Development Request: More Nemesis - More Steampunk/ Gas Lamp Genre

If: "It's always a Nemesis plot."
Then: I want to see more Nemesis!

Within the "Real World" current popular pulp culture over the past few years have been leading two different but parallel directions; Zombies and Steampunk / Gas Lamp Genre. CoH already has Zombies covered with their own Event: Halloween Event/Zombie Apocalypse that offers defeat badges and an unlockable costume piece as well as members of the Banished Pantheon and minions of the (zombie-like) Vahzilok. Yet the Steampunk / Gas Lamp Genre has been virtually untouched in development since the first Nemesis arrived in Paragon City. I realize that *some* effects and items exist and new ones are nonchalantly being added like the "Steamjets" Aura and Nemesis Staff, yet piecemeal additions are all that they are.

Already there is a well worked (open ended) background story [See "Background": http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Nemesis_(Archvillain) ] and an extensive military hierarchy [Seen here: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Nemesis and here: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Nemesis_Automatons ] so where are they?

I submit this tentative (and incomplete) list of common concepts for development.
1. New Nemesis / Steampunk / Gas Lamp powers, items and costume parts
Suggestions:
~Temp Travel Powers: "Bounce Boots" (spring loaded jump boots). "Aether Flight Pack" (steam propelled, lighter-than-air balloon back pack).
~Temp Combat Powers: Nemesis Rifle. Summon Nemesis Jaeger pet(s) (single or squad). "Oculi Shifter" (defensive Phase Shift power).
~Costume Parts: Nemesis uniform parts, Hussar military uniform parts (heavily ornate). Hussar helmet and armor. Hussar shield. Steampunk armor- ornately etched and decorative blend of plate armor, leather armor and steam powered armor (gears and cogs). Steam powered pistols (Dual Pistols power set). Steam propel cross bow (Archery power set). Folding diamond plate fan shield (Shield Defense power set, similar to Ascendant shied but more Oriental looking and primitive). Leather Edwardian top hat with goggles. Bowler hat with goggles. Students hat with goggles. Captains hat with goggles. Richly embroidered waist coat. Edwardian Flock Coat (short and long). Edwardian Great Coat (with / without short cape). Female Edwardian Frock Dress Coat / Riding Coat. Long split side button up skirt. Ornately etched armored bodice. Decorative leather bodice. Fur lined leather flight jackets. Silk flight scarf.
2. New Nemesis dominated Zone or "Neighborhood"
Suggestion: Founder's Falls. The high gabled buildings and pristine surroundings would be ripe pickings for launching a convert night time and devastating invasion force on Paragon City.
3. New Nemesis Fortress / Base
Suggestion: A steam propelled Aerial Fortress (levitated platform) that moves around the zone (similar to the Ghost Ship). It's obscured by dense steam clouds until you are actually standing on the fortress, then everything is in a haze with reduced long distance perception. The Fortress is held up by dozens of Zeppelin shaped balloons with iron cased protective tips at the front and defensive range weapons protecting them (similar to the Turret "pillbox" defenses). The Fortress is equally protected by an escort of several combat Zeppelins with Nemesis troops and defensive weapons on them. The Fortress has timed "bomb drop" platforms used to deliver their deadly payload on to the city.
4. New Nemesis Event
Suggestion: (Staying with the original storyline) A rekindled invasion attempt, this time on Paragon City; similar to the Rikti Invasion Event. The Nemesis Aerial Fortress threatens to drop nerve gas bombs over the city.
The Event goals are:
1. Destroy the dozens of Zeppelin shaped balloons supporting the fortress, sending the fortress crashing to earth (extremely difficult).
2. Destroy (in order) the timed "bomb drop" platforms (less difficult), disabling Nemesis' ability to drop the nerve gas but allowing him to flee to return for another attempt at another time.
~The Event Warning should take place during night time and should be similar to an Air-Raid with all city lights blacked out, an Air-Raid siren and Air-Raid spotting lights searching the sky.
5. New Badges
Suggestion: Appropriate Event and Defeat badges.

I'd *love* to see more Nemesis stuff, and especially access to costume pieces. Victorian uniforms as mentioned above, also pith helmets (aka safari helmets) for the "explorer" look. Peaked pith helmets can double as English "Bobbie" police helmets.

One way to give players a "steampunk military" option that would be different from actual Nemesis parts would be shako hats with plumes (can double as band uniforms with the inclusion of 19th century uniform coats) or Uhlan hats (chapkas). (In case devs don't want us totally mimicing Nemesis troops.)

Here's a nice illustration of Uhlans, showing a good representation of a 19th Century military uniform:

also, PLEASE give us NORMAL epaulettes! Also please note that most formal military dress uniforms are very much like 19th Century uniforms.

A Victorian/Nemesis/Steampunk reality accessible through the Midnighters club would serve as a perfect setting. . .

Correction; PLEASE remove the normal epaulets from the bloody TF Commander accolade, and make them available to everyone. I have not one character who I've been bothered to do all the Phalanx TFs on, after 2+ years or so. It's a major irritant.

Nemesis had his moment to shine for awhile. Let's give the spotlight to an enemy group that hasn't had a real chance to showcase what they're really about. Not only that, but I can't see Nemesis being the type to just go full blown offensive like that when I'm fairly sure he knows he'd lose. He's more the type to create paranoia through espionage and subterfuge, then claim the throne for himself when all threats are dead or replaced.

And, in my opinion, steampunk/victorian pieces are pretty meh. Neat, but not something I'd use. I'd rather see more heroic and basic costume options/designs. Alot more can be done with those, and we're really lacking nowadays in the whole "simple" and "classic superhero" feel. I mean, we don't even have basic trims for boots, gloves, and capes.

YES to steampunk/Gas Lamp/Victorian/Neo-victorian!

NO! To more Nemesis plots.

Mustache twirling villains who are secretly behind everything that happens in a setting are tired and laughably trite storytelling/writing.

We have multiple magic using groups. We have multiple Tech using groups. Multiple undead groups. There's room for a new, more interesting, steam/diesel punk villain group.

Are we talking here about Dr. Loveless from the Wild Wild West?

Captain Nemo, perhaps?

Things that make you say Hmmm...

Why doesn't Nemisis have a twirly mustache???? And what's with the spiky hair?

Well if we want to venture away from Nemesis, we could have the Legacy of Jules Verne's Captain Nemo still be alive and well in the City of Verse (Possibly in sort of a Dread Pirate Roberts manner), maybe heroes can join some scientists on a Journey to the Center of the Earth. (Just imagine: The Captain Nemo Strikeforce)

Delving into HG Welles, we can get time machines and Martian invaders. Even more interesting, instead of steampunk martians attacking Primal Earth, ther're the Martians of Praetoria and see Praetoria (being distracted by their shiny invasion of Primal Earth) as a juicey target on a rich world to completely blindside.

Sadly this probably means the new zone, stories and enemies we'll be getting in Issue 21 won't be Steampunk-based, since they would have saved the costumes/temp powers to coincide with that release.
