Low level ambush farms and your Blaster.

Following the thread CEBR for Brutes, I tried something I had never done - farming.

I jumped in and tried it on a Brute, it worked very well! I took my first one from 1-22 in 3 hours. I was learning how it worked and since then I have taken a Tank and a Scrapper to 22 in less than 2 hours each.

Well you say so what? This is the Blaster Forum!

Well it works on Blasters too. Yes, I was able to take a Fire/Fire blaster from 1-22 in less than 2 hours using the same mission as the Brutes. Why 22? I like to play the game but after over 7 years the abillity to have SO's and start running with core powers slotted and ready is an enticing lure.

How can you do it?

Well Blasters have:
Base HP 1204.8
Max HP 1606.4

Brutes have:
Base HP 1499.3
Max HP 3212.7

So note at base levels we only have 300 less hit points.

Now how do you do it and live? Massive Damage! The requirements are simple - at least 2 quickly charging AoE's or Aura's and Hasten.

I will give you an introduction to how I did it on my Fire/Fire Blaster.

Powers needed

1. Level to 4 in Atlas or other locations as you like to get your 8 inspiration slots.
2. Take soon as available Fireball, Rain of Fire and Combustion.
3. Take Hasten at 8.
4. set fighting level at -1 x 8.

How to run the Gauntlet

1. Select CEBR mission at AE
2. Talk to the kittie and accept the mission
3. Go to the inspiration vendor and buy 1 green and 7 purple inspirations and take all 7 quickly and instantly refill.
EDIT! Forgot - Hit HASTEN before you enter.
4. Enter mission and run up and hit the first boss (Alpha or Beta) with a single attack.
5. Hit the second boss (Alpha or Beta) slightly further up with Fire Blast.
6. Stand at the glowing box and attack everything with your AoE's.
7. Keep converting drops to purples and popping any reds/oranges that drop.
8. If it looks like you are going to die click the box and get the ticket bonus after clearing ambushes and first 2 groups leave.

Reset and have fun!

Other blasters also fall into this ability Sonic/Electric is VERY good - I have mine from 1-19 in an HOUR. Sonic take Howl and Shockwave and in Electric take Lightning Field. The knockback from Shockwave means nothing. Just keep switching targets and tearing them up.

Have fun!

I farm high levels with my blaster, in AE and out, the advantage blasters have is the target cap, any loss of damage is balanced by the fact blaster have powers that cap at 16 vs 10 in effect doing 60% more damage (to some powersets I don't care to look at which Brute powers cap at 16 I just know multiple powers do). The downside is the damage cap where a brute has their damage cap at the low levels, a blaster doesn't.

Blasters vs Brutes at low levels the brute out damages the blaster cause of the damage cap. At high levels Blasters are more than capable and I see numbers on par with the brute AE farming thread.

HOWEVER AE ambush farming on a blaster will level you faster than any other way to level which I think is the main point and it's more than possible to do on any AT which has an AoE power, grab hand grenade and your good to go.

I run an ambush farm on my fire/fire/ice blaster set at x3/+8. I'm softcapped to S/L on him. All i do is fill my inspiration tray with nothing but greens for every run. For the hits that do get through.

Likely close enough. If a build could use an AoE, the Hand grenade craftable power works as a good sub.

All I want is to find a way to use a CEBR-like farm to get my Defenders/Trollers some levels. It's doable with Hand Grenades but it takes a while.

However MM has the +regen/+recov ability, wich will give u a huge breathing area for healing yourself.

Also note this is a single farm, once you get someone else with you, all lt's become bosses and can hit considerable harder. With little to no resist to back it up (unless you're into the epic pool), i cant really say this can be on par with brutes.

This is a low level ambush farm and just like the other low level ambush farms you'll be level 3 on 2/8 so you get anything to level 8 if you were serious about wondering if a Fire/MM can do a lowbie farm stop, they have more AoEs than any other AT at level 8, the only thing they're missing is a damage aura (and about 500% damage boost that brutes get due to scaling of damage buffs but that's another topic) Fire/MM is one of the best blaster farmers in the later levels and with Fire ball, Fire breath, and rain of fire you have more AoEs than anybody at level throw in hand grenade and you'll do more than fine.

