Best of 2010
I think they should have burned the quiter's torches right then and there the night they quit. Kick em off the jury, freeze them out of the reunion show.
Heck I would put a quiting clause in their contract saying they can be sued by the show for damaging the season.
They don't even get a copy of the home game.

Yeah that was me, Russell was the best thing to happen to Survivor in years.

For Me; On Topic:
Best TV Show/s: "Spartacus: Blood And Sand" & "The Walking Dead"
Best Movies: "Tron" & "Inception"
Best DC comics: Green Lantern & Blackest Night
Best Marvel comics: Siege, War Of Kings & The Thanos Imperiative
Best Independent comics: Dynamites' Green Hornet & Vampirella
TV Show: Supernatural - consistently amazing writing and it's not about 'regular crap' which gets it a 5 pt head start
Movie: Kickass - Inception was good, but the hype kinda killed it for me, and Kickass was solid. Red would be my second choice.
Book: Towers of Midnight - sadly the only one I read this year (that was released this year), although I did write one. I like what Sanderson has done with WoT, as you can just feel the tension grow as the end nears.
For TV show I'm going to say Sons of Anarchy.

Favorite Comic:
Chew. Hands down. What a weird premise but such great execution. The writing and art is just so phenomenal every issue.
quickly looks that up. hay dave, remember from the all things art thread, we were talking about steam-punk/ Victorian booster costumes? ...keep looking at that comic...

Movie - gotta go with Kickass here.
Album - Black Mountain, Wilderness Heart A solid year for music, with new albums by some of my favorite artists (Black Mountain, Espers, Black Angels, Joanna Newsom) and solid performances from artists I grew up listening to (Neil Young, Robert Plant).
Comics - Gotta agree with Power Girl. Bad year for the comics I read. Too many crossovers, too many Bold New Directions that fizzled.
<《 New Colchis / Guides / Mission Architect 》>
"At what point do we say, 'You're mucking with our myths'?" - Harlan Ellison
Best graphic novel:
Planetary: Spacetime Archaeology by Warren Ellis, John Cassaday and Laura Martin The final chapter in the Planetary story was delayed due to the problems with getting the final issue completed, but it finally hit the shelves and saw the team at its best and at its worst. Snow waged his war against The Four to protect the planet from the dire threat they represented, but then turned his attention to something more personal: trying to save a former colleague they'd thought dead for years. This was a great wrap up to one of the best series in comics.
Best movie:
Inception by Christopher Nolan Lots of solid movies this year, but this is the only one that got me into the theater twice. Runner up: Toy Story 3.
Best soundtrack:
Inception, by Hans Zimmer
BWWAAAAAAAUUUUUUMMMMM
Best album:
Brothers, by The Black Keys Bluesy duo lay down some pretty original tracks on this album. I think Satanic Hamster mentioned them to me some time ago during a Victory Forum COH channel chat. I checked them out and was not disappointed.
Best TV show:
Tough to pick just one, so I'm splitting this up:
Best TV Show = "The Venture Brothers." Season 4 started and wrapped up, and oh, what a Season it was. Henchman 21 got himself into fighting shape as he tried to track Henchman 24's killer. Did I also mention he was being haunted by 24's ghost and kept 24's skull around to talk to? Also, they had to kill the reincarnation of Hitler, Hank and Dean graduated from "high school" and had to come of age on their own, we finally learned who Captain Sunshine was, Brock joined SPHINX (sphinx!) as part of a ruse to root out some moles buried deep within OSI, Sgt. Hatred took over as the Venture family bodyguard and the Monarch kept failing at his attempts to destroy Dr. Venture. The season ended with what was probably the best written episode of the series to date with the boys having their home-school prom. The best news? Season 5 is officially on.
Best New Show = "The Walking Dead." I had my doubts during the first bits of the first episode, but those were quickly laid to rest. Gripping, emotional, disturbing and completely intense. This show was a complete thrill ride.
Runner up = "Justified." This was another show that I was anticipating. It's based on some short stories by Elmore Leonard and depicts the life of a U.S. Marshall (Timothy Olyphant -- in a role he was clearly born to play) as he's forced to return to his Kentucky roots. Walton Goggins shines as a recurring villain in the series, and it's coming back in February.
Best video game: Mass Effect 2 by Bioware. The end battle was a little odd to me, but the whole suicide mission brought some of the most intense sequences I've ever experienced in a video game. Maybe it played out like "The Empire Strikes Back" or "The Two Towers" as a set up to the third installment, but it was pretty darned good. Runner up: Red Dead Redemption by RockStar, which took me completely and utterly by surprise. Seriously, I think I'd seen almost no build up to the game (or maybe just wasn't paying attention), but this took the Grand Theft Auto IV model of an open world game, changed the setting to the Wild West, and then removed all the annoying bits that were in Grand Theft Auto IV. PERFECT!
Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!
Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.
Honestly, compared to the last two seasons, it wasn't the same without Russell.

