purchase token.

Also, if you are going this route, what is the advantage/disadvantage of paying the minimum VIP subscription time (1 month I think) to get the free points bonus for recommending a friend, then having the second account go premium after that?

Since both accounts get points if the one pays I'm thinking that is a slightly better option, but not sure. You won't get the token for paying for points. But you get 400 points and 1 month of SG access for being VIP and 1 token. By the end of that time you should be set anyway and so won't need anything else. Plus you get a bit of a boost for your original account.

I think the best deal for getting a new account to Tier 2 is to buy the VIP starter kit. It gives you access to Going Rogue without having to buy it separately from the store and puts you into Tier 2 when the month is up.

Yeah, I used to be part of a 2-man SG and my friend doesn't play any longer. So I use this route to invite alts to my SG. I take one of my higher-ranked toons and go to Ms. Liberty in AP where my new alts arrive. Then, just broadcast in chat asking if someone can help you with a quick SG invite for an alt. Usually someone offers to help within a minute or two...AP is always full of people sitting around with nothing to do, lol. All you gotta do at that point is invite them into the SG, log off and switch to the alt and have them invite the alt. It's pretty quick but if you have a long list of alts that need inviting, maybe just do a few at a time so as not to take up too much of someone's time.

You don't need to promote them, just leave them at the bottom rank. Just make sure your SG settings don't allow the entry-level members to make any real changes to your SG and make sure they can invite others. If you're paranoid about someone entering your base, you can always change the permissions temporarily on things like salvage racks, enhancement tables, etc. I doubt you'll need to even kick them from the SG. Everyone I've dealt with has promptly helped out and then dropped out of the SG before I could even check to see if they were still in the SG.

Paying *any* amount of money for this basic function is a non-starter for me. I don't intend to ever use the second account.

Looks like I'll have to impose on one of my friends to get this done. Thanks for the advice, everyone.

Here is what I did, just to see if I could. I made an account, created a toon, and dual-boxing, invited that toon into my sg. No problems at all.

This could have been due to the old accounts being reactivated as premium - but there were no toons at all on this account until I made one.

As for having people "wreck your SG" - - I promise you, that I've assisted friends and strangers alike in getting their alts into their SG. Before I got my second account, strangers helped me also. (as well as in-game friends)

So, send me a PM, tell me what server you're on, I'll make a toon and will stick around for the time it takes to invite all your toons, no problem. (unless I"m already on a taskforce)

Honestly, I don't think anyone would "wreck" your sg - by and large, people want to help. It's a simple matter to invite your alt, promote as high as possible and wait for the next toon.

Sadly it seems we are going to be stuck with the annoying work around until the devs change their minds. They were recently asked (in a Ustream I think) about email invites and we were told that if they ever add such a feature we will not be allowed to send invites to our own characters.

Oh and please be aware that it seems that Premium accounts can't pay base rents. Don't ask me why tho.

Yeah, I'll second that. As someone who has a 1 person SG and has had to rely on others to help me invite my alts to my SG, I would definitely be willing to return the favor and help you out if you need to invite a bunch of your alts into your SG.

My freem account (not premium) could not be invited to my SG... so you'd need to spend some amount of money (even as little as $5).

To be fair, I don't think the goal is to screw existing players. I think the goal is to entice people to spend money by holding back 'cool stuff'.

Has anybody actually tested having a Premium invite someone to a SG, or is it just a "it should work"?

You can use a Preem account to invite your alts into your own SG. Preems can invite and promote within an SG but they can not pay rent and they can not start an SG on their own. I've already invited all my I21 alts into my supergroups using a preem account.

It only cost $5 to upgrade a free account to a Preem.
