Tech flight costume parts?

What can I use for characters who don't naturally have flight? The flight power has a look of an inherent power, and most wings don't fit these characters. The steampunk wings are mechanical, so that's one option, even if it won't be a fit for all characters. What other options are there?

There's also the tech wings, the Celestial wings (not overtly mechanical, but could call them energy wings), and a few others if you're willing to include ones as being potentially bio-mechanical.

Edit: And the Rocket Boots as mentioned by Chyll, plus there's the Piston Boots (although those don't provide an animation for continual lift, just when you leave the ground).

Tech wings or the rocket boots are what I tend to use.

Or the Raptor pack from the first safeguard mission.

Or the Jetpack from Posi TF.

Or the purchaseable (with in game inf) Jetpack from the Shadow Shard vendor.

Or the purchaseable (with real monies) 30 day Jetpack.

Or the Jingle Jet.

With these, you don't even have to actually pick the Flight power.

I created a character roughly 7 years ago with the vague concept that she'd fly around with a fixed wing jet pack sort of like the way Buzz Lightyear's works (wings fold up while not flying; wings extend and lock in place while flying). Of course I created this character well before wings of ANY kind existed in the game (even before the power-based ones GATE-keeper mentioned) but at the time I guess I made the somewhat naive assumption that "any day now" the Devs would eventually provide a tech-oriented fixed wing costume item. The idea of having something like that in this game just seemed so completely logical and obvious.

Well it's been over 7 years and counting. At this point I guess I'm just hoping that something like that will happen before they permanently shut the game servers down.

Yeah, I wish the Raptor Pack, or something just like it, would be added as a standard back slot costume item. For all the pieces in the "anime" set, nothing exists that extends off the back or shoulders in a typically anime (mehca) way. One can dream though, I guess...

Any of these which aren't temp powers? I wouldn't want a character to rely on a 30 day jetpack, for example.

At least for my current character I found the perfect power. I tried the Power Slide, and it has the perfect effect for him. If I leave that on during flight that would be just what I need. It's not tech, rather an extension of his power, but that's good enough. What I didn't want was a "look, no strings" flight power. I'm happy about this solution because its look fits the character well, even if it's a little bit of a stretch that he was able to develop his power into flight.

i'd like to second using the tech wings and/or rocket boots costume pieces (from costume recipe drops)

I have a tech character who flies and I went with the rocket boots costume pieces to show where her flight comes from.

I have to characters who are "natural" so one has rocket boots that fit concept wise with her stealth suit/body armor while the other uses Tech wings which do flap but look more likely to hold his weight than the silly little leather steampunk bat wings.

Both are recipes that you should be able to find at the consignment house. Prices should be reasonable nowadays, can't say about their salvage requirements however.

I second that.

And while we're at it, can we get Shields as costume options as well? That way, if I want to pick Invuln or WP as a power set, but still use a shield, I can.

Well, there is a craftable Jet Pack recipe that I forgot to list. It only lasts 30 minutes, but you can have several recipes (and the salvage) on you so that you are able to replace it when the 30 minutes are up. You can only have one of these cratfted at a time.

Theoretically, you can have one each of all that I listed plus the craftable one on your toon at the same time, which means when one runs out, you have others readily available.

Thanks. Rocket boots sound like the thing to go for. I hope the devs will consider adding them to the market, because they will be impossible to get to most Premium players.

I'd really like to see more of these costume parts: jet packs, helicopter blades, winged boots, ... Unlike most costume parts these are things I'll consider paying for on the Market.

You can get rocket boots on the market. They are at WW or the BM.

Plus you can get them as drops.

The Market as in Paragon Market, no the consignment shop. Free players (all of them) and many (if not most) Premium players do not have access to the Invention system (Preem access depends on veteran L7 Tier Bonus or $2/mo mini-fee), and thus none of the invention costumes.

Depending on your concept, several of the wings can be used as part of a tech battle suit. I have one character using battle armor that is insect based so he has the insect wings and a sonic/sonic named Eagles Cry who's battle armor used both the rocket boots and the Valkyrie wings. It really depends on what your concept is.

Devs would post more if they could say "hi!" without people whining because they wanted them to say "hello".

I mainly use the Rocket Boots for my tech/natural origins. My natural thugs/traps MM for example has no travel power. Going with his 'crazy gadgets' motiff I started collecting all the temp travels I could.

At level 26 he has; Raptor Pack, Zero-G, Goldbricker Jet (my personal fave)the jingle jet and I think the one you can buy in PvP zone. All said, I shouldn't run out of time on all of them before level 50. This is what made the most sense for the concept.

That said, I've recently started using the IDF boots on a few toons. One was Tech origin and when I picked up flight I started heading over to WW to get the Rocket Boots by default. As I was doing this I noticed how bulky the Defense Boots look.

Wasn't that big a stretch to imagine he has Anti-Grav tech in his boots. No visible means of levitating, just anti-grav!

Really, unless what you are concerned about is how it looks to others, it's quite simple to RP any origin having any power. Even without bulky boots or the like, your hero could easily have some kind of anti-grav tech in his belt, or built into the suit. Maybe they found a magic talismen that gives them flight. (Just because you are tech origin doesn't mean you can't make use of magic items if you find them, just means it's not where your power originates. etc etc.

The day job jet pack power can be permanent if you log out at the right spot. And the rocketboard is permanent.

The steampunk jump pack is basically permanent and that works like flight if you keep applying thrust. Plus it has a unique look.

Steamjump does not work like flight AT ALL, it works exactly like the GvE jumppack with a shorter recharge timer. It has unlimited upward movement, but your forward movement is still limited by what mobility you already have. So if all you have is Sprint, then Steamjump is only really good to get over big obstacles (walls, buildings, cliffs, etc.)

Hmm, I know it's slow, but I never had a problem moving forward with it. I get your point about it not being as good as flight. That's true.