As for quitters, if Probst, who is a producer, if not an executive producer, really hated them, they wouldn't have, and in my opinion shouldn't have, been on the jury.
Finally, regarding the casting process, it's my understanding that the producers look for pretty faces and/or hard bodies more so than good players, which always backfires because either the eye candy gets voted off right away, thus defeating the purpose of casting them in the first place, or worse, they stick around and you end up with a bunch of dopes like this season that don't understand the game and can't, or don't want to, play it.
Go back to using people who truely want to be on the show to win a million dollars and stop casting pretty boys and wannabe models who only want on the show to further their "Acting" careers.
I don't hate the Redemption Island idea as much as I hated the season where they just arbitrarily put two people who'd been voted off back in the game, but I'm not loving it either. I'll reserve final judgement until I see how it plays out though.
Sorry for the threadjack, but you guys started it.

Ah, the nonconformist retort. I forgot how popular it is to go against the majority.
Were you foaming at the mouth when Russell won People's Choice twice in a row?

well warden, i was referring to this pic but yours is pretty much what i was going for, the bustier/leather vest combo with the puffs at the arm tops. he does that and my card is flying, i have a few steampunk chars as well as a cowgirl concept in mind, and that would be pretty much exactly what i was asking for. so completely agreed, good find ps, can we do something like the skirt and pistol too? the rifle is nice as well.
Good to see Survivor getting mentions, "Heroes Vs. Villains" was my favourite TV last year. I was worried about the format, and players coming back for a third time, but all the crazy twists and turns made it a great watch. Good job by Sandra to win again.
My favourite movie was probably Toy Story 3, but there's still a few late releases I need to see.
As for music, here's some of my picks for best album, in alphabetical order:
Arcade Fire, "The Suburbs"
The Black Keys, "Brothers"
Free Energy, "Free Energy"
Frightened Rabbit, "The Winter of Mixed Drinks"
Kanye West, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy"
Janelle MonĂ¡e, "The ArchAndroid"
Mumford & Sons, "Sigh No More"
Robyn, "Body Talk"
Titus Andronicus, "The Monitor"
Vampire Weekend, "Contra"
I got confused what Lady was being talked about and I came across Lady Robotika
and I wondered why anyone would point that out as an example of what we want.
I think a lot of Probst's hatred for quitters also has to do with the selection process and number of super fans that get turned away. They seem to really try hard to pick a cast that will make good TV and when someone ups and decides they want to go home he thinks of all those other people who've applied (multiple times for many), got close and were disappointed to be told 'no'. He seems to be pretty involved in the casting process and I think when someone quits he starts second guessing those decisions.
I will agree that Survivor has had a resurgence these last three seasons. And as pointed out by someone else, Russell is instrumental (for me at least) in the show getting good again. I'll admit quite an obsession with the show in the beginning, but then the show got to be fairly predictable and the casts started becoming a bit boring (kind of retreads of previous seasons) and a few seasons kind of just seemed to blend into each other. I quit watching for a few years. I gave the opening epsiode of Russells season a try and got "rehooked" into Survivor. I think they started casting a little better (see: Russell) and started rethinking the show, the dynamic and the challenges differently. My only complaint after all these seasons is I think the stress on the social dynamic aspect of winning (a trend that started to come into play after a few seasons) has turned a few worthless players into millionaires. Yeah, I know it's part of the game, but come on....Russell played circles around two casts in a row. And it even surprised me that Probst never really gave him his just props. I mean everyone lies and cheats in that game and it's funny to see people angry with others for deceit when they are just as guilty themselves. It's a great social experiment and a blast to watch once again.
