RIP Elisabeth Sladen

The 'all life is transitory' line is probably the most appropriate thing I've seen. It's a day later and I'm still sad, but I'm glad to read Tom Baker's words, and will do my very best to smile and remember her fondly, because I think that's how she thought about us, the fans.

Bless her, truly.

She was "my companion" in the same way that Peter Davison was David Tennant's Doctor. I began my Dr. Who experience with John Pertwee, so she was the first companion I really connected with.

Someone else mentioned this earlier, but her death hit me like the loss of a friend. She was part of my life, and had been for many, many years, although she'd never have known it.

Rest in Peace, Miss Sladen. You will always be my companion.

The more I've read, the more it seems like we feel like we've lost a family member of some kind. I agree with you completely Mindscythe, and it was very nice to hear your sentiments during the UStream yesterday morning.

It's been touching and saddening to see the outpouring of affection for her, and how it's just cut across boundaries. I think the new Who fans know something of how we older fans felt when we lost Jon Pertwee particularly, and dear Patrick Troughton. But she...she's something special.

Always will be.

There's always a certain amount of sadness when one of my favourite celebrities passes, but I can't recall any of them quite managing to put a lump in my throat and moisten my eyes like this news did. The BBC should run a Who marathon of all the Sarah Jane Smith episodes.

Goodbye may seem forever
Farewell is like the end
But in my heart's the memory
And there you'll always be

I was looking around FB at various Sarah Jane/Lis Sladen tribute sites and found a pic that made me go 'Woah. That's.. wow.'

But I don't know how to add pictures to posts, so I can't add it here.

1) right click on the picture at the site and go to Properties, where it should give you the full link to the picture http://blahblahblah.com/blah/blah/pic.jpg or somesuch)
2) come here, start a post, and click on the little mountains with sun icon (the one that indicates Insert Image)
3) paste the link
4) done

Otherwise, just point us to the website.

Stopped at the public library and spent some time on Youtube looking at various clips of Sarah Jane; the first time she was introduced; her departure from the show; when the Doctor showed up on her show the first time. She was so so young back during her run with the 3rd and 4th Doctors.

She's one of those lucky women who get more beautiful as they get older, like Helen Mirren, Lynda Carter, Pam Grier and Lindsay Wagner.

Hearing about Lis Sladen's death hit me hard.

She's going to be missed....but somehow, if there is a Heaven, she was met by old friends....

She was the first companion I ever saw when I began watching DW.

It was always great to see her work with the different Doctors.

She will be missed.

Rest in Peace.

For those who might have missed it, this is the YT version of the official tribute to Lis Sladen. I cried. I couldn't help it.

Thank you so much for linking this... I didn't find out they'd be doing it until after I'd left town and couldn't set up a recording myself.

I think anyone who knew her or knew of Sarah Jane did, Michelle. I smiled, I cried, I wondered how Matt Smith and David Tennant and the kids didn't just burst into tears talking about her, and then during the final montage, I just kissed my fingers and touched my screen and said goodbye.

I miss both Sarah and Lis a lot. But I'm also deeply heartened by knowing so many of us know Lis is with friends now, and Sarah Jane...hell, I wish she could regenerate and never leave. But instead, I hope she goes somewhere wonderful.

OK when I first heard of this I was like right u got to be joking well I really didn't tell it to the person I was just thinking of it. But then I asked them to share the link about Tom's blog and all. It is sad to read the news about her. Also to me she was a key link between the old and the new Doctor Who. They did not mentioned or showed any of his other companions so when they brought her on the new show with David Tennent I was like alright my favorite companion along with K-9. Then they brought her back for the season 4 finally with the deleks where she was there at there creation and the end of devros. But I know she will be truly missed.
