NEW Victory Wiki

I guess I need to post stuff when I have time since I was the one who brought all this up!

I sort of started it as a joke but it has begun to rekindle my Wiki-love and I think it will turn into a fun project.

Please add the following:

"Under no circumstances is anyone to follow Shamster. Stay with the team, and do not follow Shamster. Never, ever.......ever.....break from the team to go running off to "save Shamster". "

"Do what voodoo says"

"Don't blame voodoo for your silly mistakes"

"Voodoo Girl is to be known as "Voog", "Fake voodoo", or "lesser Voodoo" at any given time"

I hope my participation is well received. Thank you and good day.

And we need this why exactly? Personalized wikis really don't serve any purpose except to give insecure folks a reason to think they are important. We've got this section of the CoH boards. That should be enough for any server... and yes, I'm looking at YOU Virtue :/

Possessive pronouns do not use apostrophes. "Its" means "that which belongs to it" while "it's" means "it is."

We don't need a wiki - it's for fun.

Do we need this game? No. It's for fun.

Each server has it's own unique community make-up - and, well - this is sort of like scrapbooking.

I get what you're saying, Esch, but I don't completely agree.

When I was an avid comic collector, one of my favorite things were the Character guide issues that were printed in alphabetical order and just gave readers a nice summary of who the character was and his/her accomplishments/failures and such. As characters crossed over into titles you collected, you could be familiar with them without having to collect their respective books.

A lot of folks on Victory have rather interesting characters. Many have rather elaborate backgrounds. The in game ID screen don't provide enough room. While I can certainly keep most my character straight in my head, I can't always which planet a specific bug may have come from. Sometimes, it would be nice to be able to access a convenient place to read up on said bug's princess, whose name I may not remember.

SI Radio has many DJs and listeners whom hold City of Heroes close to their hearts. We will be supporting many efforts to keep CoH ALIVE!!

Well, when you put it that way... I suppose it would be a neat idea, but it just seems rather presumptuous is all. And yes Ryxx, I"m sure I spelled that word wrong, I don't care really . I realize the game is for fun and that we don't "NEED" it... I just would hate to see us degenerate into the type of group that feels it needs to stroke its ego with personalized pages describing every little detail. Can you imagine what a ****** I'd sound like if some newbie came up to me and asked about my character and my response was "Victory has a wiki, I have an entry there, go read it?"

Now, I can see two possible responses - The newbie might go "COOL! I'll go check it out." More likely he'd say something like "A bit full of yourself aren't you?" Probably not in such polite language either. Not to mention the wiki-wars that could very likely result if someone read something on their page they didn't like.

However - all that said - I suppose I shouldn't rain on other people's parade and assume that the worst will happen. No one is going to put a gun to my head and force me to participate after all. As a project for fun? Go for it. Just be aware that the internet is an unkind and malicious place - not at all like our cozy little server forum here.

Alternatively, "Welcome to the Victory Server, $newbie. Are you new to the game/new to our server? We have a wiki if you'd like to acclimate yourself to our...ways (sinister laughter.)"

I see it as a community building tool and less of an ego stroking exercise. Naturally, some people will do just that - people already do that on (the real) Wikipedia - stroke their egos.

Let them do it.

I think we do enough community events and have our own unique little "society" here that, as I said previously, I think of this more as scrapbooking.

I've been playing for 5 some odd years and there's a reason I haven't left Victory. It's the people. Or those things that call themselves people. Whatever they are, I consider being with them "home."

Wiki's are not scary - they are an amusing time vampire.

Meh. I would say that the people are over-rated but there's a reason soylent green was a favorite food...

As far as people using a wiki page for self-aggrandizement, eh, it's been my observation that those who are desperate for attention will find a way to express that in one form or another. Whether it is here on the forum, in game, or in the global channels. At least on a wiki page I don't have to do anything to ignore it.

And for those that want to have a wiki page just for the fun of it, who am I to pee on their parade? Unless they want that, then we'll have to negotiate that business in a more private setting.

Why you gotta be dissin' me out of the blue like that?

Semi-related, anyone know if Polaris nuked his site? Can't remember what all was on there, but I tried to get people to use it in the same fashion. And it didn't get used, just like the forums (here anyway) are hardly ever really used anymore as well.

Time, effort, comfort-factor, niche/closed groups, etc.

Though, one way to get people to use something like this.....start posting wrong information. People love correcting others. You don't have to go far looking for proof of that

I suspect he nuked it when he started working with the titan network. IIRC his site had his planner, a forum, and access into irc.

Oh. Almost forgot. Wasn't there an events calendar as well?

Calendar was the best (and only) use of his site

This wiki should be about the history of Victory.

I said it. Now make it so.

...in the beginning there was nothing...

...and then Satanic Hamster said, "Let there be light!"

...still it was dark as Hell but at least you could see it...

...and from that abyss emerged...

...nothing...

That's a good start.

Make it about badges and old school pvp. I will frequent it if there is badges and old school pvp

Awww, you listened to me. The stronger, smarter, bestest part of the small space inside my head I let you roam. <3

Well, if that's how you are going to start it, it needs more Desu! Desu! and Meow! Meow! Meow!. Not to mention at least one, "It's an ambush!"

You will also need to put in the part about a rez being needed after the last phrase.

Exactly. Any Victory wiki site worth its salt will need a page describing what a "Hambush" is.
