How much could you gimp a build?

I am talking about things like putting the energy manipulator chance to stun in stamina kinda thing.

Take an AT, pick the appropriate number or slots for each ability, take good abilities and then pick IO's that just wont get the job done.

How well could one design a character to disable and defeat itself.

Well, the chance to stun in Stamina won't work - it was changed to never affect players, both to stop people from stunning themself like you suggested, and to stop griefing via Speed Boost stunning.

If you want a self-defeating character, roll an Energy/Dark brute or Dark/Energy tank, get your recharge as high as possible, stand in the middle of a huge group with Oppressive Gloom running, and Energy Transfer everything that gets in front of you.

I think Group Fly would have to factor in. It's hard to beat for self-debuffing.

Make yourself an SD/Elec. Melee Tank and six slot Grant Cover with Defense/End. Reduction enhancements. Take Charged Brawl, Havoc Punch, Jacob's Ladder, Thunder Strike, and Lightning Rod, and six slot each with efficacy adapter and performance shifter. Go brag to all of your friends about your massive amounts of single target damage; and skimp out on Active Defense, Taunt, and Against All Odds for additional lulz.

It would also help to put as many slots into sprints as possible.

Thats a thought. I could see that being pretty gimped. I have a bots/ff and the attacks are very weak.

With the bonus sprint powers that is a lot of slots.

4. Kinetic Shield: Serendipity End Red, Red Fortune End Red, Luck of the Gambler End Red/Recharge, Gift of the Ancients End Red/Rech

19. Tactics: Adjusted Targetting Recharge, Gaussian's Recharge, Common IO Recharge

20. SuperSpeed: CommonIO endredx3

21. Vengeance: Karma -kb, Serendipity Endred

A note about hover: The kismet only gives the bonus to hit if hover is turned on (I have a scrapper I made this mistake on) and hover has a bug/feature where it stops you outside of melee range of enemies if you try to follow/goto. Very frustrating.

I'm not sure if this is actually worse than blank slotting. But it is pretty close.

Doesn't work anymore, but EM/Regen before they changed MoG. Reduces your health to 25% and kept on spamming Energy Transfer would get you to commit suicide.

Khelds are quite powerful at lower levels. Fly/teleport at lvl 1. Nova at lvl 6.

It is at 50 that people think they dont stand up not leveling up.

I am an impatient man, but even I can wait the 20 minutes it takes to get to lvl 6 and fly/teleport and superjump.

This people dosen't think they are worth leveling up period. All power to folks that do, just can't myself.

Dunno, I think I did a little better gimping my stalker. Putting end reduction into power that have no endurance cost and recharge reduction on toggles and other modifiers that add no effect at all. So the slots are filled but for no game effect. At least yours gets to benefit from the end reduction. Both are totally lacking in accuracy which is key to a gimp build I think.

We should level pact =)

If you are going to make a gimped build, you don't put any enhancements into anything.

What some of the other posters in this thread seem to be overlooking is that the proposal is to make good power and slot placement choices and then use sets that harm the character's performance. In my opinion the only way to do that and make the character perform worse than using nothing or regular IOs and Sos is to pick a build that has a focus on melee combat with multiple powers that cause knockback and then slot knockback sets wherever possible. i think i could still make it work well on most maps, but it would arguably be worse than no slotting at all.

From what I can tell most of the ability to kill yourself has been removed. Burn sometimes gets a bug where you damage yourself. But all other implementations I know of are removed. There's a few cases where you can give endurance to the enemy by slotting performance shifter into an attack, but I don't know of any where you can heal them (panacea proc in siphon life maybe?). And you certainly can't kill yourself or your allies.

Which leaves you trying to find a way to impair things. I agree knock is a good one. And in that case the ideal candidate may actually be a peacebringer because they take knock in most powers.

Probably a human/dwarf build with a focus on the melee attacks; that's the ticket!

True.

I am enjoying seeing all the builds though.

The SO one amused me quite a bit. It made me wonder if any had actually done that, like for real, not knowing better and then gotten frustrated because the game is too hard.

The other posted builds have been wonderful too.

The idea about feeding mobs endurance didn't occur to me.

So, I wonder how much endurance could you send to the wrong place with electric control / kinetics? I think /kin is designed to use the end mod right though.

How about a dominator..... Electric control / electric blasts..... Hmmm I need to go load up mids.

Posted

Everyone knows that Elec/Elec dominator is about sapping, right?

This isnt exactly the power/slot assignments I would make for a 'real' character, however, I also think just by changing the content of the slots without changing the powers or moving a slot the character could go from total gimp to reasonable effective solo and teamed.

Ah and for the Alpha, Spiritual.

I wish there was a 'test' room, maybe part of AE, where you can make and try test builds and see what this guy could do to a team.

Maybe someone on the Dev team has the time?
