  3. I Love the water blast powerset, but need better costume options for it.

    I think to maximize the utility of this we need some updated costume options.

    We need some more reptile, amphibian or fish monster heads to go with it.
    Webbed Hands and Webbed Feet would be good as well.
    Also, I would be nice if the halloween costume set was available
    it had good costume pieces for making water based heroes.
    Especially the fish head and the webbed gloves and boots.
  4. I like the new water blast powerset, but wish i could have more of an fish/amphibian appearance.
    To that end I suggest that water blast could use some new animal heads for water based characters.
    Fish, Reptile or Amphibian heads would look great with a water based hero.
    One of the costume sets had monster heads which contained a fish based head,
    it would be nice if that were available at the Paragon Store, since the only other
    head we have at this point is the original reptile head.

    In addition webbed hands and webbed feet might be worth adding for water based characters as well.
  5. Maybe what should happen is a total revamp of the Tanker Class.
    What would happen if Tanker become the Rogue Class from D&D.
    Then Tankers would still have max defense but with more secondary powerset options.

    Kinda of like Champions Lite or Champions (the RPG).
    Instead of being restricted to specific Melee secondaries (with damage buff plz).
    Maybe they should have access to traditional Tanker secondaries or to a modified version of Defender Ranged secondaries.
    Ranged Damage might need to be adjusted to maintain play balance but, that could be done in BETA.
    If damage output was gauged correctly this would not become a tank-mage class, just something a bit different.
    This would create a new dynamic and new character AT that would be worth exploring and playing.

    This new character AT would be more like Thor, Iron Man, SpiderMan and many of the other comic superheroes.
    Many comic book heroes seem to be a mix of Tanker and Blaster AT's.
    This new hybrid Tanker AT would enable us to make heroes we could not before due to strict AT classes.
  6. I have to agree with Johnny Butane.
    As one who liked and played tanks predominantly, I have now moved on to Brutes as I can create them in Paragon now, no need to transfer over from Red(Dead) side.
    I see no real reason to employ a Tanker over a Brute for the most part.
    My problem is not only does a Brute do more damage than a Tanker, but it shares the almost the same powersets and power animations as Tankers.

    If you want to fix Tankers then:
    Increase their melee Damage or atleast give them more melee AOES so they can affect more mobs.
    Increase their Aggro cap so 1 tanker is much better than 2 Brutes, maybe they will get some respect again.
    Also SS Tankers able to pick up enviromental objects to attack their foes, Mailboxes, Shelves, Tables, Parked Cars etc...

    There are alot of things that could be done to make them different and a better choice than Brutes, but it might take some work.
  7. Thanks all for your advice and opinions.
    I maybe getting more stuff because of the Paragon Market, it just feels like less
    since I only get 400 PP a month to purchase all the stuff coming out.
    I feel like the good stuff I must purchase, while the stuff I get free I probably will not notice or utilize in game.

    It was a dream come true to be able to build and play as Superhero.
    As one who played the pencil and paper Superhero RPG Champions (and D&D),
    it was great to be able see your Superhero battle Villans like they did in Comics.

    I had a great time over these 7 years, and I hope that "Absence does make the heart grow fonder".
    Hopefully a bit of a break with rekindle my love for COX.

    I hope to see you in game on Freedom.

  8. I am becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the game overall.
    As a long time subscriber I am hoping for some player feedback
    about the overall quality of the game now and the value
    of the Paragon Market to you.

    The game overall seems to be getting stale to me,
    I guess that is too be expected after 7 years.
    My feeling is that it is due to a couple of factors.

    1) My lack of time to invest in Super Group stuff, TF or Incarnate Arcs.

    2) Lack of mission teams to join. Trials have destroyed teaming in Paragon.
    Solitary nature of trial interaction reminds me of PI powerleveling run.
    Empty zones with almost no one to team with during daytime.

    3) Lack of new enemies, staleness of same old foes year after year.
    Lack of new contact, paper, radio missions for mission teams.

