The King of Fighters...

Happened to come across this little "gem" on Netflix and I regret ever coming across it, much less watching it. There is so much wrong with this movie that I can't comprehend how this made its way into production...

I think the only two castings they got remotely correct was Mai Shiranui and Iori Yagami...BECAUSE THEY WERE AT LEAST ASIAN! So not a complete whitewash...

Mai, Kyo and Iori are the main characters...mind is already blown, especially given Iori's background.

Rugal is the main bad guy, okay that's fine...except for the fact he's played by Ray Park. No offense to Ray Park, but he really didn't fit the character.

I'm a big fan of Terry Bogard due to the Fatal Fury movies...and my god...I felt like I was stabbed with a spoon when I saw his character getting beat up by what I would compare to cannon fodder and for some reason, he's Mai's partner in the CIA.

Kyo is the chosen one and is the only one who can stop Rugal and some backstory about the Kusanagi sword...blah blah blah...

I really can't complain too much about the wardrobe with the exception of Mai and Terry. Now I know Mai wasn't going to be sporting her fanservice outfit...but what they had her fighting in was god awful, purple looking dress. Now...Terry Bogard has a really basic outfit...and yet they even screw that up when we see him in a mock up version of it, I guess it was too much to find a red jean jacket and a pair of red Converse shoes. I guess this was some sort of easter egg, but after the Rugal fight, we see him pick up a red and white hat off the ground that says Fatal Fury.

I know the movie is "loosely" based on the property...but god damn...just...****...so much hate.

I was fine w/ the tournament being in another dimension...just the story they pitted around it was full of ****.

The Spoony One did a review of it not long ago. The fighting looks well choreographed, but other than that the movie seems to be a big ol' flaming bag of dog crap.

Goodbye, I guess.

If you think this was bad (and it was), may you never watch the Van Damme Street Fighter movie or the Dragonball Z movie

Actually, I differ with Spoony quite widely. You see he said the Tekken live action movie was ok but baulked at the King of Fighters movie.

Now Spoony is a fan of KoF but not of Tekken, I'm the other way around but even I could see that both the live action Tekken and the live action KoF movies are utter....utter dross.

To be honest they lack the one redeeming thing that the Van Damme Street Fighter has...Raul Julia chewing the scenery and hamming it up massively, he was obviously enjoying the role for all it was worth, which takes the movie from just 'bad' to 'enjoyably bad'

I believe that is what TVTropes calls a "Ham and Cheese" movie.

As much as I like Maggie Q, she lacks the, ahem, chest area to fill out Mai's fanservice outfit, so leaving it out was a good thing.

Agreed, though, that this movie was a steaming load. No wonder it went straight to DVD. I reget having netflixed it last week.

true, but the Van Damme Street Fighter movie barged in on so bad that it's good if the movie was about Bison and Zangief...oh lawdy the lolz

as for the Dragonball Z movie...I felt my childhood die a bit and personally feel the sole reason it made a profit was because of the nostalgia factor.

See, I got a few laughs out of the DBZ movie. Was it great? Not even close. But I don't have the attachment factor with DBZ itself. I've seen lots worse movies than that one. Blade Runner, Highlander 2, District 9, to name a few.

Blade Runner is a bad movie?

Well I suppose the theatrical release WAS bloody terrible but the directors cut is an awesome film, I demand you hand over your geek card forwith!

(Or I could just accept that not everybody likes the same things I do but demanding Geek cards is more fun).

Blade Runner is one of those movies that I want the time it took to watch it back. Utter frickin' garbage. I could only stand to watch it for about 10 minutes at a time before wanting to do something more exciting, like count the holes in my ceiling tile. The DVD I've got is labeled "Director's Cut" and came out in 1999. I've watched it a grand total of ONCE. It is getting donated to Goodwill or the Salvation Army or something. I don't want the damn thing in my collection.

I would sooner keep my Highlander 2 DVD over Blade Runner.

I like the movie, but I will readily admit that it is at the least very boring.
