Server downtime

Am I missing some painfully obvious post on the server being down again, or is this yet another undocumented maintenance? It's getting rather frustrating as hell to log on, get into a mission, and "Oh by the way, we are taking down the servers again" and yet there is no posting of this that I can see on the forum. "Sorry for the inconvenience." It wouldn't be so inconvenient if people would actually post when this is suppose to happen. Apologies if this info is somewhere I am missing.

So the servers are actually down, it's not just me? That's good to know, at least.

Did the downtime announcement mention how long it was going to be? I just got home from work and it's a little annoying to see that the servers are down.

We're about one hour into the 2 hour window, I believe. And I didn't see any announcement anywhere about this.

WHilst I've not seen any elsewhere, there were the usual in-game announcements at 30/10/5 minutes.

This is the usual time of day for downtimes, always has been. Yes, they are normally scheduled for Thursdays. I have only been around for two years, but that is long enough to notice how downtimes grow more numerous when a new issue is approaching; especially if it's a big one. It's a necessary inconvenience.

Stuff I've done during downtimes when I was in a City of X mood:

  • Read Virtueverse profiles for characters and teams, or create my own.
  • Browse comic book characters, teams, and story arcs from other franchises.
  • Read City of Comic Creators comics.
  • Visit the Paragon Times archive.
  • Visit the official Timeline.
  • Visit the unofficial Timeline. (It's big, really, really big.)
  • Read the official City of Heroes comics. (Note: This is the new place to read these. Paragon Studios just recently removed the comics from the official website.)
  • My Marvel Digital subscription grants access to a massive online library including back issues ($60 annually, but there are a ton of free comics every week).
  • Buy single digital issues of comics at Comixology. DC, Vertigo, Top Cow, Image, Wildstorm, Dark Horse, Marvel, and so on. This is the iTunes of the comicverse.

By the time you log back in to City of X, chances are high that you'll have some brand new character ideas.

You guys know that if this game's servers were actually down excessively then no one would bother to start threads like this. People complain the loudest when the "unusual" happens. It's a testament to this game's very strong up-time record that whenever it very infrequently comes down for unscheduled maintenance like this people scream bloody murder.

Oh, I can think of a reason why it's not been posted, but then I'm sure the community people don't want to hear it. While the server downtime wasn't posted on Facebook, the training room stress test looks to be there and not here. Way to keep us informed guys.

Things to do while the server is down;

1. Start the laundry.

2. get a snack.

3. Vacuum

4. Get another snack.

5. Read a book.

6. Write a book.

7. Get a book about snacks.

8. Get a book about laundry.

9. Wonder why the book is in the washer with the laundry.

10. Figure out if the snacks got into the laundry as well.

11. Start laundry again. This time to get the snacks out.

12. Use the hairdryer to dry off the book that was in the laundry.

13. Get another snack. The last one got wet.

Just a few things that happen here when the servers go down.

Uh huh but isn't this the FIFTH extra downtime in seven days?

I can think of a few myself. I was just wondering why after you asked why the devs appear to have changed policy on keeping us in the know about downtimes, people think it is a request to alleviate your boredom.

I was playing during the downtime. Beta didnt go down.