    4) Lack of Desire to create new Hero/Heroine
    The same old powersets nothing new or interesting for free.
    The new powersets that I have bought have dissapointed me.
    Same old costumes unless you pay for new options.

    6) Lack of Desire to level or roleplay my older Heroes.
    Do to apathy or boredom with my progress or the game itself.


    As far as the Paragon Market is concerned, I feel it is a necessary evil.
    I do like the fact that it has enhancements since some are scarce in WW and BM.
    I feel it does serve a purpose to F2P and Premium Members.

    But, for me as a VIP it only serves annoy me since now powersets and costumes
    are not QL improvements as they have been in the past.
    The Paragon Market has reduced my choices instead of increasing them.
    It is too bad new free stuff might have rekindled some interest in the game.

    Frankly, I have been disappointed with the powersets I have purchased.
    Now I resist the temptation to buy new powersets due to my boredom with the
    sets included with my subscription.

    Overall, I guess you could call me dissapointed in the direction of the game.

    New Powersets

    1) Tech Blast -- tech based ranged sets.
    Ranged Heroes would use some focus....blaster gun, phaser, boomerang, globe etc.
    for their powers. Different skins should be available to add variety and spur acceptance.
    So it could be used for blasting, defender, corrupter ranged powers.
    In fact primary powers could have one focus and secondary powers another.

    2) Gaucho / Whip Melee
    Use of whip for single target attacks.
    Net, Bolo or Quarter Stick (cherry bomb) to hold or stun mobs.
    Fireworks, Boomerang could be used for cone, aoe attacks.

    3) Shield Melee
    Use shield to attack, sharp edged like saw blade
    Envision like claws but with edged sheild instead.
    Should be able to toss shield like boomerang when surrounded for aoe and cone attack.


    Some MM possibilities: BTW have no MM hero/villians don't like any of the possible pets available.

    4) Angel Summoning -- Mastermind Set.
    Not sure of heroes main attack power. Could use whip with white or blue energy balls.
    Or could have hero hurl fire or lightning bolts.
    Summon white guardian angels to engage foes.

    5) Gangster Summoning -- Mastermind Set.
    Illusion / Deceive Attacks. Summon typical gang mobs to fight for you.
    For Example : Choice of Hellions, Skulls, Lost, Outcasts, Trolls.

    6) Monster Summoning -- Mastermind Set.
    Use Dark Blast attacks. Summon Zombie, Cadavers. Summon Werewolf, Vampire for Lt and Boss.

    7) Beast Summoning -- Mastermind Set.
    Use thorn assault attacks. Summon wolves, Bears, Big Cat ( Choice of Tiger, Lion, Panther)

    Just a couple of Ideas of the top of my head.
  10. Hi All,

    I played both COX and Freedom Beta yesterday.
    Today I cannot get Launcher to update COX, I can still get on Beta but not COX.
    I have my Antivirus turned off. I had 2 launchers one for COX and one for Beta.
    When I try to use the COX NCS launcher nothing will update.
    All I get after clicking on update is downloading bar that never changes.
    It never actually starts download is my impression.
    I deleted the NCS launcher and downloaded old version.
    My result was Access Denied message.
    I cannot access the game anymore from this computer.
    PS the other computer will let me log on to COX but not my main one.
    Launcher seems broken.


    Any possible help would be appreciated.

    For a game trying to garner more subscribers, this plan is stupid.
    I have old accounts I might want to reactivate but, this big brother security
    will make it a hassle to do so.
    I had enough info to activate until they wanted a retinal scan to activate.

    Guess they won't get the money from my old accounts.

    Pools have 4 options each. Patron/Epic Pools have been increased to provide more functionality, but not the normal pools.

    Since the other travel pools have an attack move, I thought TP could too. I pictured this move working kind of like a short ranged blast attack, but using melee damage multipliers. You click when within a range of maybe the short ranged blast moves like Cosmic Burst, and your character warps in really fast, attacks, and warps back to their previous position. The secondary effect could be an accuracy improvement over the other pool attacks since you are catching them off-guard.

