I'd have to agree with some of the others here...doesn't really look like a jet to me...

Don't think it's supposed to be. Think more V22 Osprey or AV8B Harrier, instead of pure jet.

Still not feeling it and speaking of VTOL aircraft that look sexy (with a friggn'n awesome avionics suite, really worth checking out the Northrop Grumman OLS (well I guess its more than that) video.
Anyways, I think I'd be more comfortable if they didn't call it the Batwing, call it something else like Batear or Batclaw or Batwhatever, Batwing to me implies something sleek.

In Somalia during the whole "Blackhawk Down" thing gunship pilots had to make assaults in the city, with their rotor blades sometimes scraping the tops of walls. And the MH6s were not even as armored as the Apache above. Helicopters have disadvantages in that sort of urban environment. Perhaps the bat "wing" is a military prototype of a vtol apache-lilke gunship with no vulnerable top rotor or tail rotor.
In such an environment, being excessively streamlined would be an unnecessary luxury. I'm guessing what I'm seeing are a pair of armored engines for redundancy like an A-10, an armored high visibility cockpit, and a pair of gunpods in swivel mounts sort of like the swivel gatling gun under the nose of the Apache, only with more firepower.
Some of those parts look like the pivot into wings and the gunpods appear hinged to shift upward, so maybe this is a vtol that converts into something almost like an armored hovercraft.

that's an interesting thought, Arcanaville. Looking again at the Batwing, it does look like there is some sort of stubby rotor jutting out from under a center disk, and framed below by something of a ring. Not enough for full lift, but maybe assisting.
Well, I think I was right with the CGI thing, if this trailer is a real one, and the 'wing shown from 1:41 on is any indication.

It sure looks like it's a real trailer and not a fanboi/fangurl creation, what with the action and dialog and such.
So, assuming it's real, then at 1:40, you can get ready to hit the pause. If you catch the 'wing in it's first two or three frames, and then compare the cockpit section to what you see there...
Definitely CGI is gonna be happening, without question. But now, it's more like the F-22 in function, pending further footage of it 'operating.'
/oh, and I like the trailer. I hope the movie is terribly awesome, at least halfway between 1 and 2, if not more than halfway.

The wings are tucked in panels overlapping, the second vid in the link convinced me. The control surfaces were detailed enough to be fairly obvious what's happening.
A cool idea for the 'wing, if a little fantasy, I mean, weaps and fuel storage for dual configs must be a *pain*. Although Fox surely can think it up.
And definitely, without a doubt, there will be CGI of it. Whether they apply some to the streetable version... *shrugs*

The 'Wing' you mentioned is from 'Batman Forever'.

But that's just a guess.
Not too sure about that, Nolan has shown a general hatred towards CGI and avoids it where possible, it's actually part of what I love about his movies.
