The future is HERE!

I could have used some self-lacing shoes back in kindergarten. My teacher wanted to hold me back because I couldn't tie a bow (and to a lesser extent, because she wanted to "cure" me of being left handed).

It always makes me smirk every time I hear of adults trying to "cure" kids of things like this. Your teacher might as well should of tried to "cure" you of having feet to put into your shoes as well.

Yeah being left handed is so wrong, yet the kid eating paste is ok. :P

Well in the coming Mad Max apocalypse being a practiced omnivore will probably be a good survival quality.

On the other hand one of the girls I went to school with recounted how her first grade teacher made her use her left hand for writing and stuff.

In the end, did she find that there was no cure for you being sinister?

Meh. We already saw proof of concept from an independent woman who was making them.
I'd bet its the same tech.
Nearly a year ago in fact.

So here's the 411:

Nike's made 1500 pairs of Nike Air Mags (sorry, they don't auto-lace, but they DO light up).

They're being auctioned on eBay and cannot be directly purchased. The reason? All proceeds are going towards The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, which is definitely cool.

If you have some disposable income, you might be able to snag a pair for around (currently) $5000.

I thought a guy in his basment already created these shoes that auto-laced but were normal sized, and function shoes.. So I'm abit dissapointed to see this isn't going to be the future of sneakers with this guy reaping the billions.

On the plus side Fox is a awesome dude, and I hope they get a lot of money out of these none functional replicas.

I don't remember a grade-school teacher ever trying to cure my left-handedness, but we did, as a matter of overall school policy, always get the blunt scissors.

Wrong handed = wrong headed

Michael J. Fox was on Letterman to promote the shoes. Turns out a couple people are also doing a price match for each of the bids.

The special commercial embedded on that page was a lot of fun, right down to the Lone Pine Mall sign and the Biff Tannon quote. Doc is sadly looking a bit worse for the wear, but this is probably at some point in his timestream before he had his plastic surgery and colon replaced.

Just to stay on topic: Cool Shoes and damn I want those glasses.

On the left handed stuff, I'm originally a lefty but with my mom's help I taught myself to be ambidextrous. In the 2nd grade pretty much from the first day of school my teacher was always getting on to me about my being left handed (something about she believed that evil people were left handed or something) so when I told my mom she suggested that we mess with her and over the next two weeks I learned to write and and draw with my right hand as well. Then in class one day as she is hovering around my desk giving me that disapproving look that was usually the precursor to a complaint or two I switched mid page from my left hand to my right hand. "2nd grader used switch-hit righting style. Critical hit! It was super effective!" As soon as she walked away I switched back to my left hand. My mom ended up convincing the school to switch me a different teacher's class. The new teacher was way different and thought it was very cool that I could write with both hands. I ended up doing much better in class. So what is it with the left handed thing? I haven't really thought about it until this thread brought it up. Do people really think being left handed is evil?

Also really really really want those glasses.

Work in progress no more. I have decided that I'm going to put my worst spelling errors here. Triage Bacon, Had this baster idea, TLR

If being left-handed makes you evil, then my grand-mother, my mother, my sister, and my wife are all evil. And other than my mother joining mutants a few years ago, I can't say any of them are/were evil.

This future smell funny. Can i have a different one?

All silliness aside i like the cause that the shoes are funding, but i'm considerably more ambivalent about the shoes themselves. Which i suppose is a moot point since i'm not going to buy them anyway.

If it's about self-lacing shoes shouldn't there be some in the links?

Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...