    I also thought adding a final move with some defensive capabilities would be interesting too, since some of the other travel sets have them. Rift Jumping could be a way to avoid an attack by teleporting. Make it a click buff like Build Up, short duration but nice effect. Make it so when activated, your character will disappear when struck, causing the attack to miss, and you will be invisible and phased. After a few seconds or when you next attack, you will reappear in your current location. How it could play out is that the enemy is charging you and you click Rift Jumping. They swing and you disappear. You run a few yards away (travel powers should be suppressed for it to keep it from being overpowered) and shoot back, causing you to reappear. As far as they are concerned, you vanished and appeared behind them, never got hit, and shot back. Some would say this one-time avoidance thing would be dumb, but used right this could make you rather slippery. Not sure what the recharge and all would be on a move like this, but I don't see a minute or 1.5 minutes being unreasonable. Even a melee class would get the benefit of fully avoiding a move, if not also the potential to either run or get a stun in next.

    Other pools could do this too. The Flight pool could have a move like "Favorable Wind" that helps team endurance recovery for a short time. Leaping could have a move like "Into the Fray" that will be like Shield Charge, but with a knockdown effect only and no damage. Make the character's movement an arc instead of a straight line and you'd have an effective "dive into the fight" style move. The Speed pool could have a "Counterattack" move. It could be a temporary click buff that causes you to strike the opponent with half damage whenever you are hit, for a short time. There could be a streaky animation of your character, like with Shield Charge, that zooms over and back whenever you are attacked, and the person gets hurt. I figure it could last for a short time like Build Up. Ok, so half damage might be a bit much, considering you could have ten NPCs attacking the tank; for him to activate such a move, that would be crazy powerful, so perhaps just a base damage upon being hit would be better, but I digress. I mainly mean to point out possible additions to the thematic pools that exist.

    I'm by no means saying this should be done 100% as I suggested, but merely that having more diverse options in our pools would be great. I'm sure my ideas for new moves would need some balancing, but the general concept I think not only fits the pool, but can be used by most classes just fine while still providing a thematically relevant but new twist on the power set.

    I vote in favor of your suggestion of expanding the options in the original power pools.
    I agree that more power pools with travel powers should have 1 attack atleast as an option.
    More power choices is always better, because it allows you to customize your powers,
    making your hero fit its origin concept better

    My greatest desire would be the creation of "Second Wind" (Hasten like Recharge Power)
    for the Fitness Pool. This power would go a long way toward reducing the necessity of Speed Pool for Hasten.


    In addition, Epic Power pools could be used to give access to additional travel power.
    Each AT could have one Epic Pool with Fly as power, one with Super Jump, one with Super Speed, one with Teleport.
    Also, which ever Epic had teleport added to it could add a teleport attack power, and the other pools could add thematicly
    related powers as you suggested.


    Another Option would be to Create: Travel Mastery Epic Pool
    Open to all AT types.
    All travel powers and prereqs as movement options.
    Teleport Friend, Teleport, Group Teleport
    Hover, Fly, Group Fly
    Hurdle, Super Jump, Acrobatics
    Swift, Super Speed, Whirlwind

    Another Possible Epic Pool : Fitness Mastery Epic Pool
    Also open to all AT types.
    Stability LVL 41 ( Acrobatics type power)
    Refresh LvL 41 ( Dull Pain type power)
    Speedup LVL 44 ( Hasten type Power)
    Sound Mind LVL 47 ( Psionic Def [Weave Power])

    Thanks for the quick response.
    I figured there was a good reason for not revamping the power pools.

    It seems there are numerous reasons why that would be a bad idea.
    I forgot about how many alts so people have and what would be involved.
    Your right that would cause Chaos with peoples builds.

