What will you miss from Galaxy City?

I suggested that in the beta section - the new phasing tech could possibly allow Heroes and Villains to share a zone without it being co-op or PvP - enemy players would simply be hidden from view - that way, Villains could help Arachnos loot the ruins of Galaxy City and try and stop the rebuilding work, and Heroes could help Longbow secure the area and try and find all the items that must have been lost when the M.A.G.I. vault was hit, and neither side would need to team up or fight each other - and they could even add some of the generic Heroes and Villains from the radio and Tip misisons as EBs in the zone to help give the impression that the other side was still there.

What will I miss about it? Everything, really. Several years ago, a forum poster started a thread questioning why Galaxy City even existed - from the standpoint of a new player experience, this poster felt that it was redundant with Atlas Park and it split the player base needlessly instead of funneling new players together as it "should" be.

My response at the time was a sort of mini-essay that analyzed Atlas Park and Galaxy City as the thematic "poles" of the city. Yin-yang, male-female, active-passive. Whether it's the back-story, the atmosphere, or something else, there are many people who have an attachment to Galaxy City whereas I have hardly ever heard of anyone forming an emotional attachment to Atlas Park.

Unfortunately, Atlas is iconic of the game and, as Joss Whedon likes to prove again and again, you get a lot more dramatic mileage out of killing something that the audience cares about.

People, devs included, who say "Well, just take a story mission in Ouroboros and you can visit the old zone whenever you want" are people who really just don't "get" it. The loss is not about badges. Galaxy City is as much about Galaxy Girl and her part in the story of Paragon City as it is about an alternative to spam in Atlas Park. It's about being connected to a living, breathing part of the history of the game world and about feeling like some part of the city is actually "home". For whatever reason, this is something that they never succeeded at doing with Atlas Park; at least not for me.

Atlas Park is "downtown" where Galaxy City is "old town". In an ideal world, we'd have both. However - The devs today seem to agree with the poster I mentioned, that the new player experience should be streamlined and funnel everyone into a single space. It's too bad. I'll miss the place.
Here here. I'm very unhappy with this change, but I guess I'll need to live with it. I definitely agree with everything you say, especially GC's backstory, which is amazing and brings tears to my eyes to read it.

Long live the memory of Galaxy Girl!

I have nothing against Galaxy City being repurposed as a tutorial, I'm just bugged by YET ANOTHER alien invasion intro to a superhero game.

...

I redacted the rest of this post because I realized it was against forum rules, but you can guess where I was going with it. The original tutorial may not have been exciting, but there's no need to ape lesser efforts in this superior game.

Possible, but i think this would require more resources as they currently did in Atlas regarding the phasing - To hide even the other players from the other side along with their NPC's and their phasing. Thing is, they did it with Atlas Park because it's kind of a place -everyone- knows and people meet up there for whatever reasons ... costume contests, roleplay, etc.
Galaxy City was always behind Atlas Park regarding popularity, but i do hope it won't be fully forgotten now.

Or worse, it could end up as a Boomtown v2.

But now Galaxy City is famous - everyone starts there
Returning there to help or sabotage the rebuilding will have more impact on players than doing the same thing in Boomtown.

What's left of it, that is, yeah.
Yet i do hope the hazard zones will get more attention after i21, as there is alot of potential in some of them. (Dark Astoria, for example.)

Second Measue said at SDCC that the next zone to get revamped is one that's been suggested only a couple of times on the forums - so that rules out Boomtown, Dark Astoria and the Shadow Shard

The next logical one would be Kings Row, where they could really use the new graphics to great effect to make the zone into our very own Gotham

Steel Canyon, Skyway City and Talos Island are also posssible targets for the next zone revamp.

Now that I've seen the new tutorial 'zone', which they should have called 'Generic Ruined City Map's Last Stand', I'll miss Galaxy as we have it now.

Boomtown is a ruined ZONE. The new tutorial isn't.

Eco.

Every time I've started in Galaxy City I've regretted it, because everything is linked to Atlas.

The RWZ, the costume contests...

I will miss the old town feel, though.
