I have a feeling that you missed something in what I posted. DPI doesn't matter for the computer. Pixel dimension does. 300 dpi of an 8 x 10 gives you a pixel dimension of 2400 x 3000(and that is not good to upload, which you seem to think I said you could). 72 dpi of that 8 x 10 would give you a pixel dimension of 576 x 720. Meanwhile, if you just set the pixel dimensions to 576 x 720 and leave the dpi alone at 300, it'll look exactly the same and take up the same amount of storage space as the 72 dpi; the difference is that the 300 dpi 576 x720 would print out a lot smaller.

The discussion we were having was basically about not accidentally losing your hard work, by compressing it the wrong way, and negotiating the various viewing/output formats, so that your work continues to look as good as it did when you created it.

PS: I've 5-stared this thread - have you?
I get what you're saying, sir, and I think Camille does, too, but from an artist's POV, more pixels means more art, more details, more creativity. And even digital artists (perhaps secretly) crave seeing their work 'in print', 'in reality', and getting whatever praise it has earned. Hence, the ubiquitous 'click here to see it larger' and 'you'll have to download the big file, to see all of the details'.
|
Also, I am a digital artist, so you don't need to tell me about what digital artists like.
edit: And when saving a version for the web, it should always be a separate file than the original. Never save, always save as and choose a new name. And work/save incrementally; you never know when you might want to go back to an older version.

Sorry about the ad popups, usually you can click out of it.

Also, if you're into the whole "Kirby Dots" effect, there's actually a free photoshop filter out there for it.

I'll go see if there's a simular way for Paint Shop Pro aswell.

@Camille- Re SAI
Thank you so much for demoing this application! I was struggling to get good lines in Photoshop, you're three videos were actually quite helpful, and SAI is IMMENSELY helpful. I'm actually going to be buying the full version this weekend.
It helped make me less likely to constantly undo and try drawing a line over again.
No problem! That is exactly how I felt when a friend recommended it to me. I was complaining about my lines in photoshop and she told me Sai fixes that for you so I tried it and fell in love. The fact that it can open and save psd files is also amazing. It's drawing/painting tools are great too but it can't do any text so that took some getting used to for things like the comics I do.

Just did tonight, still a WIP:

This is by far my favorite thread, which I have been lurking in for weeks... I should post something, but not sure what... open to suggestions.

You have a really great start going there. You might want to increase the head (yay for transform tools!* If you don't know how to do that in Sai I'll make you a vid to explain it (It took me forever to figure it out)

Edit > select/deselect
then work through selecting the lines you want to transform, then ctrl + t.

has really nice hair so I'm thinking a brief tutorial or some quick tips on how you achieved that look would be very helpful.

Ah that is from a special brush, but I believe I could show people how to make it... or get the same effect. I'll work on that tonight...
Anyone have any good tips for how to turn a game screenshot into more of a comic book or cel-shaded look? I've seen a few tutorials that do some flattening and drawing lines over the screenshot, but I have no talent for that. (Drawing with a mouse is like painting with a brick, for me.)
I'm a rank amateur when it comes to Photoshop, but I can pull off some of the simpler photomanipulation stuff. On one of Vexxxa's themed TF runs, we were to dress as someone else's character, so I went as Feral Kitty. I grabbed a screenshot of him (Feral TomKat) fishing, then decided he'd probably be smiling, so I used the Liquify filter in Photoshop to give him a Mona Lisa smile.
Still working on creating a convincing "open mouth" look for characters who are speaking.

Warden of God, ScooterTwo or maybe BubbaWheat might have some good ideas in that regard.
Henri actually had a comic going from game screencaps but they were more staged
than modified in post, and he hasn't said anything in quite a while.
*scratches brick painting off of to do list*
Off the top of my head I would suggest using an image with the exact measurements written down. An animator would use register marks to keep track of the positioning of the main figure. But if you use the same size, it should hold up. SO:
1) Find a tute to turn the image into black line, without altering the size.
2) Find a tute to blur the color enough, into a sort of cell shaded look, that blurs the outline. Probably a filter that turns the image into blobs of color.
3) Then make a new layer over that color, with your black line image set to multiply, and it should look "like a comic" in theory.
I would try this for you, but I'm knee deep in hair drawing atm. And I only got 2 days left here.
Ironik: Have you tried Be Funky.com
Using their artsy filters, I made an underpainting, then a sketcher version, then in photoshop, put the sketcher on a new layer over the underpainting and changed that layer to multiply...
hope that helps.
Well I know several people here are working on making more believable hair, that pic of Ultimo you just posted

Here's a hair great color hair chart I found to use for reference:

Off to work on the actual tips part... brb

Okay I hope this makes sense...

I forgot to add that the hard brush is set to 70% opacity for the dark underlayer...
So I think I figured this out, looks like you have to select the lines you want:
Edit > select/deselect then work through selecting the lines you want to transform, then ctrl + t. ![]() |
when you're doing it on a line work layer you can use the select brush to grab the area you want then in the select drop down choose Select CP's in selection then you can move those selected points. or transform them, etc etc

So it's been a while since we were here , but I just "discovered" the way of furs and thought I'd share
.
Perhaps some of you already noticed...but I've been practising furdrawing in PSP9.
Though PSP or PS it doesn't really matter . The outcome is the same mostly anyway.
Here's my practise result (with extra smudging for my personal interest) (perhaps one can find some logic in it):
And I'll put in a great tutorial that I used (though there are more references when you click my practise image ).
There's also a hair / fur brush available now for my fellow PSP users. <- click it!
Enjoy! *waves*

I save everything large, you never know when you'll need to print something, and where it matters is file size. Sure I could throw up a 300 dpi of an 8 x 10 but it would be a few megs large, a 72 would only be a few hundred K
