Stalkers won't be getting Titan Weapons will they?

In fact, I specifically recall it being said many in the dev community said it didn't make sense, and many players who didn't think it made sense.
But then of course, there's always players who want many things that don't tend to make sense, or can make sense, but limits the concepts a lot of such sets.

Was there ever an explanation as to why that reasoning was only applied to Shield Defense and not highly visible sets like Electric Armour or Energy Aura?

The Stalker random crit scaling mechanism would beg to differ. It REWARDS us for huddling together. So what exactly is "wrong" with Shields doing the same then?
Too bad your ideology ignores balance in general.
I think the 'theme' you're referring to is 'Shield's theme' which is 'a phalanx fighter' or 'a soldier part of a pod'. Stalkers are lone assassin's that take opportunistic strikes, they're not sitting ducks waiting to be shot at. That's basically what Shields is: huddle together, bunker down and tear up anything that gets near. That's not Stalker. |

I'm less mobile in the sense that I can't really keep up with a medium-to-fast speed team if I'm relaxing and tabbing through targets while waiting for my status to change back to Hidden. I prefer to participate in a more... umm.. aggressive way. I know I'm only going to get 1 or 2 Hidden-status-induced crits per spawn (if they last that long) - the 1st charging in and the 2nd after a placate and that's ok with me. The rest of the time I'm shoulder-to-shoulder with the other melee types taking advantage of my team buff because that's the more important thing to me than trying to get off the guaranteed crits.
You see? You're not 'less' mobile because hide takes long to kick back in, you *need* to be mobile so that you draw less aggro and, when done killing your target(s), you can relax while you tab through the targets to pick out another juicy one. If you sit around in the middle of a group on a team, things will take pot-shots at you. If you fight on the fringes, only those in proximity of your attacks will bother noticing you. If you move around, things might look your way and shoot at you, but most foes will forget you're even there afterwards. Ducking behind something/someone while you stick it to your nearby target will *force* those that are looking at you to *run* to you. They'll probably forget you're there after running across a debuff patch or through someone's taunt aura. And that's if you're just playing defensively.

I could go on about team tactics with stalkers but I find it hard to believe others don't already know them better than I do, including how to use AS in a team, and it's getting a little far from the original topic. Suffice to say that I don't think the Titan Weapons should be withheld from stalkers based on some imagined limitation of stalker play style and the momentum mechanic. There might be other good reasons to keep them from stalkers, but that isn't one of them.
It was always a B.S. reason. A shield stalker doesn't hide behind his shield any more than a Regen stalker hides by... regenerating? That doesn't even make sense. Ironically, a few of the customizations for Shields do a better job explaining Hide that other Stalker secondaries do. Seen that dark energy shield? Or even a tech shield containing a cloaking device?

Well if you initiate AS like any other attack it doesn't matter if your target is 10 feet away when it completes, the AS hits. Only difference is that you got to stop for half a sec (or less) before clicking AS. Never bothered me. And I use AS in the middle of fights all the time even on my Elec/Regen with purple insps, but well I use purples on my brutes, my blasters when solo or aggroing a lot of mobs, more than I use them on my Stalkers no matter the secondary.
IMHO stalkers are less mobile then the other sets.. they gotta stand still for assassin's strike. Heck, sometimes you fail AS because the target walks away to fast.
I see stalkers in general being a fun and unique concept that just never did play out right. |
That said, despite liking Stalkers I totally agree with you on the second paragraph.

It ensures the devs get more money, since it will be a powerset one has to buy, to make it available to those who want to play just Stalkers. |
Interesting concept.
F2P comes in likes the idea of a stalker, spends money to get a cool powerset, levels it up and finds out the whole at is a lol ?
Also applies to blasters, when the f2per starts out enjoying their toon and finds out they just die off after 20.
Edit: Well maybe zone PvP will be big in I21

Does that help you?
Same works for Electric Armor.

And no, it doesn't help.

You the player see it, the in game characters don't.
Really, how hard is that to understand?
Did everyone used to consider that their REGENS glowed green anytime they used the powers?
Of course they didn't. They knew it was just a visual cue that they had used a power.

Yeah, I totally understand it. I've played an /EA stalker (second biggest mistake of my life) and followed very closely to that idea.

My justification is that "Hide" isn't a part of the stalkers defenses. It's just what a stalker is: a very hard to see person. Whether he dodges lots of things or protects himself with energy, he's still hard to see.
My big issue is that if a Stalker can hide while using powers that usually make you glow like a light bulb, they sure as hell can hide with a shield on their arm.

I dont have a single non-tanker character that is softcapped to any defense. It is not necessary to play this game.
Why do you suppose stalkers get all of those other attacks in their "assassin strike" powerset? I wonder if the devs thought we might stick around and use more than just BU, AS, placate, run away? You really should try playing a stalker once. They aren't as awful as you make them sound. |
And on top of that they fit the rogue playstyle, which one can assume that's what they aimed for in the first place. To be honest, it's the first time I picked up a Rogue-esque class in any MMO in general and completely changed my opinion on how I'd see a scout in later titles.
There's a few beefs I have with the archtype, even though it's my favorite, but it has to do with it's lack of survivability when it's actions are foiled. They need to be harder to strike in terms of To-Hit bonuses mobs can get, something to make them nimble. Problem I have in end-game, where normally by then a Stalker is a pseudo-tank at that point, is that the mobs stack so many debuffs and to-hit capabilities that they chew through you like tissue paper - scrappers on the other hand don't necessarily have to worry. My /WP Stalker dies even with Tier 9 activated, mobs just doesn't give crap.

Good to know, since my Stalkers are always in the thick of things I never noticed that. Maybe happened to me, but well since it's a melee AT it'd have to happen a lot for me to notice.

That got me interested tho. I used my ice/psi dom countless times to pull the AVs in LRSF, I managed to do single pulls most of the time with the occasional double using my snipe. I used superspeed+stealth IO, initiated the snipe, and since the psi snipe has a long travel time before hitting unlike others, when it hit some AV I was already behind the wall and safe with my team. Isn't that breaking line of sight? Shouldn't the snipe miss all the time then? I know it didn't. Or maybe Psi Lance is different than Blazing Bolt that does the damage the instant the animation finishes and Psi Lance does the second to-hit check when you release it, which is a good time before it gets to the target?

Ranged Snipes only make 1 LOS check. it's only Assassin attacks that make 2. I believe the reason for this was PvP balance since when Stalkers were first introduced an Assassin Strike killed anything that wasn't a Tank. So 2 LOS checks for balance. Of course that was before PvP could follow separate rules.
Personally I think half the imbalances with Stalkers in PvE are a result for how powerful they were in PvP.
Stalkers didn't get Shield Defense because Castle thought it was retarded concept to hide behind the shield. While I agree there are ways around that thought process.
