Probly been posted before But I was watching "The Movie Hero" on Netflix and in the opening scenes I was hearoing the theme and was confused how did i start the game? turns out its in the movie.

Was Stephane Thomas Cavit (the composer in the movie) or Brad T. Gottfred (the director) friends with the early cryptic studios?

Probably not. If I'm not mistaken, at least some of the music that shipped originally with the game was acquired from a source that licenses music to anyone willing to pay for royalties. I've heard the theme music in a commercial before, and now and then, I catch it on shows like TMZ during segments, likely licensing it from the same source.

I don't know how much of the City of Heroes music is/was composed exclusively for the game. Maybe they should consider getting some new original music to replace the older music.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

Only ones I'd think (safely) are exclusive are for GR - after all, if it weren't owned by NC/PS, I don't think they could have released it as a soundtrack.

The CoH theme was composed by Kevin Manthei, if I remember right. A lot of the stuff he uses is royalty-free loops, so chances are he slapped together a bunch of stuff that's readily available to anyone with an internet connection.

I'm pretty sure that the music in Cimerora was made just for the game too.

I know it isn't exactly "original", but if they do try to make/add new music I know who they need to go to.

I recall one day, my wife was flipping through the channels, and landed on TMZ. I was in the kitchen, but I swore I heard music from Blyde Square playing

Thank you, Champion.

Holy crap, those are awesome! Is there a way to make my game play those songs instead?

There is one particular area in Atlas Park that has music that sounds EXACTLY like music from one of the Sims games. Seeing this, it could actually be the same music, before, I just thought it was coincidence or my imagination.

So I know there is a guide to silence specific power sound effects somewhere out there. Is there a way to make these songs play instead of the original?

I don't think so. Best I could suggest is turn the music volume all the way down, open iTunes (or whatever music player you have), set it to repeat all, and have fun.

That's what I did while playing STO. Just downloaded a bunch of Star Trek songs to iTunes, shut the in-game music off, and then just played the ST music.

When it was announced that they brought on Jason Graves (Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Graves) to do the score for Going Rogue, I was so incredibly delighted. I really, really, really wish that CoH and CoV, but mostly CoH would get some new music.

This works best with 8-man teams and the Epic Orchestra group Two Steps From Hell.

I was just now playing a mod for the Half Life 2 episode 1 engine, and sure enough in a "tv broadcast" in the game, the Hero side fanfare was the music for it.

Shame the mod stinks, but hey. Recognized the music so it most certainly is merely licensed.

Yes... there is. Essentially the silencing of sounds is replacing those sounds (just like icons are replaced in packs by Vanden or Corva) with a short track of silence. Soooo, one could simply name a file the right thing, place it in the right directory (assuring it is the right file-type) and it would replace that sound. Though it may be important to make sure that the length of the track matches up, though that may not matter, I am unsure.

However, to find the right files and right directories would require a LOT of messing in the PIGGs and a LOT of trial and error I should think.

I would like Chris Vrenna and Tracy W Bush to do some music for CoX.... they did some *stunning* music for Tabula Rasa

Actually yes. There is a program which will do it for you. I'm not entirely sure I'm allowed to discuss on the forums and am reluctant to name it.

Glad you liked the tracks btw

I haven't updated it in forever and doesn't even have a host anymore, but Splasher can do that in Windows XP or in Windows Vista/7 if you run it in Administrator mode (possibly with UAC disabled only). If you run it in regular user mode, UAC from Vista/7 gets in the way and doesn't let it do its thing.

I tried changing the Villains Login music and it isn't working. Can only get the Heroes Login music changed, and the Villain music is my favorite of the two that OminousVoice has made! Doh.
