I19 Fitness Question
You have in figured right. Personally I 6 slot both health & stanima in most all of my builds. But now I will be 2 slotting each with basic IOs and bounce those 8 free slots around.
Just think of it as being about to add 3 or 4 new powers with no slots; that's a great bonus, no? Plus, you could shave a few slots off other powers and move them there, if you so desire.
I'm going to have so much fun with this.

@vanda1 and @nakoa2
that is correct. The free powers given now will generally be slotless utility powers, since we won't really have any extra slots to compensate. Most people seem to be keen on picking up stealth/grant invis/invis for 3 LotGs. Assault is a good choice if you have the endurance, and recall friend too if you team regularly in a situation where it could be useful.
It sucks, yes, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing.
I hate to be the bringer of bad news... but Willpower sucks!!! you're better off rolling a regen

Why would you free up those slots in i19, but you wouldn't before? Your toons have the same need for regen and recovery as they did before.

Most of my builds are pretty tight as it is and while I'm really excited about taking powers that I've always skipped before, it's really frustrating that I won't be able to do much with them.
It's like they built a bigger engine for the car but they're not increasing the horse power to compensate for the increased weight...ya know? ...ok, not my best analogy but STILL...you get the point...............

All of my toons are going to get to do things they couldn't before... for nothing. That's all good in my book.

I see what you mean, but I don't think of it as a better engine; I think of it as getting nicer seats, a rack for your surfboards, and some new shiny rims, little things you have wanted all along but couldn't quite afford with so many more important things out there.

No it's like they are building a bigger engine for free but you are complaining that you don't also get free leather upholstery. Your example doesn't fit because there's nothing that costs you anything at all to be compensated for.
|
So, you're saying that if I should choose to run Assault or anything else that costs endurance to run on top of my existing build...that qualifies as "nothing that costs you anything at all to be compensated for?" I have to disagree.
I don't mean to argue with you...I really am just trying to understand your logic here. I feel that PuceNonagon's positive spin on the situation is a really good point of view to go with here and I will subscribe to that line of thinking. We are getting something for free and that's cool with me.
I just still think it's kind of unfortunate that we won't be able to enhance these new choices to a more functional degree. Not that slotting more LOTG's (for example) is a bad thing!

I have a few scrappers and brutes that couldn't fit in more then foc acc due my need to mix min/max with being flashy. This will allow me to get the other two powers I wanted and well as something else.
Also, all those alts I rolled that had SS because the build was too tight to get leaping pool will be getting SJ... too. That's gonna be a blast.
Might pull a few KB protection IOs from my fire/fire scrapper and claw/DA stalker (got 3) and just have one and acerobatics.
This also opens up room to get opressive gloom on my claw/DA stalker.
In other words, unless you have some desire to just totaly change your slotting and build to add in powers that need slotting to be effective, this a total win in my book. Although, I would not complain if they happen to decide to add about 3 to 6 more slots.

I just finished digging around in the thread for clarification about the I19 changes for the Fitness pool trying to find an answer to my question...which I did not.
I'd rather ask you guys. Sorry. So, if we're getting the Fitness pool...which means that we'll be able to choose more powers now...and nearly everyone (NEARLY) selects AND slots something from the Fitness pool... ...are we not going to receive additional slots? I can't make sense of that. I understand that they will work similar to how Sprint and Brawl work (inherent/slot) but...this just doesn't sit right with me since we'll have more powers and less (or the same depending on point of view) amount of slots to work with. Can someone clarify this please? I'm sure I'm just not finding the right info or somthing... |
What doesn't make sense?
You have more powers, the same amount of slots as you've always had.
That's called a buff! Just pick powers you don't need to invest slots into heavily.
OR! You can find new ways to slot powers. Not all powers need 6 slots, even if you were slotting them 6 slots for set bonuses.
Want an extra slot, always removing the procs from attacks.
Frakenslotting, perhaps?

I have assault on over half of my characters and I have never placed more than the free slot in it. If you take assault, it will work exactly the same for you as it will for the vast majority of people who have that particular power. Same with a self rez or temp tolerance on a FA or recall ally or superjump (and really CJ for a huge number of characters never goes beyond that initial slot).

I understand what you're saying. All I'm saying is that if I have a tight build already where end management is just barely hanging on and I add something else to drain yet more end, it would be nice to have some more slots to help balance things out.
Or, it would be nice to put more than one slot in a power like Aid Self on a lvl 50 toon that has more HP so it would actually be effective without having to sacrifice slots in the existing build. From that point of view, it's not "exactly the same as the vast majority of people who have that particular power" because none of us have had access to more powers like this before. I realize that I don't HAVE to take any additional powers to drain anything.
Hey, it's still a win for us and I'm not complaining...just thinking out loud here...we get to take some new, free stuff and that's always cool. I think I19 is gonna be great and I'm looking forward to messing around with my existing builds. There's a bunch of stuff in the power pools that I've never taken simply because there was no room.
...sure we be cooler with a few additional slots though...heh...
Disclaimer - Most of what I'm talking about is under the assumption of respecing a Lvl 50 toon and not wanting to change my slotting in Stamina primarily.

Combat Jumping can be added without any real worries to your END DRAIN as well, if you haven't taken it already.

Not all powers need 6 slots, even if I'm slotting the for set bonuses? Well, it sure does if by removing that 6th slot it's going to drop me below softcap on a /SR. Sure, I might be able to make up for it on another power but that's not the point I was originally trying to make.
Everyone keeps saying "what don't you get????" but I can't help but wonder if everyone would be complaining if we did have a few extra slots to work with.
All good...either way, it's going to be a fun issue and we'll all get to try some new and fun things...right?
Well on my db/inv ill choose either maneuvers or medicine pool after i19 goes live. If i get maneuvers i can remove some of some def bonus mule powers to use for other things. Or if I get aid self and aid other I can focus on recharge bonuses rather then regen which should help out slot wise If you choose new powers strategically you save slots or as others have said get a few extra powers that need no further slots (like a travel power :P)
Let me present this from an ENTIRELY different vantage point. This buff isn't for your IO'd level 50. This buff is for the casual player. This buff is for the altaholic. This buff is for the legions of characters in the 1-19 range. It's a big quality of life improvement for them. For them, it's a MAJOR buff.
For an IO'd out level 50? Not so much. You CAN make some clever use of it, but that's a side effect at best, because it wasn't intended for you. IO'd level 50s are already crazy powerful, and didn't need buffing, so we don't get slots. Great quality of life improvement for the lowbies, only a small buff for the IO'd 50s, and comes with new build challenges. Works for me.

I think everyone is looking at this from a micro prospective of "gee.. what will my toon do with this change." That's the correct thing t do of course since you're the player. But from the game prospective... from the macro prospective.... One sees that nearly every toon took 3 powers from fitness and they took them before level 20. If they didn't they soon wished they had. It wasn't required but it was certainly important enough that people would quit the game, or delete toons if they hadn't. It was key to enjoying the game for a very high % of players. The dev's saw this and finally said, "hrmm... how can we fix that problem." This is the solution they came up with.
Then we ask... Does the solution has no negative impact on any toons? Nope. Does it excessivly overpower anyone? Nope. OK... Good fix.
Do I wish I had more slots? Well, yeah.... but I wished I had more slots before this fix. Will my I19 builds be better then my I18 build? oh yeah.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.
A big help on leveling... get some of the builds to mature earlier
