Marvel packs its bags....
They should also take some cues from the new Avenger's cartoon. They way they introduced Wakanda was great.
Iron Man was flying a Quinjet over Wakanda and the Black Panther tells him this wasn't the flight plan he charted out and they need to turn around. IM reminds BP that he's in a Quinjet made by Stark Industries and it's so advanced he doubts he even needs to turn on the stealth-mode. The Quinjet gets shot down and the Black Panther says "Wakandan technology is more advanced."
The Black Panther movie could be good but I'm still hoping for a Luke Cage/Jessica Jones movie as well. I guess they couldn't call it Alias for obvious reasons though lol.
The Black Panther has long been a favorite of mine, so this is potential good news for me. I'm not sure how well some of his distinctive features would translate to a movie, though. Aside from his interesting superpower (ruling his own Ruritanian country), the thing I find most interesting about the Black Panther is that he's usually portrayed as a character whose greatest power is a super-genius brain and the ability to plan effectively, which doesn't necessarily make for the same kind of narrative tension in a movie as it can in print. The Black Panther needs to be more than some African guy who wears black and kicks people. We'll see, I guess.

You do realize, with the exception of being the ruler of a country, that is essentially the same "powers" that Batman has?

I can just hear the ******** over the black superhero being from Africa already.
It will be interesting to see how they try to balance the primal and technological in the film, though. I'm also curious to see if they manage to write it without having T'Challa come to America.

There's a Black Panther DVD that just got released
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1441105/
http://www.amazon.com/Marvel-Knights...5634678&sr=8-1
It's six episodes from a animated series that only ran in Australia. I haven't seen it yet but I was on a team with an Aussie and they said it was a pretty good series.

People are already blogging about potential actors like Djimon Hounsou.
Seems like he'd be perfect for the part, he's an award winning actor and certainly looks like he could portray him physically.
At 47 he is also old enough to portray a king of stature and experience (for heavens sakes Marvel don't give some kid in his twenties the role).
Besides, he'll be in the short-running for the part for sure having previously voiced the Marvel animation.

The worst thing they could do with that is follow the tired formula of the hero struggling to deal with this other way of life. However, if they decide to take it the other way and have T'Challa deal with these things normally or even look down on some elements of the American surroundings since Wakanda is so advanced, it'll require some better writing. And I hope they can avoid just making Black Panther exactly like Batman.

That would be stupid, he needs to look the part.

I'd love for there to be a scene where Iron Man enters Wakandan air space only to be popped by some of their tech and then have to stand toe to toe with the Black Panther. Also, why would the Black Panther NEED to come to America in his movie? I remember a little movie called District 9 that was completely not based in America that was a fairly large hit and made some NON-American actors pretty darn famous. Just saying!
Speaking of that I'd love to see the BP movie shot similar to that movie. I think they integrated the alien technology into regular footage pretty well. I don't mean the movie needs to be shot "news footage" style but rather the ability to make it feel real even with obvious CGI work.
So sign me up for a ticket!

I wouldn't mind seeing Mahershalalhashbaz Ali get more work, so I'll throw his name in with guys who I think could pull it off.
There's also Chiwetel Ejiofor.
And Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

Power Man and Iron Fist vs. the obvious choice of villians: Sabertooth and Constrictor.
... Hit it ...

I hope they don't make him a Batman clone like they have done in recent history.
If we are nominating actors for the role of the Black Panther I nominate
Chiwetel Ejiofor
He was vicious in the Firefly movie and his role in Red Belt was very zen master.
Red Belt had a lot of fight choreographing that involved grappling and MMA style fights. If that was BP's fighting style in the movie that would help set him apart from batman in some small way. For the opening action scence have a second stringer like Rhino get taken down by BP using a rear neaked choke or a omaplata.
I'm interested in how Captain America's fighting style will be, will he use the large lopping roundhouses that was popular in old movies, the tight boxing style you find in television today, or will he be a big kicker. If he's a kicker I want to see him drop kick a nazi of the top of a base or castle.

Since I saw the most recent Hulk I've really felt that they way Emil Blonsky(Time Roth) fought Hulk in that one scene on the open field is how Cap should fight. I loved that scene and it felt very plausible for Captain America.
I think the big thing Black Panther the movie needs o do is differientiate BP's powers from Iron Man and Captain America. he is sort of a cross power-wise between them. That may not be as easy to do though without looking like a rip-off to non-comic folks.

For Wakanda. They've hired a writer; Mark Bailey, Black Panther is back on Feige's to-do list as a Marvel live-action film.
I couldn't find the long-running CoH thread "Why are there no black Superheroes?" - it looks like a Black Panther film (in my opinion) could fit well in the second wave of Marvel films coming after The Avengers with Black Panther, Sub-Mariner(Namor), Dr.Strange all being previously hinted at by Feige.
I think a storyline involving Wakanda's huge reserves of Vibranium would be great. We all know Marvel have been loosely following 'The Ultimates' for their continuity. Involving Wakanda and vibranium it is as follows in the comics;
In the movie's sequel, Ultimate Avengers II, large amounts of Vibranium is found in Wakanda. Dr. Bruce Banner is able to discover that in the previous Chitauri attack, the Hulk was able to smash their ships without any effort. He learns that Vibranium turns to brittle on exposure to gamma radiation.
