A new approach to an exsisting problem?

I have taken the time to sit here in front of the computer screen and read through the numerous posts about new base content. I agree that we have been ignored and forgotten. I agree we need some new life in the base edit realm. But the numerous posts have failed to get even a simple response from the devs. I mean wouldn’t we be happy with just that one simple thing? A response from a dev saying, “Hey we hear you guys and we have been talking it over, but the …blah….blah ….blah… is why we cant do it right now” With just one simple response from a dev, we would recognize that our voice has been heard. That is one key thing I have noted from the posts, peeps are disappointed that they get no acknowledgement and acknowledgement is what? It lets us know that we have been heard and that is in its self something that we have yet to see. Now we aren’t asking for an entire issue be devoted to base edit. All we ask for is a couple of new items every now and then. If cost is the main factor, then come up with Base Decorations Booster Pack #1. I don’t think that there is a player out there that would say, “Hell no I am not paying money for some new base decorations”. So if numerous posts on the forums aren’t working, and peeps have talked at the conventions to WW and posi and got nowhere with it; where do we turn to next?
I say we should all send in a petition under the suggestions and comments and label it “BASE EDIT SUGGESTIONS”. In the content of the petition, we need to state the following: We have done as you have asked; we have made numerous attempts on the forums to simply get a response from the devs for our pleas for new base content. These attempts have all failed to generate a response from the devs. We have included a consolidated list of things we would like to see in the future via this link to help direct the devs to one area in the forums in particular. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=220395 . If the cost is a concern that won’t allow you to pursue the issue any further, can’t you make a Base Decorations Booster Pack #1 and help compensate the cost through the players? Please help us in generating a response from the devs. A simple post on that forum link is a great first step to all of us, thank you.
I think the main reason we have failed up to this point is that we have simply relied heavily on the forums and sure some have talked to the devs at the conventions (But really is that dev who has talked to thousands of peeps going to remember everything), but we haven’t sent up a flag to voice our concerns. Don’t you think that if support received 100 petitions or more from today through this weekend, all labeled BASE EDIT SUGGESTIONS, and they were all from different players that it wouldn’t send a big flag up? One it suggests to me that we are all organized and we are all trying to see one thing, a response from a Dev. I know we have a dedicated dev that is devoted to base edit but pulled continuously to other areas to work and has no choice but to neglect us. Well wouldn’t that tell the devs that hey maybe we should put the devoted dev back to their original task? Or maybe even respond to us. So I ask you all to rally to the cause and try this new suggestion. What can it hurt and it will only take a minute of your time, which might be all we need to get the one true thing we want to see, our voices heard through the response of a dev.

I may not agree with you that we all are just looking for a rsponse from a dev, but i have to agree that it is a new approach to possibly generating a response. Ill support the cause and send in a petition.

I agree that the devs have forgotten or have ignored BASE EDIT. Petitions are pointless because the support team responding to the petition will tell you to 'Post your comments or concerns on forums'. They will also tell you that the devs read the forums daily. Really!? Thats a 'crock'! It becomes a vicious circle and nothing ever comes of it. New base items for base edit would help put life back into the game. Some of my COH friends are addicted to base edit and have some very cool and unique bases. The devs should make an effort to tour some of these unique bases and see first hand what players are doing. This would give them ideas for additional content. I would pay for a 'Booster Pack' for base items if it ever came out. Good ideas COHjunkie! Keep up the good fight!

Ok I got some messages that the post was hard to read because the hyper link to impish kat's post came out like purple for some reason so here it is again, I hope it posts better this time, sorry about that.

Ok I have gotten the same generated email, post on forums the devs read them everyday, but I think that if everyone banded together and sent the same subject heading Base Edit Suggestions, we might get a different response. It might not work, but we stand to lose nothing and possibly gain everything from a little effort. All I am saying is we have tried other tactics in the past and they havent produced any results; so lets try a new tactic and if it doesn't work, atleast we can say we tried again, but more as a whole this time. What does everyone think? I see atleast 51 views and only 2 replies. That could have been 51 petitions to support with the same subject line and might have sent up a flag to them so that they elevate it to their superiors.

I honestly don't think this is the way to go about it.

There is no doubt in my mind that the devs are aware of the Big Consolidated List, as it has been in existence for at least 3 years (I was just the most recent one to update it).

Support is not going to be able to help us here.

It will just muddy the waters, I'm afraid.

Why do you think it will muddy the waters? Have you gotten a reply from the devs on your post? Why must we be afraid to ask (Not Demand) for a simple answer? We pay money every month for a service, the devs supply that service. As a customer, I think we have the right to get an answer about the service we are paying for. We are not demanding really anything here, just simply asking for an answer. I see no harm in that.