    My problem with not having enough power pool options due to certain powers
    being in different pools is not a good enough reason cause massive respecitis.

    Feel free to have them delete this whole thread ASAP.
  14. Looking at the Power Pools, they could use a revamp in IMHO.
    Not only does it take till lvl 14 to get a real travel power, but they seem to be disorganized.

    So with that in mind ill set forth an idea on how to revamp them for the next 5 years.

    The power pools of Flight, Speed and Jumping would be transformed into a Movement Power pool and
    the remaining powers added to other power pools.

    Using the new power pool setup people would be able to have multiple movement
    powers just by selecting more from the movement power pool.

    This would stop the selection of a power pool for the express purpose of gaining access
    to a specific movement power for their hero.

    With respect to the orgainization of the other pools it was done to keep a theme for each pool
    and not done to balance playability.

    I am not sure whether this idea is viable or not, someone who is good with numbers
    or with more insight should be able to judge the consequences of changes this drastic.


    NEW POWER POOLS

    First, here should be a Movement Power Pool.
    Consisting of Super Speed, Super Jump, Fly, Hover and Group Fly
    and whatever other powers they create.

    Second, there would be a Fighting Power Pool.
    Consisting of Combat Jumping, Tough, Weave and Acrobatics, and Whirlwind.

    Third, there would be a Offensive Power Pool.
    Power Pool.
    Consisting of Air Superiority, Boxing, Jump Kick.
    To this pool another 1-2 ranged, AOE or DOT attacks would be a nice addition.

    Fourth, their would be a Fitness Pool.
    Consisting of Hurdle, Swift, Hasten, Health and Stamina.

    The power pools of Concealment, Leadership, Medicine, Presence and Teleportation would remain the same.
    The total number of Power Pools would shrink by one but I feel your options would increase especially if
    new attack powers were added to Offensive Power Pool.

    Feel free to rip me if this idea is game breaking or respond with ideas or opinions of your own.

    How about creating a bank as a means to transfer infl and items, not as a influnece creating operation.
    Heroes get people to do transfers for stuff alot already, this way you will not get ripped off.
    How about the idea of a bank as a means to transferyour money or stuff from one hero to one of your alts.
    You take your extra influence or items and put it in the bank in account under your global name.
    Then you can log on with another hero and collect whatever you want for that hero.
    That way you can have starting money for a new hero or a recipe that you earned on the hero who needed it.

    You earned the infl and stuff through playing the game, you should be able to give it to one of your alts if you so desired.
  16. IMHO, if they cannot stop the endless farming which turns this
    MMO into a single player superhero game,
    this will be last (and worst update ever) in COX history.
    Farms will take over and peeps will cancel due to boredom.

    If I can't have new content without the mind numbing endless farming
    then, take please take MA back.
    I am exhausted by the farming and and the lack of anyone to with whom to team.

    I am soloing a MMO something is very wrong, what gives ??

  17. Subjective- doing a 1-54 lvl mission on lower lvls solo or with limited help is problematic.

    Heroes seem underpowered against custom critters designed I am sure for lvl 50's to fight against.

    Also, the defender powers rad and dark seem ultra powerful against lvl 20 heroes on rugged with DO's.

    Soloing against range powersets with melee heroes very hard in IMHO.

    In general, if the mission creator picks reasonable power lvls for his custom creatures they
    still are too challanging to solo or for lower lvl groups.

    Also in a related problem, hard to judge mission difficulty without some scale on missions.
  18. I do not have a problem with people farming.
    I have done it before and may do it again.
    I am just frustrated with the fact that there is now no one doing other missions.
    Farming to me is ok in moderation, but the amount being done now is obscene.
    If this the new direction then I must leave the CITY of FARMS.
    TOO BORING. I will just PL a couple of alts up and quit.
    I hear some other superhero game(s) are coming out,
    maybe someone that wants to team.
  19. I must agree with you on your observations.
    Since my SG friends not usually on in daytime, I must work with PUG.

