How would you explain Incarnate progression...?
When you play at 50, you get stuff that can make your character stronger.

I get the gist of it, but I was thinking about it and from the outside it seems very convoluted, and I'm curious if someone could explain it in a way that makes sense, and covers all the bases. That means, shards, threads, favors, incarnate xp, level shift, which ones are psychic and which are... physical? material? whichever the other ones were. Where can you use all your extra powers and all your level shifts. And I'm not talking about making a guide, I'm talking about how you could ever explain this all conversationally. Feel free to try, I'd be glad to be proven wrong. |
Then OOH!
Then WAHA!
Then ZOWIE!
Then YOWZA!
Then AUUGH!
Then OH YEAH!
The first time I tried to talk about it, all that came out of me sounded a lot like Hyperstrike's answer. If you've actually got someone who needs some a-splainin', I'd start by telling them about Mender Ramiel and his arc. Then I'd keep it nice and high-level, at this point a 20-words-or-less like Rush gave will likely be more helpful than making them drink from the firehose. In my last attampt at this, I then gave a quickie intro to Alpha abilities, and made my friend open the Incarnate window. While she browsed the ability trees, I quickly explained that the basic components could either be gotten as TF rewards, or crafted from these newfangled shards. Fortunately, said friend is savvy enough that she knew to follow up on my talk with a trip to Paragonwiki.

I had a great time playing with you!
You do a thing, and you unlock them.
You do some stuff, and you fill them.
When they're all full, you are awesome.

Once you hit 50 you have 10 Incarnate slots. You have to do things to unlock the slots. Sometimes it's missions, other times it's earning XP.
Once you unlock the slots, you can get Incarnate salvage. You have to do things to get the salvage. Sometimes it's killing mobs, other times it's running Trials.
Once you've got enough of the right salvage, you can make Incarnate Enhancements, which are like normal enhancements only more powerful. There are different levels of these enhancements a la TO/DO/SO that need various different combinations of salvage.
The higher tier enhancements give you bonus levels on top of Lv50 (Presumably up to 60 as there are 10 slots but we don't know for sure yet), but these only apply to Incarnate content.

Like a whole lot of bind-on-pickup loot with some story / lore flavour. You play endgame content to get it. The tougher the content, the rarer the loot.
You can earn it by playing standard missions at a slower pace.
The gear produced from the loot boosts your core attributes, making you better at whatever it is you do. Forthcoming gear grants you new abilities and powers.
The far reaching goal of Incarnate loot is to make you into a demi-god, on par with or superior to the headline characters of the game.
