Support for the New NCsoft Security Update
Sorry you and your friends have been having problems, but it's not as hard as you're making it seem to keep track of things. I've been playing over 5 years on the same card, and I know exactly where my game CDs and keys are, and I've moved halfway across the country in that time.
|
At this point, I haven't logged into my account after reading the issues others are having. If the problems others are reporting are widespread, this could have a very negative impact on CoH -- and deservedly so, which would be a shame. It's a fun game which my whole family enjoys playing together (I'm a 54-month player myself).
Again, no.
Most ISP DHCP lease systems will reassign you the same IP address again and again for an indefinite period of time when the lease expires. |
And no, the lightning isn't affecting my hardware. It's affecting Verizon's hardware.

D) Register machines by their MAC adress. With MAC being Unique to each Network Card, that means that even if your IP address changes, you would be recognized. Mind you this is still not 100% secure, since the MAC is transmited inside of the TCP packet, but it is a much harder thing to snag that way, plus the spoofing of MAC addresses are not real prevalent.
Just my thoughts on the whole matter. |
2. Its actually easier to capture MAC address than keystroke log a password.
3. MAC addresses are trivial to spoof, unless you are on Windows 7 in which case its just a little harder (because of that stupid prefix lock). Every other operating system on the planet doesn't lock that, and many NIC drivers helpfully provide a way to override local MAC within the driver itself. And if your driver doesn't have a way to do what with point and click, the industry tool for doing this is called SMAC. Costs like twenty bucks if you choose to actually pay for it, and most serious security professionals I know have this tool in their standard set of tools.
There's a reason why its a good idea to hire real professionals to do this. Its very easy to make errors on implementation based on incomplete knowledge. The guys that wrote Netscape put a pseudorandom number generator in the SSL code that improperly set an initialization vector. The net result was their version of SSL was trivially crackable and had to be quickly patched. Kindergarden mistake, but it happens all the time.

I for one despise this new feature.
For a game trying to garner more subscribers, this plan is stupid.
I have old accounts I might want to reactivate but, this big brother security
will make it a hassle to do so.
I had enough info to activate until they wanted a retinal scan to activate.
Guess they won't get the money from my old accounts.
GOOD LUCK WITH THIS !!!!

I noticed last year that I wasn't getting acknowledgements for booster packs from NC. I questioned my email provider and was told this:
"it looks as though their mail system doesn't support sender verify for
some reason. Essentially our mail server will check that the sending
address is valid (in real time) before accepting the mail."
I USED to get emails fine then it stopped. So I'm guessing that at some point last year NC changed the way they sent out emails. Players who don't have the codes may well have had the same issue I did.
My email provider put NC's IPs on a 'clear list' so the emails come through now but because NC won't resend, I have no way of reobtaining that information. My email provider said they wouldn't have kept the mail, just bounced it. And NC would have known their mails were being bounced.
Best of luck to everyone still trying to dig themselves out of this mess.

Most ISP DHCP lease systems will reassign you the same IP address again and again for an indefinite period of time when the lease expires. Rebooting in the middle of a lease period and signing back on with a device with the same MAC address will result in you being issued the same IP address. Usually only prolonged periods of downtime (beyond the end of a current IP lease, which in ISPs' cases,is usually 24 hours or more) will result in the issuing of a new IP address. I've been on the same public IP address for weeks now. With multiple system reboots in that time. |
I am on cable. And my IP changes every 2-3 days.

Yes. I can get lost on a straight-line map.
Yeah I just gained access to my account, the two fields required to verify were down to one now and I'll just leave it at that, I have admittance bottom line.
The booster pack feeling I had yesterday has definitely passed though.
Now on to check my wife's MA, and in the process take secured screenies of whatever I might require someday to enter the darned thing.
Hope the best for all you still trying.
