Congratulations DD! On a lovely entry and a well-deserved win!
Congratulations to all the other entrants, too, for wonderful, creative & enjoyable works well above and beyond the the average crowd!
Give yourselves a BIG round of applause! You've all earned it!
I wish you ALL well wherever you go and whatever you do.
I'm a little sad that my poorly timed/mistaken after-deadline entry helped nudge things a little into conflict, and for that I'm profusely sorry.
But - in spite of the Real Life junk (Mothers-in-Law make me crazy sometimes!) that has to take precedence over my art time, I am really glad I got to be a part of this contest and this place. I hope to be able to hang around here for a goodly bit more, too.
I've been doing some personal research (and soul searching) and from what I hear - for artists - an 'artists community' is an important thing. But ups and downs, conflicts, doubts, real questions about Expectations, Approval, and Acceptance are all part and parcel of the 'Artist's Struggle.'
(and maybe it might be a good idea to build some additional roots in other artistic communities AS WELL as this one. More supports are better than just one)
or I could just be talkin' in my hat, ya never kno!
(I'm not gone yet!) -

Thanks for the kind words DeeDee and Airhead! And I'll still be around (I gotta see who WINS this thing!
)
(insert popcorn eating icon here) -
Here are my votes:
#1) Darth Delicious - has a very "Old School" movie feel to me, and I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff!
#2) Battlewraith - another beautifully executed piece, especially liked the tracing of the war walls spelling out the movie's name!
#3) Syrusb - cute and I love the change in tone from all the others!

Quote:Ah, now I'm embarrassed!Nice to see an entry. Unfortunately, the extra time is only two days - which was over last night at midnight. I've been pretty lenient... ok extremely lenient in the earlier months, but have said that I will be more strict in the elimination months.
What I will do, however, is add your entry to the voting for this month's prize - with the 2 1/2 day voting disadvantage. It's been great to see your art every month, you're one of the artists that have made a big jump from their first pieces to their later pieces. In my own tiredness, when I was reading the rules for the deadline ALL TOO QUICKLY I saw the part about "Voting will begin by Wednesday July 27th" and mistakenly thought THAT was the Deadline and not the previous line where the ACTUAL deadline of TUESDAY the 26th was written.
MY BAD!!!Thats what I get to ..I dunno, sumthin!
So, no worries - and no need to put me in the vote or anything! I am HAPPILY and OFFICIALLY out and thats fine! Carry on - all good! -
Quote:Well, in a freak of luck (??) I got the chance to squeeze in some hours tonight that I wasn't supposed to get. Its still pretty ugly, but HEY - if you need somebody to to eliminate this month - I'm ALL OVER that! Was super tired and went to bed early last night. There will not be an elimination unless either Defiance Jones or Airhead submit an entry within the extended deadline using their points. I'll have the vothing thread and next month's theme posted later this afternoon when I get home from work.
So if I use the "Just a little more time" thing, (which I do have points for) then you can stick me in, and then vote me off the island all fair and square! Either way, its kinda fun:

Synapse: Yech! Who's turn was it to make the coffee?!?!
Statesman turns with his arms out, shrugging in dismay: What's wrong with it?
Synapse: Dude! That is THE WORST Coffee. EVER!
Statesman: Oh come on, it can't be THAT bad!
Synapse: Wanna Bet?
Cut to a Vahzilok Cadaver barfing.

Cut to Lord Recluse's Lair, where L.R. Himself watches Statesman on a secret monitor while Ghost Widow lounges next to him.
Lord Recluse: Ha HA! I, Lord Recluse, must get there FIRST, and prove MY worthiness to the disembodied voice FIRST and thus DEPRIVE that simpering simpleton Statesman of this victory!! AHHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Ghost Widow, as she dumps out her own cup of coffee: Thahnk GOODness, DAHling! Maybe then we'll fahnly be able to haves a decent cup of coffee around here!

Quote:Well, it really doesn't look like I'll have ANY drawing time until the weekend (cringe) and I'd hate to make everybody waitWas super tired and went to bed early last night. There will not be an elimination unless either Defiance Jones or Airhead submit an entry within the extended deadline using their points. I'll have the vothing thread and next month's theme posted later this afternoon when I get home from work.

