Are Brutes Broke now ?
Fury mechanics were altered in issue 18 to lower peak damage output for Brutes.
Issue 18 patch notes
# Decreased Brute Damage Cap from 850% to 775%. # Modified the Brute Fury Formula so that there is a more gradual degradation of Fury Build Up while attacking/being attacked instead of a sharp fall off at 80%. The fall off begins at 30%. # Reduced Fury Decay Rate from 2 points per second to 0.75 points per second. # The overall result of these two changes to Fury Generation is that it will be easier to maintain low levels of Fury, while gaining very high levels of Fury will be more difficult. |
Yup, not broke. WAI. Honestly I would like to see maybe the top 10-15% chopped off the bar. So instead of a full bar = to 100% fury it would be = to 85% fury. That way it would provide the illusion that the bar is near full since more than 85% is pretty much damn near impossible now.
I agree- the devs need to do something about that bar. It just serves as a constant reminder that we can't do what we used to do. If we are doing 100% of what we are allowed to do with the new fury cap, it should show as such on the bar. True enough, by not allowing the bar to seem full, it does have an adverse affect on bruting. Sure, it is nitpicky, but the devil is in the details.
Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.
"You're right...I forgot...being constantly at or the near the damage cap is a big turn off. Definitely not worth it."

The only problem I see with these suggestions, is that you can actually get to a 100% full fury bar with the Frenzy alignment power.
Of course the rest of the time, there is that big nagging space that you simply can't fill no matter what you do.
This was actually discussed quite a bit during I18 beta. Sadly, there wasn't a ton of consensus among the posting players, and I don't think the devs ever chimed in on the topic of the bar.

Changes to the Fury cap to reflect the new artificial limitation will mess up the Frenzy power's use in giving you 100% Fury. Leaving it as is just eats at those of us who used to run at 90% full-time.

I don't see what the problem is for people. It's just a gauge. The speedometer in my car goes to 180 mph, but that doesn't bother me when I'm cruising down the I-5 at 90 mph.
Similarly, when I'm one-shotting bad guys with my fury bar way over to the right I'm not obsessing that its not quite _all the way over_.
Enough is as good as a feast.
We know that post I18's adjustment, that we're hitting the expected threshold. And I for one think the Fury changes were for the better over all.
I too am a little miffed over the Fury changes. But keep in mind, while the Devs were bending brutes over the design table they were kind enough to give a reacharound. If you do villain tips/villain alignment mission, you get a power that pops you to 100% Fury. Not sure how long it stays there (Mine activates today - 6 day wait after morality mish) But if it stays for even 30 sec at 100% that ain't too bad, specially since you can pop it stone cold and be all the brute you can be, 0-100 in zip. If it pops to 100 then drops to 80 in 10 seconds, then ya, they can crap in their hats.
I was lead brute on an LRSF last night. Not even with 5 level 53 AVs pounding on my skull did I see my fury go above 75%.
That's the new cap, like it or not. As folks have mentioned, because the villain alignment power lets you tap 100% (I haven't used mine yet, so I've no clue how long it lasts) the bar won't be changing.
In the end, brutes still have better HP, better dam-res caps and still dish out near scrapper level damage. Quit your whinin.
Be well, people of CoH.

I still don't see why cutting it off lower would be a big deal. The fury bar's an indicator, filling it up wouldn't put anyone at the hard cap for what Fury can supply. Having the bar only go to 85% would make Frenzy cooler, if anything. It would be a "But this goes to 11!" power, instead of a, "This is the only way in the game to maximize your inherent" power.
Other than that, I'm really happy with the brute changes from I18. And the bar? Meh. I can live with it.

I learned the ways of iBITE. That is to say, I see no fury bar.
Where to now?

