Time for a new scrapper

Having only taken less than two weeks to get my main man, BZB, up to t4/t4/t3/t3/t3 on incarnate stuff, I decided to see what else I could make that would be fun to play from 1 to 53 again.

After a few failed starts with other ATs and powersets, I'm to have settled on the following.

Kinetica Jane: Kinetic Melee / Shield Defense Scrapper.

I have no build planned. I'm not asking for one. Just sharing with the class. I may respond back to this thread over time with her progress, but here's what she looks like now:

I made one of those too. Quatermain has a KM/Fire that makes me doubt my choice, but I plan to stick with it ... eventually. Right now I'm busy working on "incarnating" my existing 50s ... all 10 of em. >.> (Half way done!)

Blue
American Steele: 50 BS/Inv
Nightfall: 50 DDD
Sable Slayer: 50 DM/Rgn
Fortune's Shadow: 50 Dark/Psi
WinterStrike: 47 Ice/Dev
Quantum Well: 43 Inv/EM
Twilit Destiny: 43 MA/DA
Red
Shadowslip: 50 DDC
Final Rest: 50 MA/Rgn
Abyssal Frost: 50 Ice/Dark
Golden Ember: 50 SM/FA

She has a nice Chun-li feel going.

Have fun.

I look forward to seeing what a top end KM/SD is capable of (don't remember seeing many KM/SD pylon times).

I would think it would be about as good as KM/Fire at applying ouchies to varmints. AAO is kinda sorta like FE, and shield charge is a lot like burn if you squint. Shield gets a little more variety in IOing than fire too, I bet you could grab a considerable amount of +hp en route to softcap.

I'd certainly recommend KM/Fire (and likely also KM/Shield) to anyone who's looking for "that special scrapper," KM seems really underplayed in general for the amount of damage it is capable of pumping out.

I just rolled a KM/SR and I am having a blast even though its only lvl 14. Happy Hunting!

Same (except level 37). With Billz coming from a life of Bruting, I expect he'll enjoy the Power Siphon mini-game as much as I am.

Rolled a KM/Fire myself recently, holy smokes the DPS potential of it all.

Went for km/regen recently. Damn that epic kat/regen thread.

Looking forward to borrowing ideas from this one too, ha!

Hit level 10. This is without a doubt the slowest scrapper I've ever played. We'll see how well it ramps up at 12. Granted, part of the slowness may be due to starting in Praetoria.

Yeah, Praetoria feels a lot slower than playing on Primal earth for me as well. Good luck with your scrapper though. KM is a fun set and Shield is just good regardless :P
My live is a KM/Elec but I played a 50 KM/SD on test before and even on just SOs it was quite a fun toon to play with.

Praetoria tends to slow everyone down. And KM tends to feel slower, regardless of actual numbers.

Weirdly, even though Praetoria "feels" slower, I found that any alts that can survive the missions decently seem to level much faster.

I agree on the KM bit - even though the animations aren't actually "that long", somehow the look of them makes them feel even longer.

I took a Praetorian KM/Elec to 40, and it was decent, but I just don't like /elec much from a survivability standpoint. I do need a /shield scrapper, so maybe KM/Shield... looking forward to seeing what you can do with it BillZ.

The problem I have with KM/Shield is that you seem to lose some of the KM flavour with one handed animations.

I always felt like Praetoria was faster for me. Shorter storyarcs, but the same amount of arc xp at the end. Shorter travel times. I always feel like I get to 20 alot faster since GR came out.

Having a KM/WP, I will vouch for KM feeling slow to start. I think it's because it's attacks don't hit particularly hard until CS, even though they have decent DPA. Just started a new MA/WP praetorian as my new main (hopefully I can stick with this one!) and she rocketed through the early levels thanks to all the recent MA changes.

I just couldn't get on mine.. been stuck at level 19 for some time now.
I think I'll probably just go with my original plan and roll him as KM/FA

It's both. I wasn't a fan of km, I'd like to hear your take on it after about 30-35 lvls.

Anyone know why repulsing torrent doesn't add to power siphon buffs but burst does?

Because the devs wanted to give us one more reason to skip it.

I'm already skipping confront, focused burst and grant cover. After I get shield charge I'll dump RT but that's a long way off.

Don't want Grant Cover for the added DDR?

I would skip repulsing and take focused burst, to be honest. That thing hits pretty hard and it's ranged. That's like choosing shockwave over focus. Matter of fact, that's exactly what you are doing. Feel free but we all have different tastes.

For the non-leveling up build I wouldn't skip out on Grant Cover.

When I was making my Kinetic Melee character I decided I wanted either KM/Inv or KM/SD. I ended up going for KM/Inv. Haven't played the character much though.

I don't exactly know why, but I know it was deliberately set that way in beta and declared working as intended.
