I'm opening a ticket now to confirm this and I will post the reply.

Do you have a search comment and set your LFT flag? Do you ever look for people leading a team? Look at my guide on /sea. People in Purple are leading a team.

I'd suggest this if anyone actually used their LFT flags and if half the people playing didn't hide from search anyway.

Your best bet really is the right global channels.

Well, if so, it doesn't show up in the channel search. 2,500 people is the limit, from what I hear and that's the maximum number I can find in channel searches.

I formed a Virgil Tarikoss SF in 3 minutes with /sea yesterday at 3:00PM EST.

Edit: All the people I recruited had their flag set.

Why would people hid their status? Why not just change your flag to NLFT?

I formed a Kahn TF recently in 20 seconds with a single broadcast in a global channel.

Edit: All the people I recruited hide from search.

Personally, I hide because I don't like receiving spam messages. There are quite a few people who recruit for SGs or teams with macros and just hit everyone on the list. The NLFT flag doesn't prevent me from being seen and have spam macro tells sent to me. Further, the NLFT flag doesn't stay set every time I log in.

When I play, I do the things I intend to do. If I'm looking for a team, I'll broadcast in my global channels and get one rolling. If I want to solo, I don't have to worry about responding to or ignoring tells from people. I don't waste their time by letting them see me and send the message in the first place.

Lotsa reasons. I regularly go /hidden to all searches so I can basically play in peace. I like my friends, but some days I don't feel like being an paragonwiki parrotbot or want to hear about your build problems. Some day, I just want to fight crime.

Thanks Turg, I was thinking about this and last week I had players on my team telling me to add people I just couldn't find. The hidden status must of been the cause.

Do people tell you asking you to give recommendations for builds and paragon stuff during the game? I just alt tab and look it up. That's weird.

This is interesting hearing this. I never get spam. I used to get it when I first joined the game but now I never get it. I do get the broadcast spam that everyone else gets. I wonder if your "friends" or SG members are spamming you?

This is the reply from the helpdesk:

Enlarging the limit for global chat channels is not a current feature in City of Heroes. Game Support would not be able to perform this function.
As you are aware, the Development Team is in charge of planning and implementing the design of the game. If you would like to alert them to your ideas about this issue, we would encourage you to express them on the forums, where they can view your feedback first hand. The Development Team does read the forums regularly and many changes to the game have come directly from feedback of the players.

Yeah. Usually you can just do /invite PLAYERNAME and the invite will be received no matter what, hide flags be damned. (Unless they have the /hide from teaming toggled, which I generally don't.)

And yeah, I get questions like "what would you do for INSERT_AT build", badge questions, PUGgers LFT, people who are on my global and wanna know what my plans are for the night, etc. It's cool, I do the same; but when I want the quiet, I draw the drapes closed. No one's really begrudged me for it, and vice versa.

Interesting. I tried to use the boards but so many of the players don't consult or plan their gaming that I have to PUG during the game. Sadly, because of the search tools, I get the same people when I do a search. Is there a way to have the next set of results come up?

Just keep clicking Search. It'll go to the next page, then the next, etc.

FYI, when you find good players, friend 'em. 80% of my teams are all arranged via global contacts. When you find good players, why lose track of 'em?

80% of my teams are via /sea and they are wonderful.

the system has a limit on the friends, it's not very many at all. Is there another way to add them? Is the global friend and friend list different?

the GM's say that won't work. I've tried that too. They said you have to change search criteria.

GM LLOYD

You'll have to add more search criteria and narrow your search. Currently there is no option to continue displaying all the characters that fit broad search criteria after the display limit is reached.

The GM's told me to contact the chat admins and ask them if they are managing inactive users. he's getting the list for Freedom now.

The system limit on global friends never bothered me. If I hit the limit, I find someone on the list whom I haven't talked to in a long time, and I remove 'em. And yes, the two lists are different, but I find the global friend system to be far more useful.

And the best part of the reality is, the two facts aren't exclusive to one another at all.

GM's wrong, then. Stop fact checking me vs Lloyd (who's a nice guy) and just try it yourself. Sort by name, do a general search, note the first name on the list. Hit Search again. New list. Hit it again. Each time, look for that first name. You won't see it repeated 'til the list is exhausted and it starts over.

(EDIT: BTW, I didn't realize this for myself until @Master_Blade pointed it out to me a few months ago. Cheers, MB.)

Turg,

I'm not fact checking you, we're having an important discussion here. I play this game a lot and I'm always searching for members. I get the same lists all the time. People send hate chat to me saying I just telled them 30 secs ago. I know this firsthand. I was just exploring to see if I was doing something wrong. I have done this on NA and EU servers.

Next, the globalids and friends list, this can't be more than 8-15 for each. Are you hiding yourself based on this small listing? I just don't understand why people would hide on servers unless everyone knows them(original, original vet). I know lately, because of the WST/WTF we have less time to socialize but if someone says hello to you they're not asking for your life story, right?

1. I said the fact checking thing with a smile. XD Sorry that doesn't translate well via text. No tension meant or had on my end. But seriously, try doing exactly what I said. You'll see what I mean for the mechanics.

2. ..am lost. 8-15 for each, what? Total amt on my global friends list? I have about 40-50 people who're ACTIVE on my list per night, with the rest totalling the limit of 200, I think?

3. I hide because I don't want to be found. On an MMO, some days, you just wanna log in and beat the snot outta Clockwork, and not talk to anyone. I can't make this any plainer. When I'm not hidden, people get chatty. I don't fault 'em, but when I don't want to reciprocate, I /hide. It's as easy as that.

Works for me too.

I dont really think we have half the normal population on hide either. Never have stats to find out find.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

Global channels are absolutely awesome for TFs/SFs/GM hunting whatever. Pick a few for your server and just drop the quiet ones. I think the max is about 14 so I have four or five on my main server then two or three on the others. Very handy.

Because people are dumb and don't read. Even if I type "No thanks" in the search term, people still send tells. Here's a few reasons why I'm in almost perma hide from searches and sometimes from my globals (friends and channels):
- In costume creator (can't see what you're typing)
- Base editing
- Marketing a lot (EG enhancing a new char and don't want to lose track)
- Alting a lot ("ack a tell who was that from at log off in 1 sec")
- AFKing a lot
- Just not feeling sociable
- Don't want to be distracted (EG Master run)

I can vouch that I've asked too many badge questions of Dr. T. a few times. Of course sometimes I get asked 100 badge questions too so I know why people hide.

I'd be happy to add the OP to my new global channel if he tells to me @ferrum-ignis in game.

There is one individual that is infamous for inviting people to his SG. Within 5 minutes of their login. (He's also known for inviting lowbies to teams, in zones far too dangerous to go into unSK'd, waiting till they're in zone and /sginviting them, then kicking them if they give the wrong answer. ) There are people that, if they can find you, they won't shut up.
