An attempt to re-insert myself into RP.
Oh no, I don't mean you'll be shunned. I'm just saying, set yourself apart from the rest by showing you've got more moxy! Not a "you're lower so make better" thing, just a "Here's the rest but I'm the best!" confidence thing.
|
I get your drift, though. I'll be sure to bring my RP-mojo to the table when I'm out and about. I'm still getting used to the game, in general, so I haven't been RPing with the NPC's as much as I usually do. I'm too busy staring at the map going, "You want me to go where?" Seriously, it took me, like, an hour to figure out how to get to the Hollows last night. *lol*
The way you avoid being lumped in with the rest of Virtue's crap-content catgirls is by proving yourself. Don't be a catgirl, be a girl who has cat bits. If that makes sense.

It is unfortunate that many can ruin the novelty for a whole lot more, you can't even really be a werewolf in any game or site anymore without someone pointing a finger and calling you a "furry".
As for WoD folks, only people I see complaining about WoD characters are elitists. Really for me, I don't care. A vampire is a vampire, as long as you don't sparkle, that's all I ask. Please do not sparkle!
Eh unfortunately that wont stop judgmental people from being... well, judgmental. Some folks you just can't change their mind even if your toon's existence depended on it, that's just who how they are.

Me: *attacks this person RP-style* WoD Person: ((Excuse me, as per WoD rules you can't do such a thing without first possessing this thing/doing something frivolous/that won't work at all unless you follow the RULES)) Me: ((... @#$% this, I'm going to find another person to swing at.)) |

I have complaints about WoD RPers for the following reason.
|
I'd say the only thing about WoD players that annoys me is when they try to take something iconic and change it. Such as individuals who play a Malkavian but they're not insane in the least... which kind of goes against what I Malkavian was. Atleast, for a non-WoD player that was my understanding. But again, you can find people in CoX doing the same to the game's own lore; changing it rather than filling in the blanks that could be done and settles easier. That is why to me it sounds like complaints come from elitists because you (not you but whoever in question) don't like the source material, suddenly said person is not allowed to RP even if it's conducted in a respectable manner. Which to me is perfectly fine, what they do in their little circles is completely up to them and quite frankly none of my business; judging that doesn't make me the better man. But like I've said, as long as they don't subject non-WoD characters to their philosophies and are instead respectful to other individuals; more power to them.
So again, people who kind of marry sue their story line, I simply disassociate myself with them to allow them to go on their marry.
It happens to the best of us. You're a long time RPer, you're involved with several VG/SG-related plots, and then a bunch of drama runs in and takes a big stinky **** all over you and your RP buddies and everything falls apart like a game of Jenga in a windstorm. You spend more time just gaming, trying to get away from all of the crap and hope it blows over.
Then you find out that everyone split off and made their own VGs and you never hear from them again. This is what happened to me. I used to be really heavy into a lot of RP scenes, and I still try to keep in touch with the people I hung around with (Moone, Col. Drake, the old members of The Order of the Horde) but a few of those players have gone the way of either CO or just plain vanished. Now I have a few 50's and countless 20-45's who are sitting, with full backstories, just waiting to find a new niche. ... After all the nonsense that happened with the VG's and SG's I was in, I was completely alone in my wish to RP with the exception of (literally) two global friends. My definition of RP is different. I actually like to play the game as well as explore my characters. I don't like sitting around for hours in Pocket D or a Base just talking or shooting IC small-talk around unless it's followed a good mission romp or a nice, XP-earning team. I noticed, unfortunately, that I am in the minority when it comes to this (or at least I feel like I am). I never see RP mission teams more than once a week. It's always sit around and talk, never get up and do... |
And I've actually been roaming around in D (for lack of anywhere else) with my main, Agonus, looking for a new RPVG to join. And I'd love to say I've found people to just RP with for longer than a few minutes. But I haven't. I've been completely blown off multiple times now, regardless of how peacefully and friendly-like I approach anyone.
I used think the whole "the Virtue RP community is too clique-ish" thing was exaggerated, but well, zounds. That's a pretty spot on description, in my humble opinion.
For what it's worth, I do intend to keep looking for a new RP crowd for Aggie, or my new soon-to-be-fallen-hero pet project Nitrion.
Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.
good luck D.B.B.
I've gone through almost the exact same thing as you, though I play villains 90% of the time.

