As for the design process, I don't see him asking people to do layouts or such, just mainly what actors they thing would make good models for characters? Personally I see that as little more than an artist asking someone else what shade or red makes the blood look bloodier in a picture...

2. It says **maybe** as in no guarantees I will use anything in this thread.
3. What about all the people who wanted in my past entries but didn't make it? Were they then ungrateful come voting time? That number far exceeds the the few that did get in so if what you say is true this would be a losing strategy.
4. It's not the first time I've used other forumites in my entries... why object now?
5. Even a half-hearted search through past entries turns up almost a half dozen examples of other artists using other forumites characters... and that's JUST in 2010 alone.
6. Heck the championship piece from 2009 that won it for the Foo was practically a "hey how many other peoples characters can I get into my piece before the deadline." Literally.
7. In the past artists have even drawn the host/moderator/judge's characters into their entries (anyone remember how much art Thor's Assassin got of himself when he hosted in 2008?) and no one objected then (cept maybe the people who wished they were getting all the free art).
8. There are even past examples of forum artists using other forum artist's artwork (including one of your pieces) depicting other people's characters incorporated into their entries.
etc etc etc I could go on and on and there are so many examples I could give, have you been paying attention to the entries at all?
People were doing this long before I joined the contest (and throughout my time in it as well) so why object now? And why to me?

However this is the first time I remember someone at the start of a month's theme opening a thread to solicit input from forumgoers on how to do their entry. If you use artistic reference in a work, you are making value judgements in the process of picking. The recent piece I did for Kaemgen used Pam Grier as reference. That was a significant choice. Had I picked someone else, the piece would be much different. So here's a thread where you are overtly asking other people who you should use, as well as having them supply you with ref.

And, even if CR did choose other people's characters, or used their actor/ess references for canon characters, he still has to think of the plot, draw the poster, and do well enough As An Artist, to garner the praise and votes of the masses.
What are you complaining about? That you didn't think of it yourself? That CR is harnessing the ideas of others, to help stimulate his own creativity?
I'm sorry, I don't see what the problem is. Heck, you can read the this thread, yourself, and get ideas.

Even BubbaWheat posted two refs in that thread.
I'm sure there are others this was just the first that popped to my mind (because it's mine and very recent).
Oh and if you care to notice I didn't end up using anything from that thread I went with my own character in the end.
Also I am not asking for people to tell me how to do my entry (where do you get that silliness from?) I'm asking
for them to put up their suggestions for who they think would make good actors for their characters and for notable NPC's.
I might not agree with any of them. One of the other artists might get an idea from this thread... etc etc

Lol yes indeed I forgot that you have already done it in this competition. But i don't remember people submitting celebrity likeness with the specific characters. I believe that's a significant difference in terms of rendering a character.

Gross exaggeration. This is not a formal art contest. They are not professional judges or art critics judging me based on uniform criteria.
They are people voting for what they like. The only real judge/host/overseer hasn't objected and has in fact participated in these threads in the past.
Even if it were true (it isn't) that all the people posting here vote in the FArt (several haven't/don't) do you honestly think that if I went with say PeeWee Herman for Lord Recluse as a comedy movie poster that it would somehow force Caemgen to vote for me? What about all the others who's ideas I didn't use? Would they all be forced to vote against me? Is the absurdity apparent?
Clearly I made the mistake of doing this in public (ohnoz!) where anyone else can steal an idea from the "judges" and all the guaranteed votes that will surely follow thereby defeating my ebil plan.

That's not all you're forgetting but I haven't the time for/see no reason to go digging for the rest.
You are asking people for input on what likenesses to use in your piece. Deciding who to use is part of doing the entry.

Asking for input and making my own decision are not mutually exclusive things.

but I think you should take a step back and think about it. Good luck in the competition.
You should really try that yourself. So far the things you are claiming for the most part either have happened many times prior without your objection or never really happen at all.
Perhaps you have some concept of how an art contest should work and this is not living up to your expectation (Zod knows it's not following my idea of how a contest should work either) if so I really wish you had spoken up sooner... and over something more substantial.

P.S. If you see something in this thread that gives you an idea feel free to use it (ask first if it's Shieldara please) I don't think anyone will object.

Though the image/post was deleted, I stand by my Denise Richards as Swan idea.
So I have a basic idea for July but not sure really who I will include on the poster. On the one hand I would like to have
known characters people can recognize/relate to like the Freedom Phalanx but on the other I wouldn't
mind something more creative/interesting than the default cast everyone expects.
So that's where you guys come in, help me come up with a great cast list and who they
might be acted by and maybe score a cameo for one of your characters.
So post a decent photo of of an actor/actress and say what NPC character they would be great for in a City of Heroes movie
and then post up a ref one of your heroes (mainly looking for heroes but a great villain/praetorian
idea might work too) and a pic of what actor/actress might play them.
Random example:

and I think my character Shieldara
could be played by Meagan Good
