Who here is proud to NOT have a farm toon?
I'm proud I don't call any of my characters "toon", whether I use them to farm or not.
|
These threads just don't list petty enough things for me to be proud of.
I'm proud that I have a bunch of level 50 Defenders instead of Corruptors, because it's a nobler AT.
I'm proud that I always pick Shield Drone or Blue Wisp for my vet pet, because I don't think the oscillators or fairies are aesthetically pleasing.
I'm proud of giving all the poor unloved Detonation, Air Burst, Crushing Haymaker, Essence of Curare, and Ruin pieces a home.
I'm proud my main Blaster is Elec/Elec, because raw damage is so passé.
I'm proud that I have exactly one FotM build character and exactly one catgirl, or otherwise I'd go around acting better than everybody else.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
Farming to me is gaining rewards by redoing the same (often boring) content over and over again. When this reward is xp it is also called power levelling.
With that in mind I am proud to say I never farmed with intent! Everytime I get surprised by something that smells like a boring farm, I leave. I dont care about the rewards... I am not doing something that gets me bored out of my skull in no time and doesnt have any challenges at all!
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!
I've got characters with builds that could probably farm fairly well if I chose to, but I simply don't find the idea of doing repetitive actions to gain more INF/merits/shards/recipes very fun in and of themselves. To me those activities are "open-ended" with no clear goal to achieve.
On the otherhand I have no problem at all doing things that other people might consider "farming" if there's a badge to be had. To me the idea of having a goal and then FINISHING that goal with a badge justifies the fun for me in those cases. I can then move onto different badges and do different things to achieve those. There's a sense of completion with badging that "standard" farming doesn't provide for me.
Regardless, I have no problem with people doing whatever they want to have fun with this game.
Loth 50 Fire/Rad Controller [1392 Badges] [300 non-AE Souvenirs]
Ryver 50 Ele Blaster [1392 Badges]
Silandra 50 Peacebringer [1138 Badges] [No Redside Badges]

I don't farm.
I run story arcs/tips at X8 +2 difficulty.
Huntsman,
Fortunata,
Fire Melee / Energy Aura Brute (This was supposed to suck, but turned out to be a really powerful toon)
Traps/Ice defender (you would be shocked how nasty this toon is solo)
Retired Elec/Ninjitsu stalker (Not worth playing stalkers anymore in light of new raid content)
Retired Spines/Ninjitsus stalker (Not worth playing stalkers anymore in light of new raid content)
Retired Elec/Shield Brute (this toon was so boring to play min maxed)
When something good happens to me, I can never enjoy it....
I am always too busy looking for the inevitable punchline...
BEHOLD THE POWER OF CHEESE!

I have several characters who were FotM to some degree at some point, at least in their choice of powersets, if not their builds. I have no idea what the FotM builds look like.
I also have a DM/SD Scrapper with the Council Empire mission saved, although I run through it maybe once a month. I don't feel either proud or ashamed of this. It sure was convenient when I needed to collect two Incarnate Shards in less than an hour.
The drops/inf ratio is higher for soloists.

I only just got my first 50 two days ago, give me a bit of time!

*Yawn*.............This topic again?
Farming would include repeating a mission just for badge purposes, like Paragon Protector mission. Doing the Same Task Force over for the reward, shards, merits, SHO. Doing Raids like Hami and Rikti Raid more than once. Doing the Same Arc in Ouro many time whether it is for a Temp Pet, or to get the Ouro Badges.
All in all, almost everyone in game has farmed something. |
Oh and I proudly call my characters toons.

I have no catgirls, so I win. Or I would if this was a contest and I actually cared what you play.

Also, the OP should just say the following:
Over 93% of CoH players have tried farming. If you're one of the 7% who haven't and proud of it, post this on your Facebook status. |
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
Sure, vendor trash still gets converted straight to inf.
The rest goes on the market, bolstering supply and hopefully keeping prices lower than they would be if demand completely outstripped supply.
As they're doing it ALONE, they don't have to worry about drops being distributed to other teammates.
If you define a "farm toon" as one expressly designed to run the same map over and over again solely to make influence and drops in the most efficient manner possible, then I've never made a farm toon.
But if your definition includes characters with good defenses and lots of AoE attacks that can wreck havoc over most of the content in the game, then I'm guilty.
But since the sole goal of the game is to wreck as much havoc over the maximal number of foes in the shortest time possible, having pride in your inability to meet that goal seems misplaced.
... y'know, the entire post was a joke (if "These threads just don't list petty enough things for me to be proud of" didn't make it obvious) but apparently not having any catgirls really does make people think they're better than everybody else.

I have met many more people who thought having the uber FotM toon made them better than people who thought not having one made them better.

I have farmed and I have been farmed. Not on all my toons of course.
I see nothing wrong with it at all. What? We're supposed to NOT play a toon in a way that miximizes it's abilities? Or NOT join a team with a toon that is capable of doing so?
Sorry.
While I will admit that this game was flooded by new AE Babies when MA came out, and it was irritating, I still am in favor of farming. Look at it this way...most of the new players that come and farm do not stick around long enough to learn to like the game.
In my case, I've been playing since beta, with few breaks since. I remember the grind this game was originally. It took me a month to get to 17 on a tanker, and to realize I didn't like that toon.
I restarted it as a scrapper and it is my main toon. Played the hard way to 50. After that, I decided I had earned the right to farm...especially since I had taken my time with my main.
And I still do take my time on several toons. Some I actually TURN OFF EXP until I complete their storylines.
So it works both ways.
A silly OP... disappointed in the Storm...
No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded...
"The potato goes in the FRONT."
I'm proud that I've never been enough of a jackass to start a pointless thread in the forums that insults a large portion of the player base.
I farm on average 2 hours a week, I also partake in all the other things available in the game. So, OP, are you better than me?? Get off you high horse and stop insulting people who don't play the same way that you do.
Due to the way inf drops scale a soloer produces less total inf for each item generated than someone on a team which in turn helps lower prices on any items the soloer produces. Farmers tend to be the soloers with the highest efficiency.
Now obviously merits throw a bit of a wrench in that since solo methods for producing them (particularly the methods used by farmers) are less effective than teaming. So for that I thank the speed runners since their general tactics have the effect of decreasing the inf they generate for every merit.
Now if people want to bring market prices down they should aim to produce as much stuff and as little inf as possible which ideally means doing nothing except the following:
1. Stealth tip missions in a group of 8
2. Stealth/speed TFs with the goal of killing as few enemies as possible
3. Farm solo at a high a difficulty as possible
Of course, that isn't necessarily the most enjoyable way to play the game .
um..you realize the ones that spam farmers for p.ls are the ones without farmers themselves or are lazy..which one are you people?
But i REALLY like that mission!
