We've got people ERPing with robots, androids, aliens, demons, angels, undead and everything else we can create in this game. I don't understand the idea that adding in more animal parts will increase this.
A friend of mine plays a bunch of catgirls. None of them are ERP catgirls, they're all fierce things with claws catgirls. I mentioned to a friend "oh, she plays mostly catgirls", and then about a minute later said "I mean fierce things with claws catgirls." And got a relieved "oh, is THAT what you mean, okay".

I'm pretty sure we're not going to get the animal parts that makes it look like the avatar is wearing an animal costume - we'll get genuine animal parts, like that eagle head

I agree, I think we'll have actual animal head and limb replacements. But if there are costume pieces, I think slim costume parts like the Neko-mimi is wearing in my first post are more likely than the oversized, sports-mascot style costume shown in the latter image.

Gosh, that sports mascot style costume with the purple hair looks terribly stuffy, heavy and hot to wear.

I was looking for a nice Squirrel Girl pic to bring it back around to super heroes (you know the character who beat up Thanos and a whole list of others) but I got....distracted.
If the costume is meant to inspire terror...well, it doesn't
I mean, have you seen some of the cosplayers around? Those that play characters who are the opposite gender, usually very badly? I find that freakier myself XD

Casual denigration of catgirls is a norm in CoH. Usually for more humorous than malicious effect, but there are number of posters who ascribe every conceivable moral failing they can think of to anyone who plays a catgirl or any other animal-featured character.
