A fun thought experiment; Burnout in Beta

So I would imagine when Burnout was first concepted the original design likely instantly recharged everything then people started to do obscene things.

Imagine with me that you are in closed beta before Burnout, the new tier 5 speed pool power which recharges all primary/secondary powers, was changed to primary/secondary.

How would YOU break it?


I'd like to think that
[Eye of the Magus][Drain Psyche][Inferno][Burnout] Repeat would have been insanely fun.

Supposedly it only affects Primary/Secondary powers - not accolades or temps.

And it's on a 1 hour timer, so you can't spam it.

I don't know if I could break it.

First thing that comes to mind is Phantom Army. Well, we can already make that permanent, and a second copy isn't a possibility.

Next thing is Soul Drain or Rage. We could get more stacks of it... but there is still a damage cap.

Could do neat tricks like using the AoE holds twice in a row? It'll always hold bosses... but that's what Domination or Overpower and single target holds are for, so I don't see a huge benefit here.

Godmode powers: Things like Unstoppable are pointless to stack. One with Shield or Strength of Will might be interesting. MoG could essentially be 30 seconds long and have a second application of Instant Healing.

I'm out of ideas. I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

You know, that doesn't exactly work in combat like the OP is talking about. Also, I have a character that can use Magus every 8 minutes or so.

Well there was a discussion in a scrapper thread about using it to constantly have either your tier 9 or eye of the magus up (requires recharge cap from slotting and worked only with Sr or electric), but it has since been said that burnout's recharge won't be reduceable, making it generally quite useless in my view.

Fine.

Eye of the Magus > Aim > Build Up > Rain of Fire > Melt Armor > Fire Breath > Fire Ball > Inferno > Catch a Breath (or get lucky with the Performance Shifter Proc) > Self Destruct > Rise of the Phoenix > Geas of the Kind Ones > Burnout.

Basically what I do now, but I can then perform the Hail Mary technique more than once an hour.

Also - Mission Teleport + Burnout.

Yeah back to back Power surge with powersink to leverage it was the first thing that came to my mind.

But a once per hour cool down will most likely see me skip it, especially considering how tight most of my builds already are.

I apologize in advance for my ignorance, but this is the first I've heard of Tier 5 pool powers.

Are these for real? If so, is there a list somewhere?

According to the various rumors floating around after Comic Con, they're apparently only in the travel pools. They are:
~Speed - Burnout - Instantly recharge all your powers, but costs 50 Endurance and has a very long recharge of its own (I've heard both 30 and 60 minutes, and that it can't be buffed, ala Strength of Will).
~Leaping - Don't know the name, but it's a Lightning Rod-esque attack.
~Teleport - Long-Range Teleport - Let's you immediately jump to another zone.
~Flight - Afterburners - Fly at near Superspeed levels, but you're in Only Affecting Self mode.

That is kinda long to wait for an hour for a power to recharge, hell I think 30 is to long as well. I think 10-15 would be better and keep the unbuffable recharge. The ability to use it 4 times an hour IMO would not be a bad thing. I could even see it at a 20 min recharge and use it 3 times an hour.

If it rechages all of your powers instantly outside of primary and secondary powers then yeah....10-15 min it PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE OP. But if it only does primary/secondary powers then i think 10-15 wouldnt be to bad considering most of these powers already rech pretty quickly.

In another thread, someone used the f bomb, but asterisked out, in their thread title. That expletive was vital to the story that ensued. A mod replaced the asterisked out word with phrasing that made the story incoherent. Player pouting caused the mod to replaced the expletive with 'pancake', thus restoring sense to the story and ensuring lots of 'pancake you' jokes. Then, seeing how players thought that a hoot, a mod took that a step further by replacing the auto-asterisking of naughty words with the word PANCAKE for each asterisk.

The first time I saw it, it was pretty PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE funny.

It got old pretty fast, though.

It recharges in 25 minutes anyway. Also, I usually have enough global recharge, especially with Hasten, to have it recharging about every 12 minutes.

I use build switching to recharge Assemble the Team or Self Destruction for LGTFs and Shard TFs.

Burnout would be fun on my cold/ice defender with crazy recharge already (16 second recharge on sleet) and will really shine with multiple av's like at the end of LRSF.

Aim, Infrigidate a AV, Benumb same AV, sleet, ice storm, Heat Loss, Blizzard, pop a blue, Burnout and repeat, but change av's and save 2nd heat loss after blizzard. May be able to fit in another sleet in between due to its fast recharge.

My wife and I ran are colds on a LRSF with this attack chain without the burnout of course and I have never seen the Freedom Phalanx drop so fast.

When I saw it it was a 30 minute recharge, it cost 48.5 Endurance, and had a penalty of -25% max endurance that I don't recall the duration of.

Hopefully, the order of the Endurance cost and the -25% max endurance is:

100 End - 48.5 end = 51.5 end remaining out of 75 end possible

rather than

100 end * 75% = 75 End - 48.5 end = 26.5 end remaining.

I think Hasten plus another fun power or two, BU, Burnout, BU, Nuke, pop a blue, Hasten again another couple of blue and you have about 1 min 30 of double stacked hasten to play with.

Another Tele-nuke?! My Elm-Shd will find a way to make room for it!

My Regen will be making room for Burnout for the mitigation clicks if base recharge is 30 or less, otherwise, I can shift some things around to grab SJ and the nuke to go along with Combat Jumping.

Zone TP sounds like it would be a pretty decent addition if there were not so many ways to get to different zones already.

Afterburners seems pretty lackluster compared to the other three.

EDIT: Nevermind, it doesn't.

EDIT2: Yes, it does, but not intentionally. If you switch zones between uses, it will stack.
