I'm torn. You've no idea how torn I am. No, really, don't try to visualize it. So I come to you, Scrapper forum. You, with your numbers and your expert advice. Oh, the numbers...the numbers!

Okay, I'm done with that. Now on a more serious note: I'm caught on deciding whether to build a DM Scrapper or an Invuln/SS Tank. But before that, I need everything you've got on DM/

And I mean everything, everything except Willpower. It is a silly secondary.

DM/Invuln or DM/SD

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

yeah, DM/ and either shield or Invuln, then you can tank almost as good as a tank and actually scratch the paint on the baddies

DM/Inv if you want a ridiculous amount of survivability.

Both builds have very good high end build capability, but will cost you a lot!

One of the more experimental builds I've ever done. Yes, I know I didn't go for defense and just threw health bonuses at it (what is logic?), but dang it I was feeling like a little improv.

The two are so completely different, I'm really not sure what your goal is.

If you want to do dark melee/electric, make it a brute.

You will not be a sad panda, and that toon will DESTROY. I mean, seriously wreck things up.

The usual answer to such a question is: make both. NA/Euro merge means more slots for alts, too, if you don't mind foreign travel.

If you go DM/INV, just copy Bass's build.

If you want something else besides /INV, my suggestion, IO out a DM/FA for some OMGDMG!!!

How good is inv vs. the new stuff? I would think pairing dm with almost every other secondary would be superior to inv for various reasons, but i've only played one inv a while ago, on a brute before the inv buffs, but I remember the exotic stuff tearing me apart. I think I over slotted run on sentence making...

Well, let's just compare to Super Reflexes. You still have better exotic resistance (well, arguably anyway), plus you have a lot more hit points. And at least on a top end build, you're at the old soft cap, and on a team, you're probably above the new soft cap most of the time. You also have an occasional but massive heal.

This is purely anecdotal, but a well-built but not-top-end Invuln/Super Strength Tanker I sometimes play with is doing just fine tanking the incarnate trials. Dark Melee can be built even tougher. Tanker =/= Scrapper, of course.

It's early, and I need to make the build into a post i19 one, but so far my Dark/elec has been one of the more frustrating builds so far. I made it in the buzzsaw days and then that got changed. I actually talked to a SG/VG mate and asked if they had made one and they said they had and it's one of their better brutes, but it just develops late. Mine's like 24, but I hate being any type of meatshield on a team right now. I'm ok if I'm solo, or the secondary melee. I want to keep it since it works in my head, but it's just been frustrating so far. I'll blame the lack of Energize on part of the frustration so far. Rerolling a SS/elec, or SS/sd is rather temping. Yes, I'm aware of the cost to make SS/sd shine.

And just went and dusted off the build(Dark/elec brute). Did some missions and it played rather well. I really just need Energize to smooth things over and I'll be good until I can get some IOs into the build.

Inv Tank with Perma DP and Rebirth is pretty much a regen tank that is softcapped to most things with decent resists.

As for a DM/Elec scrapper that is one of the few times I'd probably say "Go Brute" (and you won't hear it often) Or better yet go Elec/SS tank. But yeah Elec you are resist based so you want the higher res cap and as much HP as you can get. Plus you'll have the taunt aura where as I think the scrappers lightning field is simply a damage aura.

Elec I would say is a top tier set for the new trials atm. Fast, amazing resists to S/L/Energy/Psi, self heal, and end drain resist for all those things spamming drain psyche. But I'd probably only want to play it on tanks, and to a lesser extent, brutes. (Being able to near hardcap S/L/Energy outside of the tier 9 is awesome)

With Succubus Kali, I've Tanked the AVs, gone on "solo" missions to get the Temp powers in the two facilities for Lambda, amongst other Scrapperlock things. Without ever dying.

It's been a blast, I'm getting objectives done on the Trials and not letting up on the acceleration.

LOL, no I tell people the truth.

And DM/elec is WAY better on a brute. Anything resistance or healing based is better on a brute, and the difference is considerable. The gap is especially large on an Inv, Electric, or a Willpower.

Sorry, but them's the facts.

Sort of a shame, really, because I like scrappers a lot more, but the numbers don't lie.

Much better defenses, easily comparable damage. Especially on a dark/electric, or a fire/willpower. (OMG, fire/electric broot, droool.)

Electric with some s/l defense through sets is fanfreakingtastic in regular content and especially itrials. There are a couple reasons you might actually want to take it on a scrapper though...

1) If pairing with kat/broadsword for lethal and melee defense
2) You can pair it with Shadow Meld
3) If you go musculature radial paragon to make powersink more potent (sapping 94% of endurance from everything short of an EB/AV in one shot? yes please), then the damage buff portion of that benefits a scrapper a bunch more than it does a tank or brute. Really if it weren't for this one I would have made my db/elec a brute.

My level 50+++ kat/elec scrapper is SO'd and still creams the trials

My level 50+ IO'd db/elec scrapper was soloing weapons cache and containment chamber spawns in lam yesterday and today. I kid you not.
