So the obvious solution here is for those of us in this thread should form a VG (or, if you've got a VG already, a coalition - I just recently decided to go ahead and make my own solo VG, but that's easily discarded if there's a more interesting option in the offing...)
My global is the same as my display name on the forum; feel free to say hi sometime. Some of my other characters have different motivations, but Vardra is always looking for something interesting to kill...

Running my own SG/VG for my rediculous number of alts, so joining another is not something I would want to do, but forming a coalition could be an option. Or at the very least just adding globals and teaming up. RP does not have to be restricted to JUST within an SG or VG.

For those of you interested, I've been in possession of the VG Dawn of Darkness since... since about 4 years ago actually, if not longer. I would gladly use it as my own VG for RP fun times. It's a magic-themed group with room for all comers; we don't have any real need to deny membership to any particular theme.
Edit: I should really rephrase this and say "I don't have any real need to deny membership to any particular theme" since I'm the only active person in the VG, and have been for 2 years now.

It's funny because I just came back after like 5 years off and I try to RP with people while i mission and the like and almost without fail, if I accidentally fall into some fun RP, the people want to head back to their base and talk while we all do the /teabag emote.
I really enjoy the universe, the feel of the game, it's been so refreshing coming back after so long away and really discovering I enjoy the game as a hobby but I'd love to kick *** and RP with the best of them, it just seems that besides the occasional random team I join up with, half the people I run into are in single person SGs and the other half have zero open mindedness about the type characters in their SGs or are very clichey.
Live a little guys, it's a game, we all want to have fun. I feel like the RP community could be 50% better if all us little guys could get in with the cliches.

But I'm not looking for paramilitary; the sets I can tie to paramilitary characters (AR, which is anemic for me; Mercs, which are equally anemic; Dual Pistols, which I've already taken to 50; Traps, which I only enjoy on MM; and Devices, which I have on a 41 AR/Dev) just don't feel good as far as gameplay is concerned. Besides, I've already established my 'main' RP characters. One of them is tied to Drake closer than he knows, and the rest just don't fall in with the military gig.

Introduction: You've seen my Sand tank; I know you have. Real good and righteous sort of guy, protects everyone around him. It's his nature, see, he was one of the Pharaoh's bodyguards, chosen for his very protective instincts and other virtues. So, how's he still alive? Simple. He's protected and preserved by the sands of Egypt. How the hell did that happen? Little more complicated. Long story short: Pharaoh made a bargain with Set, Egyptian god of sand and "some other stuff" to bless his best bodyguard with that protection, so that he would be around to protect the Pharaoh's lineage.
So what's any of this got to do with the character I intend for your group? Let's talk about Set for a minute. You remember Set? Well, "some other stuff" includes chaos. Now, to Set, letting the Pharaoh have an immortal guardian didn't sound very chaotic. Part of the bargain was that Set would create an equal and opposite force that would pose no threat "so long as the Pharaoh and his children sat upon the throne." Pharaoh agreed, content that with an immortal bodyguard no harm could ever come to his family, and this force would never come into being.
Pharaoh soon learned that there are things a man cannot protect against.
The equal and opposite force to my tank is the character I think would be a right fit for your "new" group.

I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread. I'm in pretty much the same boat but I mostly play hero side. I've tried the whole "conversation insertion in the D" thing and found 2 main problems with that
a) The particular character I'm on really isn't into inserting herself into conversation
or
b) The group is NOT into RPing outside of their lil clique
or
c) The vast amount of conversations are about something so utterly ridiculous, you spend your time going WTF!?!?!
I've managed to find a couple good homes for 2 of my characters but sadly, the SGs are quiet unless it's SG night. (caveat, I've actually taken a couple weeks off from the game and am just coming back so this MIGHT have changed).
I'm dying for some consistent mature RP. I can't say that I RP well while teaming, unless the team is steamrolling stuff and I don't have to worry about saving someone's a**
I and my characters have been pretty burned by people I've known for years and had storylines with just up and disappearing or turning into jackasses. As is stands, I've had to remake like 3 characters and am sitting on 1 who's utterly destroyed and I dunno what to do with her.
I'm willing to entertain concepts or start a new one with those of you out there who love RP as much as I do.
With all due respect to the Golden Age Heroes, I found their "requirements" to be a tad too stringent and elitest for my tastes. I desire a good group, an OPEN group, because you don't know if a person's good at RP till you RP WITH THEM.
I don't godmod (I hate those too). I like to think I'm a solid RPer. Otherwise, I wouldnt have been at this for as long as I have lol.
Anyway, my global is @Tanklet. I have a variety of characters. I'm always interested in getthing them involved in plots. It helps develop their own content. FFRP, ya never know what happens.

VirtueVerse is also a terrible resource at this point because the recruiting section is full of dead groups that have long since left the game.
It is really tough at this point to get reinserted into the RP scene in this game because everyone sticks to their friends or group they are already playing in and it is hard to even find a group that may be recruiting.
