Ok so im a new player (so new in fact, that i havnt actually played yet) and im downloading the game as i type this. but its SO slow through the client.

Is there a way at all to download it through my browser or another format? Because at the rate this is going, its going to take 14 hours, where as it would be done in 2-3 if i could get it to download normally.

Any tips? >_<
sorry for the newbie question

At this time no other means of digital transfer is made available by NCSoft to obtain the City of Heroes software outside of the official City of Heroes updater.

Hello, Ashy. Welcome to the City!

It may simply be that the connection that was established by the updater is slow. You may get much better speed by stopping the download, and resuming it. The updater will form a new connection, which may be much faster.

It should be able to download at the full speed of your connection. If you're not getting it -- or almost it -- just try stopping it and the running the updater again.

As above, close the updater, then restart it. May connect better 2nd time around.

Otherwise, leave it on, and wait.

Been here six years. Totally worth it!

Ok, this is bugging me. It looks like you've necro'd every thread (in multiple forums) for the last month or so that mentioned downloading for the purpose of asking what their time was. Why are you so interested? Wouldn't it be more efficient to start a new thread and ask if anyone has recent experience with download times? You'd probably get more replies that way since people like the OP of this thread tend to come onto the forums to get their question answered and then leave (as evidenced by his/her post count).

EDIT: If it's really important I'll try and remember to do a clean install on a computer to test it but I'd like to know why you're so anxious first.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and guess "for a laugh".

I'm always surprised about the comments I get on this site. I'm getting 20-30 kbps on the NA and the EU client downloads. I have an FTTH line into home my from Verizon Fios with 150 MBPS and I have Verizon's new 4G service with speeds at 33 MBPS but I can't get this downloaded. I will waste my holiday week downloading these clients. I have opened tech supports tickets with no responses since early december and so now I'm searching the forums for answers and you want to make fun of me. That is good for a laugh for me.

I'm the bad guy, right?

http://jumbofiles.com/k4h4fbf0ywu5/N...18_10.png.html - NA Client 153 hours

http://jumbofiles.com/z5cjh5dwlu5n/E...16_10.png.html - EU Client 60 hours

http://jumbofiles.com/iuiqe139mpcl/E...18_10.png.html - EU Client 71 hours

What really kills me is that I had to pay exchange fees for the EU client and it's a washout. My month sub will expire before I can download it completely.

You're really serious?

You think posting in threads over a month old attempting to ask questions about download speed of people who have made one or two posts on the forums *ever* is going to accomplish something useful?

And are you actually downloading multiple clients?
That's an... interesting... approach. It is one of the more unusual ways of slowing the download for yourself and others. It never even occurred to me to ever do that. i generally use flash drives or copying the install across the local network for installing multiple copies myself. Much faster. i also keep a copy of a recent client version on a flash drive as backup in case i need to do an install. Usually takes no more than five minutes to patch and verify after copying it over.

I download these 1 at a time....wow. I try the NA in the morning and EU in the late evening before I go to bed. I'm in the US. I updated my post above so you can see the photos.

I updated my post. look at it now.

I updated it now. Come laugh at me now...."this will be good" as Frost says.

Was pretty sure you could download one client (say, NA) copy the folder, change a few file names, and the copied folder would update it's self to the EU client. it would still require some downloading, but not the entire 3.7 gigs...

Or am I imagining this process?

I've read about it but I have been unsuccessful in making it work correctly. It always took over both folders. If I did the EU, I couldn't play NA and if I did NA I couldn't play EU. I did this on 2 laptops. One was a new one I bought the 2nd week of December just for CoH so I could do Ultramode. But it doesn't really matter now. I posted my issues and maybe one day Ncsoft will get around to it. I'll be somewhere else by then probably.

ever use Bill's Moving/Making a test server guide to try and make that EU/NA thing work?

Who bill and would you please post the weblink when you make comments like this? I sounds like a phony comment when you post with no details.

Bill's a poster on the forums. I can never remember where his original guide is but the wiki has the same info (probably copied verbatim):
