I'm not sure how much of it applies it's been a while since I used PSP

Well, the tools are different, or at least have different names, but how it's done can be done in PSP aswell. Just takes a bit more figuring out, that's all .

This had dropped off a few pages so I totally missed Cami's tutorials! The coloring on traditional pencils was SO helpful! I have fought and fought with that on my son's drawings to the point I gave up on a few. Now I can actually go in and do some work there. Thanks Cami! Another great thread CR.

Uploading new tutorial now it just takes a few hours cause of the file size.

I THINK I've fixed the popping noise so the vid I'm uploading now should be the last with it.
Sadly I do not have the finished edited pic because my comp locked up and I had to restart without saving

Photoshop mantra?

SAVE OFTEN!!!

Strike all that I had to rerecord it to get it under 10...don't know why I forgot about that, will be up today though

The clone stamp tool and me are good friends already (from fixing up vacation photos) but I'm just starting to figure out
what the healing brush can do (not sure there is anything quite like it in GIMP or PSP though). Good info Camille and thanks for sharing it.

There indeed is no "Healing Brush" in PSP .
I've obtained a copy of PS in the mean time... though it has a lot of the same features as PSP it does have a little more, but is displayed... quite differently! That takes a lot of getting used to.

Ok so I have done pencils, selecting, cloning and healing. Should I do coloring inked lines next? Digital inking? vector vs raster?

Also a lil fyi is that I broadcast most nights at 8pm central at http://www.livestream.com/avernyght
I also save all of my broadcasts.
So they are less tutorial and more exhibition but that is available. Be warned they are HOURS long and I do sing along to my music >_>;;;

I vote Digital Inking. It seems there are alot of different methods and I've yet to find one that works for everything. Maybe that's the key though it there are different methods for a reason.

Heh alright it might have to be a 3 parter though :} I know of a few ways and just changed methods myself.

How about making of a realistic pencil brush? Any experience with that?
I've seen a few tutorials (also a video or two on youtube) and Pirate Cashoo even tried to help me recreate the custom one she uses but so far no luck in getting something that behaves like a realistic pencil in PS. Not sure if there are better tools in SAI or Painter or any of the other apps but the default one in PS is nothing like a pencil, they really ought to call it something else.

I'd be interested in some digital inking too. While my current goal is to preserve as much of my pencilwork as is feasible when coloring that wont always work for other styles I might want to try down the road, it never hurts to expand the skillset.

The brush I use for "pencils" doesn't really replicate real pencils but I could try to make one that does. If Pirate Cashoo has photoshop and doesn't mind sharing she could save the brush as an abr file and then anyone with photoshop equivalent to hers can use it.

I will try tonight if I can figure it out I will put something up. I know there is a brush pack out there because Dagger Point had been doing sketch commissions with a new set he'd bought

I think you may want to give MyPaint a try. I forget how to link text to a web address atm, so it is http://mypaint.intilinux.com/

I downloaded Ramon all in one and Deevad4 brushpacks from here:

http://wiki.mypaint.info/Brush_Packages

Ramon has lots of videos, but he explains his pencil brushes in this one:

http://www.youtube.com/user/TheShock.../0/pUrs02n7Lvw

It's a free program and has no editing capabilities other than undo, flip and basic layers, but I think it is perfectly fine for doodling. Unfortunately it doesn't save in PSD if you wish to preserve layers, but I think you can use Gimp to convert. For my February fanart I just saved in PNG for final tweak in Photoshop.

ok I found this:http://paullasaine.blogspot.com/2008...cil-brush.html

But didn't do it. I mean I just started playing with brushes and got something I like and I will explain how I did that in a tut but it will be more of a tut on how to make your own brushes. It's up to you to get the kind of brush you want.

Cool! I'll go check it out.
I would like to get something set up for photoshop
eventually but in the short term this could help. Thank you LD.

@Cami: Great I've tried making a few brushes but don't have the hang of it yet
so I eagerly await your tutorial. Thank you for all you are contributing to this thread. I appreciate it.

Eh I'm a teacher I have a need to share. I always say what's the point of having knowledge if you don't share it!

Spent the passed few days working on my SG's monthly newsletter so I will make the tuts on Wednesday

Great! I watched em all. I've heard about SAI but never knew what set it apart from the other apps out there.
Thanks for illustrating this (and putting it in three parts so we can see the differences) for us.

P.S. The word you are looking for (in video3) is ability.

you always like to correct me don't you :P

More great info Cami! Vecters takes some major practice. I tried it for a bit and I got frustrated pretty quickly. I tried it in CS3 though not Illustrator but I figured they'd be the same or very similar right? Could just be my impatience though.

Just trying to be helpful. You were stuck at one point and said you were trying to think of a good word
and that you didn't like Freedom as everything has constraints. It's around 4½ minutes into the video.

I think Ability was the word you were looking for.

Vectors in Photoshop are like pure basic nothing...if you want real vector action you need to be in Illustrator or a free equivalent like Inkscape
And yeah they take a while to get used to but they do have perks. Namely the infinite scaling.

Yeah what I'm finding in PS is that they don't have the spots to click and adjust AFTER you've made the line. Which makes it harder to me to get a cleaner line than just using a brush and the tablet.
