Expectations not met - Claws/elec
Another way to earn respecs are by accumulating Alignment merits. At 20+ do tip missions, do the alignment every 2 days. I think 10 is the necessary number of merits. So, a respec every 20 days to strip off the rest.
As far as Claws/Elec, i havent played. I started a claws once, wolverine right heh. then I got a new power at around 20th and it attacked somebody 40 feet away. So,.... I have a rule. it has to make sense. I'm crazy, so not much sense. But the claws. they are like 2 foot out from your hands. 40 feet away. 2 foot claws. Its a claw too far for me.
GL
lol, amusingly i love focus and i've made myself known to find sense off absurd things
Looks like you just don't like Claw. Claw/Elec looks pretty good to me because kb and kd should offer even more protection for your Elec Armor.
Instead of stripping this toon, I would just keep doing Villain or Hero tip missions and use those purple merits to buy uniques that you spent so much money on. Maybe you'll like your Claw/Elec more on a larger team later?
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
First, you don't have enough accuracy in your attacks which means that your DPS will be taking a hit when trying to solo AVs. Having 22% accuracy from a single set of Kinetic Combat or Entropic Chaos is not enough even with the +ToHit of Follow Up (which definitely needs more accuracy itself, because the self buff needs to hit to activate). I know you like the Force Feedback proc, but you will need to put more accuracy in Focus as well as your other skills.
Second, you absolutely need Lightning Field. Look at Lighting Field as not only more AoE damage that is constantly ticking, but also as more single target damage. Electric Field can easily do 30+ points of damage per tic on your Claws build, and these tics activate once every two seconds. This means that Lightning Field will increase your DPS against an AV by 15 points, which is a huge contribution. If your set is lucky enough to have a damage aura, you absolutely need to take it. ELA also happens to be the only set with endurance management abilities that will allow you to run this endurance heavy toggle in single target situations (Power Sink, Energize).
Also-- look at Power Surge and the Demonic Aura accolade. By hitting Power Surge and using the Demonic Aura accolade when it crashes, you will have 4 full minutes where most AVs can't kill you. By using inspirations, you will definitely be able to solo a good amount of AVs.
I made some changes to your build. I didn't make that many drastic changes, like completely tossing out some of the sets, because you said that you spent all of your infamy building this character up. But definitely look at increasing accuracy, adding Weave and Lightning Field, and taking Power Surge.

Hi,
I'm french and i play on Vigilance (sigh at servers/community ![]() |

Looking for some thoughts on my identity crisis. I'm on the verge of stripping my claws/elec of all his IO's cause i invested all my money on him and i regret that. But doing so is fastidious as it imply doing quiet a few respec trials or having kept vet respec and then some (eventually buying respec on NC shop). Some of those costly IOs (couples LotG, Numina's/steadfast/Miracle...etc) come from an already striped down toon, my once highest char, a lvl44 SS/SD brute that i hate, cause i found out that i couldn't stand the Rage crash. Add to that Hasten crash, and, well *puke* I respecced him to grab the Energy mastery Pool and that solved some of my end probs, but even then i told myself that SD was better on a scrapper anyway (dam cap) and i already focused my hope on something else. |
That's when Elec Armor comes into play. I thought that Elec, with heavy IO investment too, could be the all around soloing beast (including AV) i needed. As anyone should know layered defense is king, so i thought that a set with no glaring hole in resists, very good debuffs protection, end drain,20% recharge passive and a self heal, could benefit the most from +def IO set and +rechg. Add to that sapping potency and i told myself "you're golden". |
- I wanted to solo anything (well, except +4/x8). Uh, uh, uh : Positron told me to get the **** out with my poor dps Aurora Borealis and Countess Crey went trough my 42% psi res + 37sec Energize like nobody's business |
Melee builds are not the best-suited for AV soloing. You can do some amazing things with certain high-end melee builds -- and at least with Scrappers and Brutes, you'll have amazing solo performance through most other encounters too -- but you're never going to find a melee build that can solo every AV.
Some AVs have too much self healing. Some AVs have high resistance to your damage type (and if you're playing a melee type with Smashing/Lethal attacks, then you're more likely to encounter resistance). Some AVs have buffs/debuffs that trivialize your defenses.
It's easy to get the wrong impression from reading the Brute/Scrapper forum, because those Archetypes are probably the best generalized soloists, which means that they attract a lot of min/max players. Those players like to make characters that are as self-sufficient as possible. Those players create insane challenges to test their builds' self-sufficiency, and a lot of those challenges are very impressive, but those challenges also tend to be rather narrow in scope.
For instance, a high-end Invulnerability Scrapper/Brute with sufficient DPS can easily solo a Rikti Pylon without temps or inspirations, but if you throw that same Scrapper/Brute up against a large spawn of Paragon PD, and all of a sudden the hail of energy-based DEF debuffs has that same character popping Inspirations like candy.
The truth is that the game's content is very well varied at the high end. Every build has weaknesses, no matter how well planned, no matter how expensive. Even Tankers can look downright squishy against the right (or the wrong) opposition.
Anyway, I'm rambling. The point is that if what you want is to solo the widest range of AVs in the game, then your best bet is probably a Sonic/Cold or Sonic/Rad Defender with soft-capped Ranged DEF, or a /Cold controller (preferably Illusion/Cold).
If you're intent on using a melee character, and specifically a Claws character, then I'd recommend switching to a Scrapper. Higher consistent damage is worth the trade-off of lower HP and a lower team-buffed resistance cap.
Now, i recently been playing a MA/Regen scrapper (lvl 27 ATM) that i'm having lot more fun than with the toon above aaaand was wondering if i could expect far better than elec in terms of soloing capabilities with the kind of IO investment seen in the build above. |
You almost have to pair Regen with a sword primary (for the extra melee defense offered by Parry/Divine Avalanche) for your survivability to compare with other secondaries.
Best of luck.
I think another problem here is defence.
S/L at 28% isn't too bad, as is melee of 20% but everything else is at 10%or below. Currently everything, especially AVs, are going to hit you waaaay more often than you'd want.
The following build is for i19 (when it arrives) and bumps up your S/L def slightly, and everything else noticeably.
I've taken the liberty of altering the build at points to give you a few other ideas that might be useful, or maybe just provide a different perspective on it.
the empty slot on rest would go to inherent Stamina, with a perf shifter end mod and another perf shifter: chance for +end. With your miracle +recovery on inherent health you should have more than enough recovery with the occasional top up from Power Sink.
Quick aside: ma/regen - I had a scrapper which I ran through to 50, but I'm currently in the process of stripping the IOs from that char. it was great at the lower levels, but even with IO sets it felt difficult at 40+, with debuffs really hitting it hard.