Back on topic as much as possible, I put this thing up to hopefully give myself a little more exposition to the current RP community of Virtue. As I mentioned earlier I'd be glad to lay out some of my major characters and hopefully find a place for them to be.
Anyone want to help?

"Dark Armor is a complete waste as a tanking set."
Sure, Nal. I am looking to expand myself back into greater amounts of roleplaying before I move on.(I quit the game in 2011, sometime in that year).
http://virtueverse.net/wiki/Shadeknight_II -- My character. Hes basically a amalgram between Batman and Doctor Strange, with other hints / inspirations from Gambit and Superman.
But yeah, I'd love to help.
Well, here's a quick bump with a list of my most played/highest level/most interesting characters. Screenshots only available for characters I've posted before. Here goes.
Nalrok Ath'Zim, Level 50 Dark Melee/Dark Armor/Soul Mastery Brute, Magic Origin
(Also comes in Mastermind Flavor as a level 38 Demon/Dark)
Quick Info: Stereotypically large and demonic, Nalrok Ath'Zim is a bastion of darkness and a well of patience. When not entertaining himself with the death and misfortune of others, he finds himself socializing and meeting with people/creatures he finds interesting. While his potential for malice is higher than Recluse's potential for having a bad temper, he's always able to keep his calm and usually performs acts of destruction and vengeance with a quiet, serene expression. His personality is the antithesis of his appearance until you cross him, and know the true meaning of his nickname Plague of the Six Winds.
RP Preferences: Social settings, intense combat, dark themes, gory situations. Would be most at home in a magic-oriented VG, or perhaps even a secret/underground society.
-----
Der Wahnsinn, Level 50 Super Strength/Electric Melee/Soul Mastery Brute, Natural Origin
Quick Info: Der Wahnsinn calls himself "The Intangible of Insanity." He always goes on about how this "job" entails he do his best to keep the world's balance of sane and insane to his liking. That said, occasionally he will do something so outlandishly unexpected that it can only be considered insane. His favorite hobby is smashing large structures to pieces during a lightning storm (that he created, no less).
RP Preference: Somewhere he can exercise his strength, craziness and love for random humor.
(More coming, lunch break right now.)

Adding...
Andret and Korolv
Respectively: Level 45 Broadsword/Regeneration Scrapper, Tech Origin; Level 43 Shield Defense/Battle Axe Tanker, Tech Origin
Korolv:
Quick Info: Andret and Korolv are two extradimensional humanoids discovered by Portal Corps during routine portal explorations. The scientists who found them dubbed their people the "tech spartans" as their species is obsessed with technology and close-range combat. The dominant gender is female, with the males being smaller and less physically imposing. Most of their people are focused on advanced regenerative devices such as armor that repairs incoming wounds. Andret has one of the first models of his people's armor, and is incredibly skilled with it and his weapon, and can outheal nearly every assault made on him. Korolv is a mutant of his species; he is a large and vary well-built male who did away with his regenerative equipment in favor of raw defense. In his armor he weighs just under one ton.
RP Preferences: Combat-oriented SGs. I can rogue/villainify Korolv. Imagine them like spartans with a deep knowledge of the modern world. They love battle, they love hanging out, and they love friendly spars and feasts (of course). They could really fit in anywhere, save for Andret who doesn't have a malicious thought in his head.
-----
Catastrophus, Level 35 Earth Control/Earth Assault Dominator, Magic Origin
Quick Info: Catastrophus' real name is Lancaster Hawthorne Christopherson. While the blood of Oranbegan ancestors beats in his veins, he only grasps the power of one element: a rare mineral called Red Onyx. Not only can it be formed into weapons and spikes, it's also rich in nutrients. What's a guy to do? Open a flower shop. That's right, Lancaster owns two shops. One in St. Martial and one in Cap Au, both called Christopherson Arrangements. Anyone who's tried to rob this store has gone missing.
RP Preferences: A laid-back RPVG that doesn't mind an eccentric, gruff florist.

