Crafting multiple recipes.

This is less a question, and more a plea for help.

This came up on a global channel I belong to, and I thought that perhaps some of you might know a better way.

Some have had the fortune of accruing multiple recipes worthy of crafting. Each one takes a minimum of three salvage, if memory serves. Some take more.

Now, as it stands, if I have two recipes that take Iron, when I select 1 piece of Iron from my storage bin, this changes the coloring of that ingredient in both recipes, even though I only picked up one.

I would scroll down, filling in the other things I need to craft, and invariably, I'm missing a piece of something, so I go to WW to buy it, or maybe AE to trade tickets for it.

Eventually, I find that I got most of what I needed but was missing that one piece of Iron or Steel, or something. Yet, if there was a way to total up all the different pieces of salvage needed for all the recipes, I think this would be a nice time saver.

So - are there any programs or tricks, tips, whatever, aside from just writing things down in notepad (or some other place) that are available for free use?

If not, can we ask the guy who does Mids to possibly integrate this with the already outstanding program? Or someone else?

Thanks for your time.

For every recipe you need salvage drop it into the auction house click Find item. Then click Search for salvage. Buy one of everything it needs.

Done this a million times, go to craft thinking I have everything and two recipies were both sharing one piece of salvage so once one is crafted the other is short. If you are just drive by crafting no big deal but if you are filling out a build it is very annoying.

The only solution I know of is what Ronkarr said. Total what you need on paper and make sure you have enough of it.

If you are crafting recipes for your build, then, it's already in there.
Window Menu -> Recipe Viewer. That gives you a list of all the salvage you need with the current build.

If you mean for just crafting for sale, well, you could make a throwaway build if you want. But Mids really isn't optimal for that kind of thing, IMO.

I just typically do as Chaos Creator, regardless of what I currently have on hand I just buy everything for each recipe, then either hang on to the extra salvage (because I already have it) or sell it back as usually if its hard to buy at WW then it will sell back readily enough to avoid losing any significant amount (or is worth hanging onto against future shortage).

And as always patience is worth its weight in coin when it comes to buying salvage (or anything) off WW.

EDIT: Salvage isn't showing on that last window, but it's further down the list.

Yes, Mids does this - but not cumulatively. And you are probably correct that it's not optimal. Perhaps something besides pen and paper is.

I go through the list just typing (on another machine) one item per line, e.g.:

improvised cybernetic
human blood sample
daemon drive
daemon drive
iron
brass
improvised cybernetic

Then, because I am a Unix user, I go to the top of the file and type !Gsort<return> and then !Guniq -c<return>. And I end up with:

1 brass
2 daemon drive
1 human blood sample
2 improvised cybernetic
1 iron

and I am happy. Choirs of angels sing.

I suspect spreadsheety programs can do stuff like this but I am afraid of technology and have not learned how.

You're afraid of technology and use Unix? I think a galaxy just exploded somewhere.

Maybe you have a different meaning of cumulatively. Mids gives you a list of all the salvage you need and how many of each you need. Here's an image similar to Roderick's but without "Include Recipes" checked. Notice this random build needs
5 x Alchemical Silver
1 x Ancient Artifact
8 x Ancient Bone

etc, etc

I sit corrected! Yay!

I guess I just hadn't figured out how to do this yet.

Thanks!

It was sort of ironic. I've been using Unix since I needed to sit on phonebooks to reach the keyboard. I just... I've never really had cause to learn how to do fancy things in spreadsheets because I can do them all more directly anyway.

Mid's does that? *BOGGLE*

Holy cow that's useful. Not for an entire build, since I've never shopped for an entire level 50 from scratch at one sitting...but, used in a more limited way, that's very nice.

Now I wonder what else Mid's has that I never noticed. You guys all have flying cars now, right?

LOL! I read the post you refer to and thought the exact same thing.

The many features in Mids that I didn't know about continue to astound me. If I didn't prefer to spend most of my free time in CoH, I might one day learn most of all the great Mids tools. As it now stands, I use it like a recent 'MSOffice for New Computer Owners' grad uses Excel.. Barely scratching the surface and yet still in awe.

Not sure the Titan Network folks who have expanded and maintained it would be entirely happy about being compared to MS Office products....

I usually have my Recipe, Salvage, and Vault windows open when I do this. As you open each recipe, you see a list of salvage items and for each item you see the number you have plus the number you need. I just go through each item and move salvage in or out as needed. When I get to the end of the recipes on hand, I do a quick scan for any duplicates I need and feed them in.

Since its all probably XML anyway, I bet they could build a shopping list tab like the one in Mids.

Weblogs and forums prove to me that Theodore Sturgeon was right, however, his estimate was on the low side.
