I'm looking to build a new Brute but want one that can take a beating. I want a build for running on teams or tf. I'm not a fan of Stone Armor but i'm open to anything else. I was thinking SR or SD. Let me know what you think and why. Thanks for any replies.

Claws/inv.

With inherent stamina it's no longer quite so painful early on, you get pretty much your entire attack chain by level 6, and you get allll that Invulnerable durability plus aggro holding.

You'll never be tanker tough, but you can be plenty tough enough, and you get the joys of Claws:

Followup, Focus, Spin, repeat.

Ive got a DM/SR had he is damn near unkillable, tanking mutliple AVs at one. But ive been thinking soft capped /SD might even be tougher, as well as making up for DM/'s semi-lackluster dmg.

Between your choices, I'd probably choose SR though it is a close call. The advantage of SR is that TFs these days (villain side at least, don't know about hero side) are stacked with def debuffing mobs. With that in mind, the high DDR of SR is very important. SD's DDR is only average so if you go that route, I'd pair it with a primary that has good AoEs (Elec, SS, FM, WM) and pick up another Targeted AoE attck from APP. Combined with Shield Charge from SD, you'll just be taking the "kill them before they can kill you" route.

If you really want survivability but not enough to go for Stone Armor, Invuln is the second toughest defensive powerset out there.

I personally like Elec Armor, due to its great resistances, sapper immunity, and Energize. If you get it to the S/L defense softcap not a lot of things can stop it.

Auroxis - Emp/Rad/Power Defender Pylon Video Soloing an AV
Pelvic Thunder - SS/Elec/Mu Brute
Sorajin - Elec/Nin Stalker
Neuropain - Sonic/Mental/Elec Blaster

I view my SS/DA brute as the 'take it anywhere' character. Doesn't matter what enemies I'm facing, performance is consistent and very good. Invuln is tougher vs S/L, but cries vs Psi/Special. SR and SD will be awesome (softcapped) against anything that doesnt have good tohit buffs (and enemies that do will slaughter you). Etcetera.

Thx for all the replies. I might try a DM/SR or SS/SR. I'm leaning towards DM cause of siphon life.

/Dark Armor with good recharge, a +end proc in Dark Regeneration, 1 or 2 perf. Shifter procs, soft-capped S/L, and about 35% to E/NE is almost impossible to kill and pretty much indefatigable.

with or without IO's?

Willpower with a S/L capped build (as my Claw/WP has) is straight out nasty layerd on top of all that regen.
Outside of WP, Invul gets the nod.

The best TF Brute is the one you like to play best.

Enjoy your day please.

This.

Unless you're aiming to solo the TFs, any brute you enjoying playing and play well will rock a task force with a team.

Soloing them is a whole different can of worms, one I have no experience with.

I enjoy my Claws/Elec Brute a whole lot on TFs. He's tough enough to go toe to toe with EBs and AVs, he only runs out of endurance when I use the Tier 9, and he cuts through mobs like an chainsaw.

I have a friend with a SS/Fire Brute who runs TFs with me pretty often, and his damage is VERY impressive. He just about has Healing Flames on auto, but he rarely get killed. Between the two of us and our friend the Fire/Kin, we've killed SF in the game that doesn't require GR, since I haven't bought it yet.

Too many alts to list.
