lolnoob. Server question!
Hello all! I may as well be a noob, since I played CoH for about 3 months when it first came out, but didn't really do anything. I am using a trial account currently, just to test the waters, and have made my first two toons on Champion server. Before I get to far with them, or upgrade my account, is there any activity on it that anyone can speak of? I know there is a forum for it... but this forum seems much more active and apt to answer me, lol.
Thanks in advance! (I'm also wondering, cause the tides of noob that I feel when I log in are almost overwhelming, and could use a few people to bother while I'm figuring things out.) |

Well Champion is one of the lower populated servers. Though you shouldn't have trouble finding folks on any of them.
When looking at the server list it goes in order with
The last server you used at top
Then highest pop will be at bottom going up.
Freedom is #1 population wise
Virtue is #2 and the unofficial RP server
#3 jumps from Infinity and Justice and a few others.
As far as having someone to 'Bug' there is a thing called The Mentor Project. I'm not that familiar with it but a quick search should give you the links.
Otherwise, I'm on Infinity and Liberty atm, but I have a full server on Virtue as well. If you roll up on one of those shoot me a /Tell. We can run some missions together and help get you back in the swing of things.
I love answering questions and don't mind taking it slow.
Also, if you do upgrade your account send me your @Global address and I'll mail you a million or so to help with the learning curve!

Welcome back to the game.
Atlas Park and Mercy probably aren't as active as they used to be, namely due to the launch o' Going Rogue and people startin' there with the new tutorial and level 1-20 content. Considerin' you're on a trial account, you won't have access to Praetoria until next weekend and that's due to it bein' a Reactivation Weekend (7-10 Oct) with Going Rogue perks.
As for Champion server, welcome, I play there and it's about as active as any other medium population server. Not so much in the mornings, but afternoon to late evenin' there's solid player density. If you'd like an invite to some o' the various global channels for the server, I'm sure that can be arranged. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a tell @Cobalt Azurean and I'll do my best to either answer it or point you in the right direction.
Feel free to drop on down to our section o' the forums and I'm sure you'll have more than enough people offerin' to help.

Trial accounts have a LOT of limitations- you can thank the goldspammers for that- but you may have some luck if you put "Trial player, please invite to team!" or similar in your search field .
The way the servers are organized when you come into the game is this: The server you logged in on most recently is on top. The rest of the servers are in order of increasing population.
Freedom and Virtue each generally have about the same number of people, with all the other US servers being in a pack at about 1/3 to 1/5 that number. So the bottom 9 positions flip around a lot from moment to moment, but the top 2 are WAY ahead.
Freedom has a rep as a place full of idiots, which is not entirely undeserved. My theory is, because it's so large, idiots have no real incentive to change their behavior, and people who've been socially ejected from other servers may end up there as well. There are a lot of good people and good players on Freedom, and there are a lot of fools and losers on non-Freedom servers, but I think there's some truth to the reputation.
Virtue has a reputation as the place where Roleplayers go. The uncharitable stereotype i that those are people who say everything actually gamerelated ((in parentheses like this)) and spend a lot of time writing little soap operas together. I've never seen adult roleplay chat there but I'm told there's way, way, way too much of it. Roleplayers are, in many cases, happy to play the actual game and play it very well. They may just throw in a bunch of thees and miladies.
All the other servers have various reputations (Pinnacle is elitist game-hacking drunks, or whatever) and smaller communities.
Welcome back!

go freedom or virtue. all other servers are small time
Every server has a different population and approach to things. Get to know the forum-going ones on the forums, and make sure to join your server's chat channels so you can get a better handle on what teams are forming, etc. For this OP go to the Champion forums to find those, or contact Cobalt Azurean in game, as he suggested. I'm on those channels myself, as my spillover characters from Victory are there and I do play there fairly often.

*heh* i love how the posts i see by you tend to alternate between asking fairly basic questions about the game's workings and stating (frequently incomplete or inaccurate) opinions and assumptions as facts. It's sort of charming even if it occasionally gets annoying because then someone who know what they're talking about has to set the record straight.

Lol wow, thanks for the replies! Still not certain which one I'll jump to, but my wife is going to join me tonight on a trial account, just to mess around. Guess I'll just pick one of the servers mentioned here and try it for a bit. Justice is nice, yeah?
I've been playing on Champion for years. It is a great server with lots going on if you know where to look. I'd advise going to the Champion forums and checking out the events calendar, as well as joining one of our global chat channels. Teams/TFs/raids are generally organized through them.
Send a tell to @Cobalt Azurean for an invite to one of our main channels. Feel free to send me a tell as well @Amygdala if you need a hand.

*Actually, global channels formed for coordinating events server-wide requiring invites is a bit antiquated now since you can just set a channel to start everyone as silenced when they join. That allows anyone who wants to know what's going on to join regardless of whether a channel mod is online and trolls still can't easily cause disruptions.

Edit: Posts by Amygdala and myself both mentioned various global channels on the server, which would imply or infer others aside from BMT, just FYI.

And if that were the purpose o' BMT, this part o' your post might actually mean somethin'.

Should you feel the desire to play on Victory, which you should (wink, wink!), you can check out our channel lists in the welcome thread that is stickied at the top of our page. Champion is good too, though. I guess.
Victoryites tend to be sarcastic and self-deprecating... and deprecating of others, but it's in good fun. Know the power of Victory!