I'm resurrecting this thread. I'm still in dire need of an active, non-clique non-strict non-godmode non-broody-teen-vigilante RPVG for my main, and similar RPSG's/VG's for my other toons. Read the OP and help a guy out?

I am in the same place you described EXACTLY and it has been over a year since the last group I was part of imploded on itself.
Frankly though I have pretty much given up on finding RP on the unofficial RP server, no one cares to even initiate conversation outside of their groups of friends anymore so I just stick to playing OOC and working on my incarnates...
No relation to Arachnos!
Part Pack: Now the majority of players know how we, PvPers, have felt for years now. Don't want to be so "civil" now that you have been completly ignored, do you?
I'm always game to start conversation when I'm just hanging around, but I don't belong to any organized active SG, sorry. Mostly I just have a global list of friends and a server list of interesting characters I've run across.
I can't claim to have such a group for you, but I too enjoy a good RP team. For about a Week I've been playing with a similar group of Characters as my Soldier of Arachnos. You can Global me @SilverChaos or just Friend Agent Noble if you want a contact.
Not really what you were looking for I guess, but its a start, right?

I'm in kind of the same boat. Of course, I haven't touched the game since Villains was in Beta, so I'd be amazed if I found anyone at all who recognized me.
I feel you, though. I love to RP. It's one of my favorite things to do in these types of games. But I like to *do* stuff, too. I mean, there's a time and a place for long, drawn out conversation that bare your soul to the world, but half the time that's going on, I'm wishing that we were having the same conversation while bashing in something's face.
Anywho, I'm waaaay rusty (as in, just started again 4 days ago), so I've mostly been just creating, deleting, and experimenting with characters. My highest is only 24 or so.
There seems to be a couple of fairly like minded people here, though. Maybe we should just start something? Always seems like it's more effective than hunting for something that may or may not exist.
Anywho, message me whenever, if you want. I'm on a myriad of characters with fun little backstories at the moment (most of them just in my head >.<), but I'm more than willing to do something if you don't mind my rustiness.
@Jugs
Remember to look through the Superhero/villain group directories. Might be a particular SG you're looking for within that list.
I haven't RPed in years. None of my current CoX characters have ever been used for RP, with the exception of my first villain Rose Prince whose story was rebooted. Honestly, I just don't even know how to start anymore. My IRL friend and I run a two-man VG for all our characters so joining another one isn't an option. Nobody RPs in the field, and everyone in the D is an angsty brooding teenager whereas most of my characters are 30-something and too old for high school crap. So my characters have storyline that just sort of got written between my friend and I behind the scenes, with no acctual RP happening at all.
I'd love for my Brute, Brimshock, to get into some RP. He's a very Sandman/Rhino-inspired super-powered thug who just needs someone he can call "Boss" and follow around like the collossal idiot he is. Or then there's Dr. December, who I've always wanted to fill the "good-natured genius" role in a sort of Avengers-styled, non-themed group, and probably the only character I'd considder getting romantically involved with anyone given the Rogue-style "touch me and you might freeze to death" drama potential.
The off-beat space pirate...Capt. Stormrider (50+3 Elec/Storm Science Corruptor)
The mysterious Djinn...Emerald Dervish (50+1 DB/DA Magic Stalker)
The psychotic inventor...Dollmaster (50 Bot/FF Tech Mastermind)
Virtue Forever.
I roleplay with everyone equally. If I enjoy the RP, then I'll add them to friends and seek them out for more RP. If I don't enjoy it, well, I'll call it a wash and probably not actively seek them out in the future. I won't flat-out avoid them or ignore them should I come across them, they just wouldn't be first on my list to call when I'm in the mood for some RP.
I try to keep in consideration that online RPing is still relatively new to a lot of people. For others, the entire concept of "roleplay" is a foreign idea. So there are a lot of new people out there that just need a guiding hand. However, if you're just going to glove-slap them from the start, well, that leaves a lasting impression -- although, not one you'd be likely to be proud of. It's situations like these where people are snubbed for what are ultimately petty reasons that lead to a server's "bad reputation".