    I have no problem with MA in theory, because I like the new enemies created for us to fight and
    the other new content.

    But, I have a big problem with the difficulty of the new missions in MA.
    It maybe because of the enemies or the lack of a difficulty rating on missions
    or the skills of the players in the group but, it is impossible to determine the challange lvl in many cases.

    Many PUG players and noobs crank up the difficulty and run into the mission or farm to
    find it impossible and they all die. Then the PUG dissolves and its over.
    Dying is not really fun and MA has lots of it in my experience.
    I would rather run a mission in the city than to run up incredible debt in AE missions.

    Another big problem is that the city is abandoned now due to AE farms.
    I have no problem with farms until all teaming is gone, and its just a groups of 8
    PLing to 50 in atlas park and the rest of us soloing.

    This MA is worse than WinterLord for PL excess.
    I hope this does not continue, some farming is ok, but it would be better suitted to
    lvl 30 or 40+ zones instead of all zones.

    The Good: A
    New Missions, New Enemies, Create your own Arch-Enemy.

    The Bad: F
    No teaming options other than AE, mostly farming
    No rating of difficulty on MA missions, easy for them to become deathruns.
    No social interaction. Is this a MMO or not ??

    The Ugly: F
    2 days or less time needed to PL to lvl 50.
    No need to leave AE accept to pick your powers at 50.

    Overall rating: D

    As a concept I loved the idea of having more content.
    But as it is now implimented it is a failure.
    Because the rest of the game has disappeared. Farming to me is boring.
    Therefor to me COX is now very boring.

    Making your own missions is great for the RPG aspect, but I tire of trying to find or construct a team.

    Maybe my problem is the server (Freedom) or my login time (daytime) but it is a ghost town outside of AE.

    As far as I am concerned MA has destroyed the social or team concept of COX.
    I might as well go play a single player PS3 game and save my subcription $ and my time.
  21. Made many teams in past, had great teams. Have not had any good teams lately.
    Lucky if I can find someone willing to duo with me. In my experience anything other than AE
    is just not attractive to the players I guess.
    Oh well I guess there is always RL if this gets anymore boring.
  22. Although, I like the new content of MA I find it harder to teamup than it ever has been.
    It maybe because its daytime during the week on Freedom, but it wasn't like this before MA.

    Farms all over the place. Even AP is full of farmers. Outside of AE it is deserted. No teams to join.
    If this problem is not addressed then there will be no reason to play this anymore.
    Without social interaction its just a business, not a MMO. There is no fun left.

    Maybe this is the only way they can continue to stay solvent.
    But, after 4yrs of subscriptions I may need to retire my spandex.

    If I gotta solo all the time or farm then the game isn't fun for me anymore.
    Too bad this was the only MMO that I liked and if this is its new direction of the game
    then GL to NCSoft but I am out.

    IMH, MA will kill COX as we knew it if it is allowed to continue without changes.

  23. I can agree with you on this. I like to have the options of new missions to play but,
    some are ridiculously hard.
    Its impossible to sort through the missions to find something you might like.
    I really like to have ones with custom enemies easier to access.
    I have had enough of standard COX enemies.
  24. Yeah I was wondering if they had Postal drivers, or Private Eye (detective) day jobs?
    Dont remember seeing it but, I assume they have scientist dayjobs with a science origin.
    I was thinking you ought to able to log out at PocketD for a Dj, waiter, host, singer or dancer.


    Just thinking of some origins I had already used for some heroes I play.
  25. I got a couple of heroes who have day jobs as part of their background.
    I have one who is postal delivery man. Another who is a detective.

    So, it seems to me that neither have dayjob spots setup since only certain
    buisness are indentified now in Paragon City.
    I might be mistaken since all dayjobs were not listed on the deveopers diary news
    and I have not read all the posts here either.

    I was also thinking that maybe resturant/bar (like Pocket D) should be included since you can
    have food sevice personel, hosts, entertainers, etc.