I am simply throwing a suggestion out there, trying a new approach to get an answer. If this is not the way to go about it, what do you then suggest we do? The list has been on the forums for three years you say. We haven't seen an answer in three years. I don't think that way is working. If anyone else has a better suggestion, post it.....lets work together on this to get an answer.

It is hard to read your posts due to:
  • Too much use of the formatting options, including but not limited to: Type use, Type size, Bold/Italics/Etc.
  • An astounding wall of text.
Use paragraphs. Use the standard type style (don't change to Arial). Don't change the size. Use bold and italics sparingly. Your posts show a casual disregard to the reader.

If you don't care to make your posts easy to read, why should anyone bother to read them? Also Times New Roman is great on paper, not so much on screen.

Thanks for the constructive criticism I will keep that in mind in the future. Again I apologize that the post came out that way. I took something I typed on a word document and copy pasted it here. It didn't look that bad until it posted.

The way it was put to me, things are being discussed internally not externally.

There are tons of reasons for the silence.

Lets keep our cool and bide our time.

Ok I haven't heard that, thats new to me. Was their a timeline? If that is the case I can agree to waiting a little longer for an answer.

Thing is, this is a tiny <yet awesome> dev team. Tiny.

A-lot of the desires would require huge amounts of resources that Paragon simply doesn't have.

Enter low hanging fruit. Our best bet to get anything immediate done to bases.

That is what our diet should consist of until things get healthier for more complicated foods.

Start small, work up to big, given time.

no timeline given.

Its best to just hang out until they come to us with what they can offer.

I can't stress "keeping cool" enough.

Ranting is just going to gum up the works.

Good point, I wasn't trying to rant, just suggestion to a new approach. Things would of been easier if the devs would have posted a thread telling us that they are looking at it internally and once the hash out the details they will get back to us. That is an answer.

I am not slamming the devs at all, I know they are a small group and they do work hard for us; just would have made more sense if they would have gave a simple vague answer up front. I think that would have been all that was needed to show that they are listening to us. The total silence doesn't do that.

So yeah keeping quiet at the moment is the better approach. Thanks for the info.

Its cool.

for now they aren't really allowed to say anything.

It's policy, nothing more.

That's why we haven't gotten any posts of "We hear you guys/gals" ...and they DO hear us.

Really all we can do at this point is get our community collected and on the same page whilst we wait for things to unfold.

*Breaths a sigh of relief.*

I have been giving tours.

well I think Impish Kat did an excellent job updating the consolidated list, hopefully we will hear something soon.

Are you not listening? Petitions go to the GM's, NOT the Devs. These are two completely separate groups that work for different companies at different locations.

Sending petitions as you suggest will accomplish nothing except to waste the GM's time that they could be using to help players with in-game problems.

I agree with the Kat here. This is pretty much the wrong way to go about it. If its like anything else in the MMO universe, Paragon knows that we players will mercilessly quote, re-quote, and hold any redname accountable for any and all statements.

Thus, if its something they WANT to do, we're not going to hear about it because if it doesn't pan out, we'll all go "BUT YOU PROMISED US X" If its something they plan on doing at a later indetermined date, we won't hear about it because we'll never stop going "WHEN IS X"

However, if its something that effort is being committed to now, with a release schedule, we'll start hearing about it at that point.

Petitions and assorted other "why do you hate us?" themed text doesn't accomplish much other than making those involved with them even more upset when nothing changes because everything that was going to get done was already getting done.

The list is good. As long as the list is taken care of, and is there, we have our postion clearly stated. Past that, we have forums to discuss and refine things we might want to see added to the list. Nothing more needs to be done. Just be patient and enjoy what we get when we get it!

Well this was a suggestion to see what peeps thought of the idea. You have excellent points shade and blade. If you noticed the chat w/ MrHassenpheffer and myself you can see that i realized its worth waiting. Thanks for your comments. Im just frustrated with no reply from the devs. Base edit is one of the things in this game that i truely enjoy.

Thanks again. You can see why I get worked up with base edit. I enjoy it a lot and take great pride in the work on my base. It was a pleasure to give you the tour. Yours is one of the most unique bases I have ever seen and would be a Pvp nightmare for the opposing force lol.

Is anyone else going to the California Bay Area Meet and Greet this weekend? I plan to be there but, unlike past years, I'm not proactively asking about sg/base stuff this time because:

(a) I thought Electric-Knight already did an excellent summary of where we stand in another thread with his conversation with War Witch.

(b) The whole "Committee" thing is such an unknown at this point. I really want to stay out of any conversation on that (or any accusation that I tried to "poison the well" with our "best" chance of results from the devs).

If I hear anything said in public on SG's or bases I will pass it along but my expectations are very low (breakout discussions are on powersets and costumes so I think you can see where they want the focus).

If you are going and want to meet the grumpy old man who's been a failure these past couple of years swaying getting anything new done for bases... look for a ballcap and Arachnos pin and come say hi.