just a note, its highly likely that I will not make the deadline this time due to real life (again
). Its okay, tho - it was never about winning, even tho I massively appreciate the votes (they continue to give me a warm feeling inside!). I just wanted to compete and improve - and I did!
If I manage to get something at least post-worth by an hour before D.L. I'll post it. If not, I'll post after just for fun. (and, honestly - I did start weeks ago - but got stopped cold by things out here that don't wait for fan art, 'cha kno?)
I thank you all for the encouragement, for the great art, and especially you Bubba for running this contest in spite of all the grief!
May the best art win - but you're all winners in my book! -
Wwow. Its like a nuclear bomb went off and I am struck deaf by awesomeness!
ANOTHER amazing entry that brings the super-art-sauce!
Whoooof!Well done, BattleWraith!
-
DeeDee! Daaaaaaaaaaaaaayng! Jaw-dropping entry!
That's a wonderful (and intimidatingly good) entry! Whoooooooof!
Very well done!
Dang! -
-
(so totally struggling to NOT say "Can I have Airhead's points then?"
)
-
Welcome back Bubbawheat! (I certainly know how disrupting a move can be!)
Congratulations on the Win, Liz!
but very sad to see Tartyrsauce get eliminated
(and, NO, Foo, you didn't win - this time)
-
There's still almost 30 minutes left to get your votes in, people!
-
Chris Farley
Is a good choice for the part Of Statesman -
Okay, I believe I've got the idea I want to try and do for this theme (while driving to the grocery store to buy milk, cereal, and salad makings - and no, it doesn't have anything to do with milk, cereal, or salad makings!
). Gonna try and start gettin' pencil-to-paper on it today, while I've got some time.
-
Thanks for posting this! Gonna try it out!
-
erg! this is TOUGH! Everyone 'brought it' this month!
Here's my votes:
1st: Liz - captivatingly purple set!
2nd: Battlewraith - the gun IS a three-hole punch!
3rd: Airhead's "Ten of Pentacles" (made me laugh!) -
Whew! With almost a half hour to spare!
(and Whoof! Those are some REALLY nice entries! (Airhead's made me laugh
) Here's my entry:
Here's the link to the DeviantArt page with it: http://defiance-jones.deviantart.com/#/d3k7sk3 -

Congrats to Liz!
edit: and also to Lady Judgement & Lousy Day, too!
And I'd never in a million years have guessed #3 was Lousy Day!
And yeah, looking at it, mine was pretty easy to guess (and pretty sloppy, too!) - I was going for having everyone wearing those comedic fake glasses with the big, plastic nose, bushy eyebrows and mustache (apparently "Groucho Glasses"? after Groucho Marx) that I always see in comedies as the most obvious, cheap "disguise" worn by utterly clueless wannabe-spies.
Thanks again for each and everyone who voted for me! It really gives me a little warm glow inside! Thanks WingedMurasaki, Caemgen, panthera, airhead, LadyJudgement, ddgryphon, syrusb, PatrickAT!
-
I love the variety of entries this month! Very tough to pick, but here are My votes (and some guesses):
1st place: Artist #2 ( who may be ? SyrusB/Liz ?)
2nd place: Artist #5 (who may be ? Tartyrsause ?)
3rd place: Artist #3 (who may be ? Christopher Robin ?)
and maybe Artist #1 is ? Darth Delicious ?
anyway, Best of luck everyone! -
Congratulations Lousy Day! and Liz & Christopher Robin, too! and everybody, really!
(and Thank you! Jophiel, LadyJudgement, Ephemeris, WingedMurasaki, and syrusb, for the votes of confidence! I surely do appreciate them!)

Quote:Okay - so, this means that we should *not* put our signatures on the pieces?4. Anonymous theme: This month's theme is Anonymous, this is twofold. The piece should represent the "anonymous" theme somehow. Also, all the pieces will be submitted directly to me so I can post them anonymously. The artists' names will be attributed to their pieces after the voting is over. Many of you may have a recognizable style, so this is your chance to try something new. There is no penalty for sticking with your natural style if you prefer, of course.
hmm. Wait, so, by "Anonymous" you're thinking of the artist being unidentifiable? (See, I was thinking it referred to the hero and villain characters who try to conceal their identities or something along the lines that since almost everyone in the game is a costumed hero or villain, then they're all kind of indistinguishable from one-another)
rats. Not that I had a great idea yet or anything, but now I'munna have to think even harder! (not a bad thing, tho!)

Quote:what's funny is that, while I didn't read the month's rules closely enough to remember the *actual* deadline (D'OH!), I was *this close* to panicking and using the "70 points: Saved" option! Then I thought: "erg! I still got a few hours til deadline, Lemme see if I can scramble together enough of an entry together" Of course, at the time I was thinking that, I had already missed the deadlineSounds good to me, these current late-comers will be docked 5 points. And remember, starting in June, you can use 15 points to submit past the deadline.
! Ah well.
Clearly I need to: 1) drink a bit more coffee, 2) read through the rules more closely, and 3) work faster!
Still, lose or get DQ'd - I'm enjoying the contest, and I thank you for running it, Bubba!
Together!
