Here are my votes:

#1) Darth Delicious - has a very "Old School" movie feel to me, and I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff!

#2) Battlewraith - another beautifully executed piece, especially liked the tracing of the war walls spelling out the movie's name!

#3) Syrusb - cute and I love the change in tone from all the others!

Thank you very much Sakiya! That means a lot to me! I'm just happy to have been a part of things as far as I was. Rock on!

Thanks! And me too!
It's the white border . I noticed it on the 80's and 90's filmposters *giggles*.

While I'm very flattered, Zortel - I missed the deadline, so my piece is only for show - I'm ineligible in the voting.

Luckily I rated all the trailer outlines equal... So the fact I voted based solely on the art doesn't matter! (Having read none of the trailers, I find them all equally magnificent.)

Navies use warship outlines to help them identify warships encountered at sea. So I figured trailer outlines are for trailer park rangers.

Perhaps I better go back and re-read.

I knew ahead of time some people would judge based on the art alone, there's no way to disqualify anyone based on how they voted. But the trailers are a part of this month's theme, not just part of the prize, so it would be great to check out the entire project and not just the pretty stuff. It's not like any of them are very long.

And the voting is over! There is a bit of rules I have to decide how to handle. Zortel's vote is technically invalid because of their 3rd place vote, and if I were to count that one vote, it would put Darth Delicious and Battlewraith at a tie for 1st place by points, but DD would be ahead by having more 1st place votes. If I do not count that vote, Battlewraith is ahead by 1 point. I have one other option I am looking into, I will post the final decision tomorrow.

I just wanna say... thanks for voting everyone!

Also... if my calculations are right... when Z's vote would not could it would be a tie as Dee (me) also has the "early bird" vote (= 1 point).

Can't wait for the final results! This month was another great battle and a very fun theme imo!

Ahh yes, thank you for reminding me about that point. My calculations fail me once again, and congratulations DD. If I do this again, I must remember not to make the deadlines at midnight. I'll have the full results posted later this afternoon.

So it's either a tie, or it's DD ahead by one (early bird point.)

This one is so up in the air that it's anyone's guess, though I still have lingering issues with the nature of people's votes and the "Early Bird" mechanic. When it's this tight, it re-enforces the notion that it's not really a creative competition, but a race with art involved.

I believe the "early bird" rule got thown in to stimulate the artists to submit quicker in stead of waiting for (often literally) the last minute of the deadline.

As for the nature of people's votes.. it's very difficult to keep track of that and even harder to control.
Some will vote their true opinions, some will vote because they know the participants, some will vote because they got asked to, some vote purely for the art, others for the meaning of it and the rest for the combination of the last two.
The only way to settle that is to have a "neutral" jury. To find a jury like that (a jury should have atleast 3 people in it, I think), who's willing to sign on for a whole year thát's very tricky! *nods* very tricky indeed.

Congratulations DD on the win.
Glad someone else pointed out the math so I didn't have to.

Back when the early points system proposed would allow someone to jump from 3rd place to 1st just because they got their entry in sooner (ridiculous in an art contest) I would've agreed it was a race with art involved. Now "early" only being worth 1pt and open to all not just the first posted entry I would say it's an art contest with a racing component added.
A fine distinction perhaps but relevant.

Next year if/when someone else wants to host I'm sure they'll have their own ideas on how they think it should be done as well
and it would be good to have discussion like this early (maybe even before the contest starts ) so we can
come up with a fair system that keeps things interesting but maintains it's focus on the art.

If there were anyway to control the nature of people's votes I don't think it would be much of a contest.
*pulls out pocket watch on a chain and swings it back and forth* You are getting very sleeeeepy... you will vote for monkieees...

The best thing I could suggest is to try and get a larger segment of the forums in on the voting somehow.
Sheer volume of votes would keep any one element from having too much sway on the final score
and larger numbers of interested people checking out the contest would be even more
inspiring for those taking the time to create the artz.

While a small group jury with a consistent set of criteria would get a more
proper result it would exclude the majority of the forums from
participating. Many might just tune out altogether.

I have apparently forgotten to post this due to my overwhelming use of copy/paste, but in my other contests in the AE boards that use the exact same voting method, the way I would decide a tie breaker is the one who got the most first place votes. And Zortel's vote was not counted because of the incorrect third place vote. In this case it is Darth Delicious with 7 first place votes, 4 second place votes, 2 third place votes, and 1 early bird point. Battlewraith came in a close second with 6 first place votes, 6 second place votes, and 2 third place votes. Liz came in third with 1 first place vote, 5 second place votes, and 6 third place votes. Christopher Robin came in fourth with 1 first place vote and 4 third place votes. Graph breakdown below.

As far as the "Early Bird" points, I disagree that it creates a situation where the art doesn't matter as much as getting it in early. In this case, it made a difference between winning and coming in second place. Almost every month, Darth Delicious has put her art up early and it's paid off. Is the art worse for having been done early? Apparently the voters don't think so. Of all the things I've tried in this year's FArt contest, I think the one that worked out the best was the early bird incentive.

Gratz DD, well done.

Bubba--

I don't see any point in continuing this competition. Between this year and last year's competition I haven't won any theme, despite putting in considerable effort to do so. I've really come to the conclusion that this isn't the community where I should be trying to focus my efforts. Thanks to everyone that voted for me and please continue to follow my work on Deviantart.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I completely understand. Every month you have submitted you've done an amazing job and have usually been near the top of the voting, and I didn't realize that you never managed to nab the top spot. From day one, you've brought your A game... and I just went back and looked through all the months. I didn't realize how low you placed some months even though you've always produced a top notch piece of art. I think you're right that for whatever reason, it just never clicks with the FArt battle voting community. My favorite pieces through the months are Scratch from January, and The Magician tarot card from June.

I think BW is right to withdraw. It's been clear that this has been more of a popularity contest than a real creative contest, which is fine. Just not the place that really deserves so much effort.