As a side note, Brutes are better at lowbie farms due to the damage cap, the gap narrows and becomes almost nil when you're at higher levels depending on the powersets for ticket capping AE. My Fire/MM can ticket cap a map from getting mission to exiting mission in 2:30.

Drain Psyche will be of little use. You are exempted too low to have it during the mission so you would need to use it before entering the mission. It's more of a solo farm versus a single one. There are five missions in the arc.

Fire/MM excels at lvl 50 farms (well level 40 farms since you're getting PS) because of DP. You can have an AoE chain many of which cap at 16 not at 10, near capped regen, no endurance issues, World of Confusion actually is useful with the proc, and for under 200 million you can cap s/l. The ONLY issue is bosses hitting hard enough then another getting a lucky shot in. Which I'm creating a build to solve this since I have 3 build slots and most of my time is spent on it (although I tend to farm warriors as the purple drops more than make up for the loss in influence and ticket drops.)

On second thought s/l capped would work on those farms too... Off to create some magic.

Wow, this works like a charm and is actually fun and challenging as well!
I'd had a concept for Fire/Fire on the backburner for awhile now.

I'm generally in the anti-PL camp but I fall more on the no PL til you learn the nuances 1st mindest than outright oppossed.

I've grown tired of the 1-22 trek. The game starts at SO's for me. So I figured I'd give this a shot and see how mind numbingly boring it could be.

I was shocked to find myself being engaged and on my toes the whole time. I treated it like a 'Proving Ground' danger room scenrario and within 2 hours I was 20, numerous deaths in the learning curve only increased the fun. I exited the AE and trained up, flying off for the tram to get enhancements this hero felt refreshed and ready to take on anything the city could dream up!

With 75% resist you should be quite ok 90% of the time, as long you dont push the lvl+ too much and keep your defense softcaped (or nearly). I gave it a go earlier on my Archery/mind, redraw is very annoying and Archery has little to no good AoE (except tier9 nuke), still i could go around for 3-4 minutes untill i ran out of inspirations.

Could redo my build and get more base defense (weave/CJ/manu), then i could jump around with just 3purple and 1 orange (hitting 62% resist atm). But then i would pick my elec/mind, better AoE and end-drain is good to stop them once in a while with attacking.

Only problem is the base 120sec with 30sec duration, with 3slot recharge i still need 30secs to overcome the downtime, as i didnt take hasten

This sort of farm can be a lot of fun.

IMO the devs made a big error by nerfing boss farming to pointlessness instead of simply making the mobs that people ran them with better or adding a FAIR (not 1/4 exp) tax to XP. It's probably not coincidental subs are rumored to have gone down at a similar time. You can't make most of those who ran them interested in the minion/LT/boss paradigm. While some of the new content mixes up the paradigm to a degree increased spawn variety is necessary.

A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

If anyone is interested in running one of these that's set for level 3 (so you get powers up to level 8) then check out the first arc in my sig.

I actually have used this arc on many characters (mostly brutes) but it's actually what made me realize that with the mob cap and the actual amount of bonus a brute can sustain there isn't much difference between farming with my Blaster vs a Brute

I took a Rad/Fire Blaster and an Elec/Elec Blaster to 22 or so using Amazing Lowbie Action. I'm learning to play them solo using radio missions. I wanna feel good and familiar with their abilities before teaming up.

Effective numbers-wise or not - I find this mission incredibly helpful for "hurdle" or "speedbump" levels - say a Dark Miasma character who has just gotten Fearsome Stare and wants to slot it up ASAP. That's just an example from my personal experience - I do a lot of soloing.

You know, just to throw this out there - I had a whole mess of crepes this morning. They're just like pancakes, maybe even better.

Glad to see folks trying this!

It does really teach you how to manage your blaster and actually use those inspirations not die with 4 greens sitting there. I know I was dead set against Farming as a whole but in this mission once set as a lowbie blaster to -1 x 8 - it is flat out a challenge to stay alive and get thru the first 2 spawns + the ambushes.

It is not a door sitting cruise thru a boring mission. It is INTENSE and if you make a mistake you will die!

I do enjoy it and getting to 22 in 2 hours and having a bunch of tickets to roll on the Wheel of Cheese is great! I got back to back to recipes that sold for 60 million - so 2 hours and 120 million later I was at 22
