Just compare a Hamidon Dam/Range to a Hydra Dam/Range. And, for fun, we'll throw in a Positron's Blast Dam/Range.
Hamidon: +33% Damage/ +20% Range
Hydra: +25% Damage/ +15% Range
Positron's Blast: (level 40) +24.1% Dam/ + 14.5% Range
I think most people just take reward merits for completing the trials anyway.

I think changing all the Hami-/Hydra-/Titan-O's to match the new(-ish) Going Rogue pre-order enhancements would be a good idea. ie, fixed enhancement value, and a level listed on them which only determines when you can equip them.
Levels of the enhancements would have to be taken into consideration, since they have some variance, and there's combined varieties floating around too.

No. Not unless Villains can get them.

That said, there's no reason - given the hydra types were hauled in by the Rikti - why a trial around the same theme wouldn't be introduceable villainside.

Can they be changed from Single Origin Enhancement type to Invention Origin at least so they don't get out leveled? The level can remain the same but I don't know anyone who's ever bothered with them.
Hamis will still be stronger in any event because of the level difference.
