Where dose Kinetic melee shine?
Mostly around the hands.
FWIW, I've been loving my kin/nin stalker.
Just from what I read it seems KM will shine in ST DPS. You'll be the guy picking out the biggest, meanest, baddest muthereffer and knocking him silly. For that, a Scrapper or Brute would do ya.
I would lean more towards a Scrapper than a Brute. Kinetic Melee relies on significant +dam buffs, which are more effective on Scrappers due to their higher base damage.

I'v been looking through the brute/scrapper/stalker pages, and can't really find anything. I wan't a Km/ and will probably go WP or Regain an secondary. I was just wondering which if any had an advantage with this set up. I was leaning more towards Scrapper or Brute. I just like the play style more then stalker.
What i want out of the character: I like to team and solo, but more for teaming. Also I'm not going to try and be a full time tank, mostly looking for damage and someone able to help a team. |
You say not a full time tank, and you like damage...scrapper sounds the best!
Build for the best damage, build to be survivable, then since you said "not be a full time tank" grab confront (maybe when i19 arrives), so you can keep all that AV attention on you (the only thing a Scrapper may ever want to tank for their team imo...on regular missions, you just try to kill everything for them).
Personally, I went KIN/WP Stalker. But I thats because I want Reconstruction over RTTC.

KM/Elec Stalker here, and it's been a balst, but yeah. You sound like you want a Scrapper - you get Power Siphon in its full glory, the insta-recharge procs in CS, and fantastic ST damage with Burst for teams. And, of course, you can take either Willpower for great overall survivability with a minimum of clickiness, or Regen if you'd rather have your survivability on tap.
Agreed all around. KM shines with single-target-focused Scrappers. I like KM/Shield (more damage, extra AOE), KM/Elec (more recharge, extra AOE), and KM/SR (more recharge, easy softcap). KM/WP should be very good, too (more recovery, no weaknesses). Not as fond of clicky secondaries with KM, though, because they can interrupt KM's buff-stacking.
PVP
scrapper t9 attack does like 400 damage unbuffed, its only scrappers though.
'Aye, go with a Kin/WP Scrapper. As I understand but am unable to explain, Power Siphon works better on Scrappers than Brutes and Fury.
Now I did go with a Kin/Energy Aura Brute purely for the visual, and while I've gotten invested in the character thematically, I'm not crazy about the performance in the low 20's.

I just hit lvl 50 on my Kin/Energy Aura Brute...he is a lil squishey...but that bein said I like the ST damage and yeah I went for the look mostly with this set and its been fun

I enjoy my Kin/Dark Stalker a lot so far. Thanks to current Burst... bug or not.
Stalker doesn't have the range aoe knockback that some seem to hate.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
My level 42 km/wp brute is so slow and boring to play I would have deleted it long ago, but, since, a brute is the only AT I have not leveled, I am stubbornly sticking with it. As noted, it is a single target damage set. I have leveled 2 tanks with Energy Melee, one before the grand nerf/fix, Fire/EM, one after, a DA/EM. Despite that tanks supposedly do less damage than brutes, I think I could level another tank with EM faster. Maybe its because I solo a lot, and, getting/keeping the fury bar at high levels can be an issue, has something to do with it. If you just want to have some fun, and, not be the lead tank, aggro getter, make a Super Strength, if nothing else, at least, foot stomp is a knock down, not a %50 chance to knock down, that seems to miss a lot more than half.
yea, KM in pvp does about 1.1k damage slotted with procs. its pretty amazingly broken right now and won't get fixed.
Positron's i13 letter: We are trying to make PvP more accessible to new players, while giving experienced PvP'ers the advantage that comes with formulating tactics around the new systems we're putting in place. PvP from now on will be on our priority list. If something isn't working out, we'll be in there tweaking it and making it work, for the entire future of the product, not just Issue 13.

Then yeah, Concentrated Strike should do the most ST damage in one hit on Scrapper minus critical.

The only new toon I have created since GR went live is a KM/Energy Aura Brute also for the same reasons.
Did you have many end issues in the teens with it or no?
Seems to me it sucks more end than most other melee toons I have ever used.... but I wasn't sure.
I created mine for the same reason(s) you did also. (The "look") LOL

Oh... CS's damage is bugged in pvp right now or in pve as well? My Stalker has CS and its damage seems to be the same as Total Focus. I thought PvP formula puts more emphasis on activation time? TF has 3.3s and CS has 2.8 something? I assume TF has better damage than CS but I don't pvp in this game... what do I know. lol

One thing to consider. Yes, KM shines in ST damage, but when PS is up and you have a damage aura, you can get some pretty nasty numbers that will chew up a large chunk of health on just about any non-boss critter out there. I often find that once I pop PS on my KM/Elec scrapper, all I need to do is Burst at the end and all the minions are dead and the LTs only have a sliver of health.
So, I think KM shines with damage auras as well as ST damage. Just a thought.

Big hitter? Consentrated Strike! Check!
Range attack without redraw? Focused Burst! Check!
Great Single Target DPS? Check!
Build Up that I want to use? Consentrated Strike instantly recharges BU on Crits! Check!
Personally, I love the set!

I went Stalker, with Willpower as the secondary. I'm enjoying it so far. I'm planning on trying the other version with a brute, as the stalker set is a bit different. I think I'm going super reflexes for the secondary on the brute. Conceptually it fits the best for me.

I haven't tried the Brute version of KM (I just don't like the AT's play-style), but I do have a Stalker, a Tank and a Scrapper. All three are WP secondary... Of them, I think the Stalker has it best.
Siphon is interesting from a mechanical standpoint, but I really prefer the plain old BU Stalkers get, and the attack they lose to shoe-horn Placate into the set isn't much of a loss.
