I need the help of the scrapper forums gurus. My main is MA/SD, and I've recently been farming my buns off to make some cash so I can make a decent build. I still don't have "LOL PURPLEZ" type money, but I have my 5 LOTG, can afford any other non-purple set and ought to be able to fit one or two purple sets on my build soon. So with that in mind, I need help devising a solid LVL 50, trial/high end TFs/TIPs type build. I don't PVP and I don't generally run low lvl stuff and when I do I have a build that gets the job done. My biggest questions for the guys in the know are:
1) What Epic Power Pool do you think is most worth it? Conceptually I took Caltrops and Exploding Shuriken, and while I can get a nice IO set in the Shuriken, I'm totally at a loss as to what optimal is in the EPP.
2) Is it possible to be end efficient w/o taking the end Alpha? I have cardiac now (T3, hoping for a VR one day) I'd like the damage one or spiritual but I can barely keep my end up now running all the toggles I do.
3) If you could pick 2 purple sets, which ones would you pick and where would you put them in a MA/SD set?
Thanks for reading guys, and any thoughts comments are much appreciated. I'm at the point where I feel like my build is solid, it gets the job done, but it is far from optimal. -
Quote:I'd argue that there is a difference between actively recruiting and being open to recruitment. If there were lots of SGs actively recruiting, I'd have had more contact with them by now. Truth is more akin to a couple post up where the poster pointed out the insular nature of the game. I'm not knockin' it, but it is true. There is the sticky up at the top of the forum, with some post going on 2-4 months old, and some of the contacts never responding or being online. If you hang out in atlas, you'll get invited to Random Sg #2874 or one of the TWO established non-RP sgs I've seen recruiting there in the last 2 weeks.Plenty of SGs are actively recruiting, actually. It's just a matter of finding and picking one. Most people just don't like the themes of certain groups and so they don't join them.
Sadly, I accept it for what it is. The whole "its just a matter of finding one and picking one" is the hard part. -
Thanks for all the feedback, I actually dumped SR (sorry guys) and picked up SD. This was primarily a concept change (the character is now 100% natural) but I have some experience with SD and really, really like it, even if it has a click mez protection and a bunch of toggles.
I think I will end up making another MA/SR toon though, because it was a lot of fun, and I'd like to try air superiority plus slotting for end redux. Ultimately before I rerolled him I reslotted the attacks for more redux and banged out a couple more lvls, I see a lot of potential in it.
Thanks again for all the feedback, scrapper forums rule. -
Hey, just thought I'd throw a bump out for another returning player looking to get involved in the community.
We may just have to scrape all the forum goers looking for an RP-SG into a channel sometime and decide on a theme and a name and just make a new one.
Cheers. -
So long as the lights are off. No kissing either, this is strictly business.

I'm not talking about, end game, 120b in purples slotted viable. I mean...between 1-50, working with SOs and some IOs, do you feel MA is really a viable powerset?
I ask because I got one to 22, the concept on the toon is possibly one of my favorite, I paired it with SR because of concept, but honestly. I have never been as underwhelmed as I am with this guy. I'm out of end before I take on one group of minions, and I know some of the issues with SR, but man, do I ever get my asskicked. Some of the numbers I see from MA are fun, and the animations are first rate, but I can't help but feel like I ought to give up and if I want him as a concept toon, either AE baby him or just leave him at 22 and hang out in Atlas.
So what do you think it takes to make MA/SR not feel so gimp? What secondary would you use with MA for best results? -
Well glad to know there are others out there. If no SGs are actively recruiting, we may one day have to gather up all the singles here on the forums who feel left out and make a new SG.
Still, I'd hope some of the more established SGs might be willing to give us all a go, I don't see how having more consenting adults around could be a bad thing. Wait...that sounds like something.....hmmm....never mind.
Cheers. -
Hey guys, thought I would drop a thread here. I saw the stickies up top, but noticed some of them are a few months old and a couple of them I couldn't seem to contact the people listed.
Here is my conundrum, I'm a pretty active player (this being my chief hobby as of late) but the guys who convinced me to come back and give COH another try are really being inconsistent and while I've been working my way back up and trying different builds and the like, I find my number one issue is that I lack a solid foundation and that makes my interest wane, but figuring out a solid SG to even apply to is difficult. Part of it is me, I've not made enough attempts to be personable enough in game, part of it is the insular nature of SGs, and part of it is the fact a lot of things are established in a community this old. So, this is me trying to reach out and find a similar group of like minded folks.
About me: I'm an older guy, generally a working professional with a wife and all that jazz. I'm extremely laid back about things in game, as in, drama, loot drops, what-he-said-she-said-they-said-about-him, stuff like that doesn't bother me. I love the changes to COH, I was so pleasantly surprised at how well things were going in game, how great it looks, feels and all that. I really enjoy making characters and playing characters with concepts and back stories and enjoy playing the game in character and having a good time with the whole genre of MMO. However, I don't really enjoy doing this solo. I'd rather play a terrible power set on a character concept I love with people I enjoy the game with, than be the "ultimate-pwnerer-farmer-9000" solo.