True, Brutes still got it. Starting at 44 I am soloing a Warehouse AE with +1/x6 for a level every hour. Now at 46. Looking forward to 50, and really nice to be able to farm my own way there, and yeah, not hitting full Fury. But tonight I will try my Frenzy power, see what is what, and if it is worth it. I will only have Frenzy for about 6 weeks before I head Blueside, as my new Brute is my main badger. Soon as I finish Redside content I am outta there. (well, as soon as that and I get 20 Villain merits - why not make a purple on the deal?)
And speaking of Brutes NOT being broken. I chose this guy about 2 weeks ago, and solo'd all Praetoria content. I plan to badge all of Ouro as well. Be a useful member on every Task/Strike Force, including Master TFs. What other class can do all of that, wait for it.......Easily? Like not even struggling, ever. The only badge I see a problem getting is the healer badges lol. Standing around with Aid Other spamming it?
Brutes got it all, can tank, can smash, very versatile. Broken? Not today my friends.
thanks for all the replies
Fury changed since last time i played. cool ,... Brute still feel smash tastic so all is good
But is there any ways to get my own dmg buff over 300% ?besides Insp.
been toying with mids and just cant find a build that will give good dmg buff with out costing me in other areas
I do not know the exact numbers. My last main was a SS/Will build with lotsa recharge. Was all the time at Rage x2. My current monster is a Dark/Invul, about to be a recharge monster when I drop in the 5 purple sets waiting for when I 50. (plus another LOTG 7.5%, to augment the 4 already in it.) This brings up the Power up boost on Dark to be about constant. Do not know if this is 300%, but I kills lots lol.

versus
Soul Drain w/ 3 enemies = 64%
Soul Drain w/ 10 enemies = 120%
Fury = 150%
So, SS brute with double stacked rage and full fury = 310%
DM brute with a saturated soul drain and full fury = 270%
Add in saturated Shield Against All Odds:
SS/SD = 375%
DM/SD = 335%
Be well, people of CoH.
Thanks for the numbers Bill. I had a feeling the SS was doing more damage than the DM, but wasnt sure. Still my Dark/Invul feels more tanky than the SS/Will, that's what I wanted.
Actual gameplay will of course vary. I didn't include the 10 out of 70 seconds that a brute with double stacked rage puts out zero damage. (Not counting sands of mu and the staff/wand, of course.) And the pylon thread in the scrapper forum (yea, scrappers don't get SS, but some brutes have posted in there) has dm/sd on the top quite heavily.
Be well, people of CoH.

Soul Drain is easiest for me (another reason I prefer Dark Melee). The Power ups just don't last long enough for me. Rage has a crash, and that gets annoying. The solution for me was to go Dark, and go BIG. Ten or so billion invested does wonders for your recharge. (Course, I had to strip every other toon I got to make one Mega Brute, but welcome to non altitis lol.)

What I'd like to see.
Have the bar chopped at 85% or so, just so it looks "full" and people stop griping about it.
But when you activate something like Frenzy, you get a little animation of the Fury bar sliding left for a second (as if gathering itself), then blasting out the right-hand side into an explosion/throbber accompanied by the sound of something breaking/exploding.
This lets the player know their toon has finally gone over the top/lost his marbles/flipped out/etc (see "It goes to 11" or "Over NINE THOUSAAAAAAAND!").

ok so i'm in an AE Farm mish
you know the type , massive spawns set to +2/8 solo with tons of ambushes set in small area.
So here i am , Me (SS/inv Brute) against like 60+ claw/regen NPCs .
So i'm tanking with my nifty new IOs build solo against an army, buzz sawing foot stomp.
Fury bar will just NOT fill up.
I drop toggles for a few min and pop greens. taking massive amounts of dmg while dealing it out .
Fury still not filling
Rage stacked 3 times , dmg bonus around 250% - 300% Still fury not full... what gives ? I hit aggro cap and then some. i get hit as much as i'm hitting . nothing. as best i can tell i max out at 90% fury?
Basically this adds up to around -300ish HP off foes each hit from FootStomp and punch..
KOB of course breaks -1,000 HP or so .
so i do another test to see dmg cap
triple stack rage, pop 30+ small reds ( In AE vender)
dmg buff around 600% ....
So heres my question
How come fury will not max out .
I dont think Rage gives a buff after double stacking .
And how do i get my dmg cap ?
Is there a way to cap out dmg on a Rageless SS build ? Rage crash is kinda annoying
FYI first tiem playing this toon in around 4 years .
Good to be back
