Back from Iraq, returning to City
Yeah, I will definitely give the Fire/Cold thing a shot. Probably gonna roll a couple others too, as I get 2 weeks off after I get home, I'll have time to play. Looking at a DM/FA Brute and maybe a Arch/TA Corr. I've been CoH Jones'n for quite a while and I've saved up a few names and concepts during what little off time I've had.

Heh, whatever you decide to play, best wishes. I'm sure you'll have a blast.

I don't see a MFing Warshade in that list.

So everyone says. SS/Fire is EVERYWHERE on the Brute forum. That fact alone makes me want something else, lol. Of course the Fire/Ice Corr is all over that forum, so my excuse is kinda weak. :P
SS/Fire is FotM(Year?Decade?Century?) especially for farming certain AE mishes.
If you've got access, everyone loves when a VEAT is around. My personal favorite is the Crab. Mine is a AoE and defensive machine. And with all my pets out (not Lore pets yet) I can crank out some decent single target damage too.
Supposedly, Widows, Forts and Banes are really good too, but really who cares? Crabs are just that awesome.
I tried once a long time ago and felt like I had no direction. Too many options for an indecisive dude, lol. BUT since you called me out, I'll check out your guide and see if you can provide some motivation.

Be prepared, though. The guide is not like anything you've ever read before.

Seriously, thanks for all the well wishes. Most appreciated.

See the guide in my sig if interested. Illusion/Cold and Illusion/Storm are almost as good and play quite differently. And I, too, would like to welcome you back and thank you for your service!

Public service announcement: don't expect that to stay in game forever. I think there's widespread expectation that the proc will get changed to the "one roll every 10 seconds" like other procs. Currently it turns every rain power into a nuke, which while totally awesome, is also absurdly overpowered.

Freedom: Blazing Larb, Fiery Fulcrum, Sardan Reborn, Arctic-Frenzy, Wasabi Sam, Mr Smashtastic.
I'll throw in a suggestion for Fire/Dark Corr as a solo and low level friendly option. No ally targeted powers and a nice AoE minion melter by level 6.
Seriously, thanks for all the well wishes. Most appreciated.

Also, WM/SD brutes are a load of fun once they get past a couple of hurdles.
Either way, welcome back and thanks for Serving!
The Devs have made their intentions perfectly clear: The Incarnate system is the same as becoming a virtual level 60.
Of COURSE we're going to be OMG awesome.
THAT's THE POINT.
As for the OP, may I recommend the old classic, the fire/fire tanker? You will not be disappointed, I assure you.
You could always consider my favorite character of all . . . an Illusion/Rad Controller. It is popular for good reason. Works great solo or on teams. Always welcome on any team. Easy to play moderately well, but a challenge to play "very well." Handles old and new content very well (except for one part of the BAF, but you can get past that pretty easily).

I don't understand why people keep saying this.

Hey Local Man, I've actually read a lot of your posts. I do in fact have a LvL 50 Ill/Rad named Phantazmo. He was the quickest to 50 and one of the most fun toons I've played. He's not maxed out or anything, but he's is fun to play. Not long before I left for the desert, I "tanked" a STF with PA because our SD/BA tanker was getting one shotted by LR. Took several tries, and a lot of help from a Kin, but I pulled it off. I read somewhere that Ill/Rad was struggling with the Incarnate content....
|
However, only this one small part of the Trials is a problem. Ill/Rad actually does very well on the rest of the trials. Of course, PA has the advantage of being able to ignore Sequestration in the BAF trial, while tanks have to take breaks out of melee every now and then.
So, just go in knowing that you will have to adjust your playstyle for that one part. Your Ill/Rad will do great on the rest of the trials.

Not to derail the thread but... Dude! If you're only going to be in Singapore for a few days, enjoy it while you're can. All this CoH stuff can wait a bit. It's a wonderful little city-state, I almost considered living there but the cost of living is just too high.
Thank you for your service.
Another option is a Fortunata. They have a good mix of control, buff, and damage. The Psy damage is a little light on the robots, but it helps a great deal if you're going for the badges in the Marauder fight.
With Tactical Training: Maneuvers and Leadership Maneuvers, combined with Mind Link, you can add a lot of defense to your team, helping them get over the "Incarnate softcap." Plus, you'll have plenty of places to stick the Luck of the Gambler 7.5s.
Thanks!
Fire/Fire Tanker huh? I thought FA was tricky, if not plain difficult, to softcap much or basically prevent "squishiness" (for a tank) |
Well, it depends on how tough you want to be. Remember, you are STILL a tank. You just happen to also do scrapper-style damage.
Here's the actual live build I play on my fire tank:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...87#post3628087
It is very VERY durable, and still does...a lot of damage. And this is a 'durable' fire tank build, not a damage heavy one.