No doubt your suggestions will prove to be useful. I'll surely respec Naga Lord (claws/elec) tonight to great effect, i got some inf left to adjust, and certainly more juice to try harder to succeed with the toon. I can be so defeatist sometimes...
And, Obitus you're amazing, you've just put words on something i've been feeling since so long (14 years of mmorpg) : the "power-gamer's paralysis" !! i wish i could have paid you beer and have a good chat with ya ! and thx for the compliment on my english
Sincere thanks to you guys
Let the brainstorm begins now...
Just to add, if you really want to solo an AV, take along Envenomed Daggers. The main reason melee ATs haven't been as good as Defenders/Controllers/Corrupters was the lack of -regeneration. Then they added Envenomed Daggers. I have yet to meet an AV that a well built Brute can't solo with these temp powers, and I use ELA as my secondary as well.
I often prefer to use no temp powers for the challenge, however. But if you ARE willing to use temp powers, you have picked the best secondary to do it with. ELA has superior endurance management capability, so running the Vanguard Psionic Shield, Kinetic Dampener, or any other temp power armor isn't really cheating-- it's taking advantage of the strengths of ELA (unlimited endurance).

Also to consider... the AVs you listed are some of the hardest for brutes to solo.
Weight training: Because you'll never hear someone lament "If only I were weaker, I could have saved them."
I find Darkest Night well worth the investment on my Brute.
Some of those costly IOs (couples LotG, Numina's/steadfast/Miracle...etc) come from an already striped down toon, my once highest char, a lvl44 SS/SD brute that i hate, cause i found out that i couldn't stand the Rage crash. |
- Rememberd far too late that 30% S/L def is anecdotical at most with zero DDR in Elec, even though it cost so much money. |
Edit: That's the softcap for white conning minions, so it might not do much good against AVs, but it sure can't hurt.

I deleted a claws/elec at 40....I didn't have io's, but without them he was one of the squishiest brute or scrapper I ever had....claws having low mitigation and elecs heal such a long recharge. I know io's would help alot, but decided he wasn't worth the investment.
Just my experience with the set.,..opinions will no doubt vary.

At this point you should take a look at my build :
Now here's a breakdown of my thoughts :
- Painfully realized that sapping is only good in situations where no decent meleers should need it, cause we already mitigate more than any other AT's baring Tankers. That's why i don't really know where to put Lightning field as you may have noticed (got enough AoE damage with Spin/Shockwave at that recharge level - thanks Ffeedback)
- I wanted to solo anything (well, except +4/x8). Uh, uh, uh :
Positron told me to get the **** out with my poor dps
Aurora Borealis and Countess Crey went trough my 42% psi res + 37sec Energize like nobody's business
- I saw a good overall primary to complement Energize in Claws even if i knew about Lethal type lagging a bit behind, but in the end the set bores me. Well, apart from spamming Shockwave all around (wich condemn me to play solo by the way
- Rememberd far too late that 30% S/L def is anecdotical at most with zero DDR in Elec, even though it cost so much money.
- I know the taking Soul would have made me more sturdy with Darkest Night, but i wanted to do something different and don't wanted to deal with the redraw caused by dark obliteration. That could be the key though...
So... i've put him on the shelf. Even if he's not bad, its not the secret weapon i initially thought.
Now, i recently been playing a MA/Regen scrapper (lvl 27 ATM) that i'm having lot more fun than with the toon above aaaand was wondering if i could expect far better than elec in terms of soloing capabilities with the kind of IO investment seen in the build above.
I also started the old classic DM/SR scrapper (lvl 26) wich feel utterly promising but less fun than MA/Regen.
Additionnally, i plan to build a SM/Fire brute when i19 goes live for the "all out offense firework style/ don't care to die / Rise of the phoenix" department, with reduced hopes of doing anything crazy. Just pure fun.
So what do you think ? I want to have fun AND solo quiet anything
on one of the three possibilities above ? And can i REALLY expect about those three, especially the MA/Regen which the one with wich i'm having the more fun but hearing lot of negatives about Regen ?
Thanks alot for the reading and upcoming suggestions if have any !
Franck.
