Want the names too, because you must memorize every toon that ever kills you (and that would be a lot) because you always want people to post their toon names even though there is this cool feature call renames...
Gotta love the internet.

Yeah... gimme those names! lol please.

Hey you brought it up. "Omg I killed you in deh zone this one time ago!"

Btw... you actually remember killing my dom.... on not one but four toons? lol and you want me to believe that my dom gave you no reason to do so. Who are you trying to fool son? Yeah gimme those names.

Sad cause I don't even know who you are. I must be famous from the boards to you too?

"Situational power? Sure. Although in a sense... all powers are situational. It's just that some situations occur more than others." Understand the situation needed in order for the power to be most effective... and make that situation happen.

no but you are the only lol flying dom that tp's people to the zone ceiling cap, and forgive me if I mispell Misconscience wrong but it is something close. And yes I remember it well and on multiple occasions because it is usually something we laugh about on vent. How much you are "contributing" when you are dying.

Yeah you can argue all MMO games eveutnally boil down to a grind but at least in some games skill is factored in some times as well. COX is 100% grinding.
I lol'd when you made it sound like anything in WoW required skill.

Dark Armor is like that kid you knew in school that didn't know when to shut up, and no matter how bad he got beaten down, he got right back up again and kept on talking.

Not that I pvp at all, but to clarify, you are perfectly fine with the idea that not everyone gets to make kills, but you think PVP io's should be made available to everyone very easily?

Interesting.

1 Piece of Glad Jav set = 25-30 Hero Merits
1 Full set = 165 Merits
5 Pieces of Apoc = 100 Merits

Say you are looking at a Psi/EM 3 sets of glad javs + 1 set of apocs.

(3 x 165) + 100 = 595 hero merits to have your standard range offensive toon slotted out for PvP.

To be able to do that you'd also need 11.9 Billion influence (if you are converting normal merits) and run the Synapse TF around 600 times. Or you would need to do 6,545 tip missions.

You would need to do the Synapse TF every day for over a year and a half. (Synapse TF is 15 missions long though some are deliveries. Either way adds up to 9,000 missions)

You can only get 5 tips per day, taking you 2 days to earn a hero merit that way. Off tips alone you would need to do 5 missions 1 day, 6 the next and after 3 and a quarter years you'd have your blaster's main attacks PvPIO/Purpled out.

Awesome.
You are sMrt.

Indeed.....THIS is EXACTLY why gold farmers are so successful making money in this game. I have NEVER and will NEVER utilize the influence services or PL'ing services that have been spammed to our inboxes and in our broadcast channels.....but i certainly understand how a person could "justify" using one or "concede" to using one.

This type of "ridiculous" grinding, and YES it IS ridiculous....is exactly why I havent played since June of this year. It is exactly why I likely wont be renewing my account this year. It has effectively killed my will to build more alts. The efforts and knowledge of shortcuts needed to outfit a toon properly, for pvp, is simply more effort than reward for me now. I certainly have altitis. I certainly enjoy having this sickness. I love having the disease, relish in its symptoms.....but absolutely despise the medicines that are my fix.
The phat lewt.
Most of my toons, which were once 10 million dollar builds.....(lol?).....are now over 10 BILLION to achieve.

In fact, my altitis was so bad that I've actively deleted lvl 50 toons on freedom for years. I have deleted no less than 15 lvl 50 toons and COUNTLESS toons lvl 30-40'ish.
Toons under 30 you say? PFT, CHILD PLEASE! They get deleted on a whim.....
But now, the grinding and acquisition of the proper items for my pvp builds just takes up too much time where im not playing, but rather mindlessly(and bitterly i might add) grinding away towards my next shiny new piece.
I don't enjoy the PvE very much any more. I've been playing for over 5 years and I've pretty much worn down on that front.(THANK GOODNESS for PL'ing) The stories no longer distract me from the mechanical grind of PvE and I simply do not enjoy killing the mindless anymore. Very few things in this game give me a sense of accomplishment and excitement like PVP does. PvP has kept me here for at least 2 years longer than I'd have stayed without it being in this game. It's too bad so many people get butt-hurt about their toons being pwned and shy away from PvP. It's a LOT of fun if you don't care about your toon dieing now and again. It is simply part of the experience. Every hero/villain takes a beating once in a while, check any cartoon, comic, or movie. Seems many can't get past this aspect. Thats too bad...
Anyways....the drop rates are embarrassingly scarce and actually create a wider gap between your average players ability to compete with those of us who have the money to "generally" buy what we cant earn or arent willing to earn. I know I almost always have enough money on hand to buy any ONE toons gear, for the most part. But keeping my bank account that way is too much effort in the grind department. I mean lets be real here, paying for one or two shiny's has the ability to empty your entire bank account on a toon. ONE or TWO items! 2 freaking billion for an enhancement or two. Its laughable.
I mean lets be honest here....you'd quit life too if that were the case. In fact, during the great depression, many folks did quit life. This games lewt/money/drop system has become one, big, great depression, lol.
Why? With so many combos available, you could almost never satiate your alt-craving ways. Its nearly impossible. There is an infinite number of power combos. You could create one new alt per week and still not have tried them all in like 10 dam years.(guessing, because i was too lazy to do the math)
So why make it so difficult to enjoy the fruits of the labor that was creating this game and its choices? Why? makes no sense to me.

thought I'd necro this thread which cmae up in a random search at 3am (insmonia YAY!) to say that at the risk fo pissing people off I'm actually not a fan of PvP based loot in any game. At best its pointless, but shiny-looking. At worst, when its actually measurably much better than any alternative (as is the case with at least a few specific IOs here), it makes it that much harder,as people have noted, for new payers to join the PvP scene because their opponents, who ahve been playing longer, in addition to the benefit of that experience have better loot (IE even if they were equally skilled, whoever has been PvPing longest still has a clear advantage). becuase of this advantage the old-timer's win more, and keep the gap wider, longer. The more time goes by, and the more, better, rarer PvP loot is introduced into the game, the higher the barrier to entry becomes.

And this game has barriers high enough already (I don't hate I13 with the same passion as a lot of people who remember the old days, but its impossible to deny that having PvP answer to a completely different set of rules makes it essentially impossible for anyone to take up 'casually' unless they enjoy being farmed for kills/drops and mocked as a rewarding gaming experience).

Arguably you could see H/V merits as a way around that. It might takeyou half a decade of religiously dedicated play, but theoretically your character CAN be fully outfitted before actually beginning to compete. That time frame is so long however, that its actually more discouraging than encouraging. You look at how long it would take and part of you thinks 'screw this; back to PI!'. All it really does is allow PvM players to save up and afford the oneor two uniques and procs they may want for their PvM builds. Now, I suppose you coudl argue there's some good in that, couldn't you? Given how easy the market is to manipulate it can't be bad to ahve a way to get aroudn paying 2 billion influence for a Panacea proc. But it doesn't really help the PvP community.

At the end of the day, speaking as an admited 'amateur', so to speak, I think I kindof agree with Dharjee. Not about playing by Queensbury Rules becaus if you use effective tactics then you're being mean. I mean that PvP rewards will never succead in making PvEers get into PvP. they might make a nice bonus, but a lot of other things would have to change for that to even come into play (the reverse is not true, by the by, no matter what he thinks - i my experience, in any game, there are plenty of PvPers who step foot into PvE solely and exclusively when they find they must in order to earn loot which they will then use to PvP with).

At the end of the day, I don't think PvP needs better loot drops to be more popular. i think it needs to be more fun. Or at least, more accessible.
