On IO +HP Set Bonuses and the Damage Taken Badges...

Common Wisdom: +HP Set Bonuses bork the Damage Taken badges. Unless you can exceed your "unnatural" +HP, you will not receive credit for damage you take.

Last Night: Playing on my main. A few hundred extra HP through set bonuses. I've been watching to see one of my badge progress meters exceed one of my old "I'll never get that one, so why bother" badges. It's a Damage Taken badge. But every time I go and check...they're still evenly distanced from each other.

An hour passes. Still evenly distanced. What is going on?

I stop in front of a mob. Take damage. The Damage Taken badge meter...increased. It went up. And the amount it went up by...was the exact amount of damage my character took. Defeat mob, find another, and test. Same results. Rinse and repeat. Try a different mission. Same results. The Damage Taken badge is...working?

Query: This is fixed? Can someone look into this and see what madness is afoot?

TL;DR: Can someone else check this out?

It used to be that only base HP counted for damage taken badges, most likely to prevent people "farming" the badges with CoT damage emanators and the like.

At some point in the middling past, it was changed without overt mention so that all damage counted.

I mentioned it seemed to be corrected a couple issues back... or at least that was my observation as well.

But the way it works right now, even small damage like 10 HP is credited toward the damage badge, so you don't have to overcome your bonus HP as it was in the past.

This has been my recent experience as well. Even if you stand in a fire on a Tank with the HP at maximum, each tick seems to be counting toward the badge, regardless if you are below your base HP or still at full health.
Not many people seemed to notice though. lol

they fixed these badges like 1-2 months after i finished getting immortal on my main

if they had fixed it like 6 months earlier it would have saved me from spending half of last summer dmg farming lol

Huzzah, I'm less crazy than I thought.

Thanks, peeps.

I've never farmed the damage badges, just because that kind of runs counter to my personal metric for "fun." Maybe, now that it's significantly easier, we'll see what I run into.

I am so glad.

My WP brutes were not getting anywhere on theirs.
Maybe now...

It seemed fun to me. I like sleeping.

Yeah, it was one of the few badges, besides day job badges, that I could earn while going to the movies, reading a book, sleeping, going to work, etc.

Yay!

So what's the most efficient way to farm these stupid things these days? In a few weeks, I should earn the ten million damage badge on my main and primary character who I've been playing since April of 2004. At this rate, it'll take another (9*7) sixty-three years.

Same as always - farming it.
Find an enemy with a slow-recharging, big attack.
Pop some purples so you can activate Rest right next to it.
Ideally, they will nail you for epic damage, the one-shot code will save you, and you heal to full before the next hit.

Some people recommend one of the Rikti bosses. I used a Rularuu Brute.

Fixed.

Since the AI was changed some time last year(?), those Rikti bosses now use 2 attacks and kill you, so that's no good anymore. (Unless it changed again)

I have not done any damage farming since the change, but I do have a character that still needs it, so maybe I'll give that Brute a try when I finally get around to it.

the way i dmg farmed was i get rikti monkeys in monster island (i used no more than 2 because i was a mm lol) and let them burn their end, then i would go into rest and just let them beat on me, and they would rarely kill me unless a stray mob or wandering mob would join in

I've been using Maria Jenkins' first mission, the new pratorian arc. Get about two or three Behemouths and just stand there waiting for them to hit me. I was set for -1 and they hit only enough to hurt for a little bit before my regen kicked in (about 13 hp/sec).

I've also seen someone farm damage in Mercy using the GM code fires.

Is it still better to eat a bunch of blues, purples, and breakfrees and go into Rest?

If you're using purples, what are the blues and break frees needed for?
