Returning Player looking for active SG (Now with more Spoon!))

Hey guys, thought I would drop a thread here. I saw the stickies up top, but noticed some of them are a few months old and a couple of them I couldn't seem to contact the people listed.

Here is my conundrum, I'm a pretty active player (this being my chief hobby as of late) but the guys who convinced me to come back and give COH another try are really being inconsistent and while I've been working my way back up and trying different builds and the like, I find my number one issue is that I lack a solid foundation and that makes my interest wane, but figuring out a solid SG to even apply to is difficult. Part of it is me, I've not made enough attempts to be personable enough in game, part of it is the insular nature of SGs, and part of it is the fact a lot of things are established in a community this old. So, this is me trying to reach out and find a similar group of like minded folks.

About me: I'm an older guy, generally a working professional with a wife and all that jazz. I'm extremely laid back about things in game, as in, drama, loot drops, what-he-said-she-said-they-said-about-him, stuff like that doesn't bother me. I love the changes to COH, I was so pleasantly surprised at how well things were going in game, how great it looks, feels and all that. I really enjoy making characters and playing characters with concepts and back stories and enjoy playing the game in character and having a good time with the whole genre of MMO. However, I don't really enjoy doing this solo. I'd rather play a terrible power set on a character concept I love with people I enjoy the game with, than be the "ultimate-pwnerer-farmer-9000" solo.

What I am looking for: I'm looking for an active SG, that enjoys moderate+ RP. I like playing the game in character, accept when I can't and have to OOC and do not understand nor will I ever understand vampire-kitty-schoolgirl ERP. I say active in that, I'd really like to log in and not be alone, I'd like to be able to log in and find teams for all this stuff that has acronyms I don't understand yet, or help people out with stuff. I am extremely easy going in that regard. However, no offense to anyone in a 3 man SG they love to death, but that is exactly my problem right now, I have a blast when my buddies want to play the game, but just spend my time making costumes in the editor when they don't.

What I can do for you: I'm an adult, with adult money, time and effort. I put way too much time and energy into stuff like this, but I enjoy MMOs, I am really enjoying being back in COH and I really want to find an active group of like minded players to enjoy it with. I have several character concepts I think I can play decently, some better than others, but I am willing to invest time into making a character that fits a specific SG concept, so long as it's not someone's alt SG where everyone logs on once a week and plays their <insert theme here> characters for 2 hours. I'd really like a chance to build a character from the ground up and grow him within a community. I'm not in a rush to get an account full of 50's and sit around atlas sipping tea and discussing the finer points of "pattern 6" in the character editor. (it's the best one for a shield background btw)

Honestly, I am looking for a community to join, rather than some random SG spamming my un-sg'd characters in Atlas park that won't have anyone online in a week anyway. I feel like community is the foundation of good gameplay and I would really love to be part of an active community of adults who enjoy this for what it is, a hobby. (where we get to wear capes and beat up purse snatchers)

I love this post! I wish I could help out, but sadly I'm in kinda the same boat. I LOVE RP. It's what's kept me in CoH over the years.

But the people I've RPd with are gone or going or what have you and the SGs I'm in aren't consistently active. Not to knock them at all because it's great when they're around and our times mesh, but outside of that, things are quiet both in game and on forums.

I love writing and building a character and seeing where she grows. But as of late, I've found that wanting on the unofficial RP server in the US. So much so that I'm seriously pondering trying out the Union server as they seem to have it much more together.

Anywho, don't wanna hijack your thread. If you do find something, gimme a shout out. I'm @Tanklet.

First of all, welcome back! Secondly, while I'll leave it to others to suggest some good, active SGs, I will say that you're always welcome to look me up in-game (@Major James Ashe) when you hit those "I want to smash things, but not by myself" moments. I'm on far too often, and have alts in just about every level range.

Well glad to know there are others out there. If no SGs are actively recruiting, we may one day have to gather up all the singles here on the forums who feel left out and make a new SG.

Still, I'd hope some of the more established SGs might be willing to give us all a go, I don't see how having more consenting adults around could be a bad thing. Wait...that sounds like something.....hmmm....never mind.

If you're looking for a Golden/Silver Age Theme RP group, the Golden Age Heroes are always looking for good folks. They have an adult hero branch (Think JSA/JLA), a young team branch (Teen Titans type), and a reformed villain branch (Think Thunderbolts) if you have characters that fit the overall Golden/Silver Age classic hero team.

Where are people gathering for roleplay. There used to be RPers hanging out in the park in Galaxy almost 24-7, but since I rejoined the game after five years gone, I've never found a single character there.

Did bases send all of the RPers into private supergroup space?

You could look in on our VirtueVerse page. Ours is a bit of an oddball concept (no vampire-kitties, just less of a standard CoH feel) so you may or may not find that it appeals to you.

The problem with VirtueVerse is that it NEVER gets cleaned out so we have groups that are literally dead still listed under the recruiting tab, I know because I was apart of one of those groups and everyone has since left. So it is hard to find a group that is still around, still recruiting, and meets your character concept.

I mean, I am not picky about character concepts because I am not loyal to any of my characters. My name sake I ONLY RP with my wife and a couple of close friends but I only play him when they are online. Other than that I have a number of characters that run the range from Hero, to Vigilante, to Villain, to Rogue, and everything in between. I have a couple of free character slots I picked up when they were on sale so I am more than willing to ROLL a new character to play in any group.

Yet I still have trouble finding groups. A lot of the more popular blue side groups I have issue with OOC and so I can't really join them and get into this massive network of connections everyone seems to have. Smaller groups are hard to find because...they are smaller, probably only having between five and twelve active members to begin with. It makes things very difficult when you are looking specifically for a small but dedicated group with which to play. I don't mind big groups but I DO hate the inevitable drama that comes with them.

Just re-opened the doors of the Dawn of Darkness if you have any magic-y villains.