What I am looking for: I'm looking for an active SG, that enjoys moderate+ RP. I like playing the game in character, accept when I can't and have to OOC and do not understand nor will I ever understand vampire-kitty-schoolgirl ERP. I say active in that, I'd really like to log in and not be alone, I'd like to be able to log in and find teams for all this stuff that has acronyms I don't understand yet, or help people out with stuff. I am extremely easy going in that regard. However, no offense to anyone in a 3 man SG they love to death, but that is exactly my problem right now, I have a blast when my buddies want to play the game, but just spend my time making costumes in the editor when they don't.
What I can do for you: I'm an adult, with adult money, time and effort. I put way too much time and energy into stuff like this, but I enjoy MMOs, I am really enjoying being back in COH and I really want to find an active group of like minded players to enjoy it with. I have several character concepts I think I can play decently, some better than others, but I am willing to invest time into making a character that fits a specific SG concept, so long as it's not someone's alt SG where everyone logs on once a week and plays their <insert theme here> characters for 2 hours. I'd really like a chance to build a character from the ground up and grow him within a community. I'm not in a rush to get an account full of 50's and sit around atlas sipping tea and discussing the finer points of "pattern 6" in the character editor. (it's the best one for a shield background btw)
Honestly, I am looking for a community to join, rather than some random SG spamming my un-sg'd characters in Atlas park that won't have anyone online in a week anyway. I feel like community is the foundation of good gameplay and I would really love to be part of an active community of adults who enjoy this for what it is, a hobby. (where we get to wear capes and beat up purse snatchers)
If you made it this far. Thanks for reading. I'll be checking this thread or you can email me in game at @big jesus (don't ask, the first character I logged in to was a luchador tanker I had) if you think I might be able to fit in with your community. I am not adverse to Apps or trial periods. See: Easy going
Cheers and see you in game. -
Well, for the record, I hear about IOs and the like all the time, but I literally just returned to game, the only thing I have done with IOs is the tutorial "how to make an IO", thinks like "frankenslot" are greek to me. I know I will get the hang of it, my future toons will no doubt be easier once I get a handle on everything I need to know.
As for the 6 misses. The sheer rage I felt at the time has robbed me of the mob type, it was a mission I got in the zone I came out in. Talos I think it is called. I am using lvl 20++ DOs for my ACC. When I first entered the mission, the first group made me lose my mind, so I left, went and bought some DOs to up the lvl of my enhancements for ACC and came back. I was just doing std stuff +0/x1 I think it is called. That particular mob was a +1, but still....
Anyway, it was just a rant, thanks for the math on IOs, I'll put that away fro future reference. I simply have no resources, I scraped everything I had together to get those DOs, so now I am working on getting 3k AE tickets together for when I hit lvl 22. That should buy me 40 SOs.
I will get past this lvl with my sanity intact. Logging in now to get through this. Wish me luck. -
I recently came back to the game and after running Praetoria 20 times on various alts, I came up with a concept and a character I am really having fun with or was having fun with. I left Praetoria at 21, and though I normally group with friends, none were on so I thought I would try some solo missions, no special settings, just standard solo missions.
So an hour and a half of pressing attacks on my Stone/Fire brute and missing, I logged out on the last part of a mission more frustrated than I have ever been playing this game. I guess I am just venting, I know all the general responses "team up", "SOs will help", "IOs" ect ect....but seriously, I've never felt more useless than when 3 minions my level beat me to death while I spent an entire end bar missing them, all this with the best DOs I can put in my attacks, each attack 2 slotted for accuracy. At one point I popped a yellow, plus the Accuracy enhancements and missed a minion my level 6 times in a row, I used every attack on the bar 1-6 and didn't hit until I came back around and used brawl again. My head almost exploded.
Ranting over. Just needed to blow off some steam somewhere and the help channel didn't seem like the right place.
Cheers. -
It's funny because I just came back after like 5 years off and I try to RP with people while i mission and the like and almost without fail, if I accidentally fall into some fun RP, the people want to head back to their base and talk while we all do the /teabag emote.
I really enjoy the universe, the feel of the game, it's been so refreshing coming back after so long away and really discovering I enjoy the game as a hobby but I'd love to kick *** and RP with the best of them, it just seems that besides the occasional random team I join up with, half the people I run into are in single person SGs and the other half have zero open mindedness about the type characters in their SGs or are very clichey.
Live a little guys, it's a game, we all want to have fun. I feel like the RP community could be 50% better if all us little guys could get in with the cliches. -
Hey guys, Just wanted to post here and see if anyone could point me in the right direction via an in game channel or something, but here is the gist of my issue:
I have a couple really solid character concepts I like to play, been messing around making different characters and the like, just about have my whole power set and backstory compiled, but where can I find a solid grouping of RPers to get involved with?
I've always preferred to work my way into a supergroup rather than join the first spammer in Atlas, but some nights I see huge groups of folks, other nights I miss the boat, I am just looking for a way to find a RP-SG with a solid playerbase to mission and patrol with along with all the other stuff that comes from the RP possibilites of COH. Honestly having been away so long, I am downright overwhelmed right now, and would like to start by finding a solid group of players to hang out with. It's lonely beating purse snatchers up all night in Atlas park.
Cheers.
